Controversial painter Rasta the Artist rarely gets any applause from South Africans for his paintings. However, Rasta is currently basking in warranted applause, following an excellent portrait of deceased legendary actor Patrick Shai.

Rasta, real name Lebani Sirenje, has become notorious for his paintings of prominent deceased people, mainly South Africans, as his paintings somehow never seem to resemble their subjects at all. They usually seem to be caricatures of the deceased. This has led to speculation that Rasta does this deliberately to attract attention.

However, Rasta’s painting of the late Patrick Shai is being applauded for doing an excellent job in paying tribute to the late veteran actor. Patrick Shai allegedly committed suicide in the garage at his house in Dobsonville, Soweto, over the weekend.

Below are some of the responses from South Africans impressed with Rasta’s painting of Patrick Shai:

Patrick Shai’s wife reveals what killed her husband

Today the 27th of January 2022, was the late veteran actor Patrick Shai’s memorial service. He passed away on the 22nd of January at 66 at his home in Dobsonville. Patrick shockingly committed suicide, leaving his fans with so many questions. He was doing well in his career, with a wife and children; nobody could think of a reason why he’d take his own life.

Some people speculated and came up with their conclusions. Others blamed the rapper Cassper Nyovest and his fan base after they had a bit of controversy.

As we all know, the actor was an anti-gender-based violence activist. He sat with numerous people with different backgrounds who shared their emotional stories. Patrick Shai‘s wife, Masechaba Shai revealed to the memorial service attendees that; her late husband passed away due to emotional heaviness.

Time after time, his heart became heavier and heavier with not knowing how to cope with this. Hearing tragic stories can never be easy for anyone, especially someone who is not a trained professional. It got so bad for Shai that he could no longer take it, so he let go of it all. He didn’t want to leave the people he was counselling hanging and walking away, so he left in a way that he could never go back in.

His colleagues for his acting craft and anti-gender-based violence spoke of his passion and diligence. He was called a fantastic thinker with a fire for making his characters come alive. His wife called him an amazing husband; without shying away from his abusive history, she spoke highly of the man he later became towards her. As a husband and a father, the one thing that stood out about him was his overwhelming love for his family.

His funeral will be held on the 29th of January, 2022. His family is currently discreet about the time and venue.

‘I went to the mountains to prove I’m a man’, #BBMzansi’s Sis Tamara shares shocking life story

The life story of Ukhotembalethu Samela, popularly known as Sis Tamara, on Big Brother Mzansi Season 3 has people feeling sorry for him as he faced problems in his life. He talked to his housemates about his life during the first day in the house.

Sis Tamara felt moved to perform the traditional annual event in the Eastern Cape to prove he was a man. Reports indicate an average of 20,000 boys aged from 15 to 17 go to the initiation school in the mountains in the Eastern Cape.

The practise is deeply rooted in the South African culture and is believed to be the point where a boy graduates into a man. Families celebrate the boys’ homecoming, who usually spend up to a month in the mountains. What happens there remains a secret and never disclosed to women or authorities.

However, things may go wrong. Unregistered initiation schools are mushrooming, posing a risk to the lives and health of mostly Xhosa and Ndebele boys. Around 400 boys have died at initiation schools due to poor medical care.

Sis Tamara felt compelled to attend the initiation school because of his sexuality. He succumbed to the pressure from his family and the community to prove he was indeed a man.

He, however, did not have the best time away from home; his peers often ridiculed him for being weak. Some thought there was o need for him to waste his time in the mountains as he was not a real man.

Living in Johannesburg
The 25-year-old had to live in his home in Johannesburg in search of a more accommodating environment. “I did not want to be seen as a burden. My mother asked me to be who I am in Johannesburg but be a different person back home,” Ukhotembalethu Samela said.

His family rejected him and questioned the way he dressed. He was also abused by people who hated him when he was high.

“I feel I have to do more to prove I’m a man, and I think I’m doing that,” he said, leaving fellow Big Brother Mzansi housemates in tears.

A couple of housemates have already made their mark according to viewers of Big Brother Mzansi. Season three of Big Brother Mzansi has become a huge hit with South Africans as the show is trending on Twitter daily.

Viewers of the hit reality show missed the shower hours, the drama between the housemates and housemates falling for each other.

Mzansi was surprised last Wednesday when housemate QV exited the reality show because she wanted a safe space to talk to a therapist about her unresolved issues.

“The longer I am here, there is a [bigger] need for me to address it quickly”,

Here are the viewers’ fan favourites housemates so far:

Nale
24-year-old Pretorian model, Naledi Mogadime, aka Nale describes herself as a calm and zen “fine gyal, not a sad gyal”.

She is DJ and actress Thuli Phongolo’s favourite housemate after she tweeted about her and commended her class, sass and substance.

Themba
30-year-old Joburg tattoo artist, Themba Karabo Mabaso aka Lil Wayne is a fan favourite on Twitter and has been trending since the show started.

Big Brother Mzansi viewers are drawn to his authenticity and no-filters strategy.

Viewers are also attracted to him because he’s an enigma and often isolates himself from others.

Fans are also protective over him when the housemates “talk down” on him based on his accent when he speaks English.

Mpho
27-year-old Michelle Dimpho Mvundla, aka Mphowabadimo, is a sangoma from Daveyton.

She describes herself as outgoing, kind and no-nonsense person.

Viewers are divided between her and Nale, who were already at loggerheads this week.

Fans are also predicting some romance between her and her Big Brother Mzansi housemate Libo.

Viewers love her personality and are looking forward to some romance between the pair who have been spending a lot of time together.

Prince Kaybee shocked by size of Cassper Nyovest’s 4-5

It is no secret that Cassper Nyovest and Prince Kaybee don’t like each other. They have been beefing for quite some time and now it has reached ridiculous lengths; pardon the pun.

Cassper has been baying for the music producer’s blood for a long time. He has challenged him to a boxing match multiple times, but Kaybee has never responded. In fact, it has been so long that we began to think that Kaybee was above it all. But as it turns out he too can play petty, and it’s sending us howling in stitches.

Cass recently shared a video of himself jogging with two guys. It was a moment to inspire others to keep fit and to further threaten Naak MusiQ ahead of their match set to take place in April. But a fan took a screenshot of Cassper in the video and reposted it on their social media.

Considering how much beef they have we can only guess that Cassper and Kaybee have blocked each other on social media. Which is probably why the only avenue available for Kaybee to shade the rapper was the fan’s comments section.

He commented, “For someone that keeps on talking about marete this is shocking ?”. Of course, the comment immediately caught the attention of fans from both sides of the divide. A screenshot of the comment went viral on social media as Cass was shaded.

Now Cass has responded, calling Kaybee a btch with no blls. He has doubled down on his invitation to fight, but he is sure that there is no way in hell that the producer would ever accept the challenge, because he simply cannot man up.

Celebrity friendships are a good thing to see but there is something about Pearl Thusi‘s friendship with Emtee – we just can’t put our finger on it. One thing we do know, is that they care deeply for one another and are not afraid to show it.

This is why Emtee is a Gentleman – Pearl Thusi

Pearl Thusi scored herself a date with Twitter’s most famous serial dater, Michael Bucwa, AKA Mr. SMEG. But fans expressed concern over Emtee saying he made a whole hit song about Pearl Thusi, named Pearl Thusi and even featured Pearl herself, but all he got was a shoutout and a friendship, not even a date.

Now, we know the fan was trolling because they added that the Manando hitmaker did not even get a hand shake.

This is why Emtee is a Gentleman – Pearl Thusi

“Once upon a time someone even realise a song called “Pearl Thusi” but didn’t even get a date, not even a hand shake, oww poor @emteerecords,” said the tweep.

Pearl Thusi however defended Emtee, like they always defend each other, and narrated a time when Emtee was the ultimate gentleman to her.

She said Emtee invited her to a plane after she attended a gig and also made sure that she got home safely. She said this was so gentleman like of him.

Our Very Own Themba And Venus Dubbed “Tyga And Rihanna” Might Be Finding Something Bigger Than The Sweet Harmony.

With the Wager Task growing closer and the stakes being high, Themba and Venus have paired up to find a sweet harmony to their music, but is a sweet harmony all that these two will be finding? For now, we can only wonder!

Even though it’s subtle, there’s definitely chemistry between the two and one can’t ignore it. It must go beyond the singing that they do together because they seem to have much in common. The two of them are aligned in the way they think of the game. Venus has stated that she would rather observe and see how things play out in the House. Over here we would deem that as strategy play. As we are all aware, even the fans are convinced that the two are the underdogs and have displayed much talent in the show so far in!

Let’s take a look at Gash1 and Thato. Although at first it may have looked like Gash1’s ultimate ship goal was QV, he has now moved on to Thato. He has found small moments in the house to reach out to her. This was made evident by his much-noticed hand around her waist on the couch as the Housemates were busy with the task that Biggie had assigned them. Who’s fooling who here?

We can’t go without noticing the crush that Libo has on Naledi and the way he tries by all means to approach her. We wonder how far this will go since the HOH-Tulz may have his own eyes on her.

Amanda Manku (Lizzy) from Skeem Saam details her horrific near-death experience

Skeem Saam actress and sportscaster Amanda Manku is one person who appreciates the gift of life, following her horrific near-death experience last year. Amanda plays the role of Dr Elizabeth “Lizzy” Thobagale on the popular SABC1 educational soapie.

Lizzy’s family was hit hard by a nasty bout of Covid-19. Although she ultimately survived the respiratory disease, the Skeem Saam actress was hit hard by Covid-19 and feared the worst. At the worst of it, she had difficulty breathing and supporting herself, and she had to walk around holding onto furniture.

Amanda later managed to pull through and beat the disease. This made her appreciate the gift of life more. Narrating her near-death experience on her 30th birthday, Amanda said,

“I didn’t want to celebrate my birthday this year. There’s nothing worth celebrating… However, 2/3 weeks before my birthday, my siblings and I tested positive for Covid-19, we all had different symptoms, and some had it easier than others … Almost 30 year old me had it hard.

“I was really struggling, so when I finally became Covid-19 free and could leave the house, but most importantly could breathe, walk around without holding onto anything, and my feet weren’t swelling anymore… I realized the importance of celebrating life.”

To make matters worse for the actress, her mother and grandmother both succumbed to the disease and had to be buried at the same time, a few months earlier. At the time, she lamented,

“One thing my mother always told me is to stop posting about my problems, but right now, it’s hard. I want to vent! I want to understand! How can I lose my mother and grandmother at the same time? Who will I go to for comfort? For advice? God answer me.”

However, the Skeem Saam “Lizzy” actress remains undefeated by the near-death experience and is determined to make full use of the gift of life.
