EFF’s Floyd Shivambu out to get whoever fired Robert Marawa

Floyd Shivambu, who is a leader for the EFF says that he wants to know who’s responsible for the sacking of Robert Marawa at the SABC. After the ending of his show MSW (Marawa Sport Worldwide), which he presented on Metro FM and Radio 2000 on Fridays, the broadcaster parted ties with the sports presenter. “Who is this cabal in SABC Sport Live and the SABC which continuously mutilates the broadcaster’s capacity to attract and keep as many listeners and viewers as possible?” said Shivambu on social media.

Marawa posted a WhatsApp text message where he interacted with SABC acting station manager Kina Nhlengethwa in which he was told not to come back to work for his final programme with them. While many followers were shocked by the announcement, Shivambu pushed Marawa to name the cabal. “You, Robert Marawa, understand the space and broadcasting craft and many people appreciate it. Name the cabal, we’ll act,” said the EFF deputy president. The public broadcaster has sacked Marawa for the second time after the two parted ways in 2017. Nhlengethwa advised Marawa not to report for duty and that his last show had been cancelled in a text message, which he shared on Twitter.

Singer Zahara has dismissed pregnancy reports that emerged at the weekend claiming that the Loliwe hitmaker is expecting a baby and is newly engaged.

Speaking to a local publication on Sunday, the singer denied the claims, saying that if she was pregnant then people would know.

“Who went to the public and said I’m pregnant? Guys if I’m pregnant then you will see me. I’m defending myself, I’m not pregnant now, but even if I was pregnant you would see because the stomach was going to grow,” she said.

The songstress said she did not know what sparked the rumours and wanted to rather focus her energy on her album which she’ll be releasing on August 13.

However, she did not specifically address the talk about her having a new man or engagement speculation in her comments.

Ahead of her album launch, Zahara released a new single called Nqaba Yam last Friday.

“I was supposed to have released my album on July 9, but when I release an album I must be able to go out there. I want to market my album, I need to see my people,” she said.

“I don’t do singles I just release an album, but just because of this Covid-19 thing. I always feel like if you want to hear my story, I should just drop an album. So Nyamezela is out and the views are already looking good she added.

What Khuli Chana bought DJ Lamiez Holworthy on their first date

Mzansi’s DJ Lamiez Holworthy has opened up about when she first started dating now-husband Khuli Chana, and the TL is nostalgic for those first-date vibes!

Lamiez shared the scoop in response to a tweep who asked if people would go on a date with someone for a second time if they didn’t buy them a present for the first date.

The DJ said she didn’t know about these first date presents until she met Khulani all those years back.

She revealed that she received a bunch of yellow tulips, a Mickey Mouse teddy bear and a difficult-to-find book she had mentioned once in conversation.

“Honestly didn’t know that gifts on 1st dates were a thing til I met my guy. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize denies home maintenance claims

Under-fire Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has told the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) he never requested Digital Vibes to pay for maintenance to his private home.

And Ndabezinhle Sibiya, a former spokesperson for Mkhize, has denied having any links to a firm that allegedly scored millions in an irregular contract from the Department of Health.
Sibiya was named in court papers filed by the SIU at the Special Tribunal as having “potential” links to Sotobe Media, which received R9.78m from Digital Vibes. The SIU is seeking to recover the irregular R150 million the National Department of Health paid to Digital Vibes.

A newspaper reported that at least 20 companies and people, including Sotobe Media, received payments of R90m from Digital Vibes for having done no work. The SIU claimed this was a possible money laundering scheme.

Sibiya said in a statement on Sunday: “I know no company by the name of Sotobe Media or any of its directors. I have never met them. And I have never phoned any of the directors since I was born years ago.
Those who have dragged my name into the mud will face consequences. I will take them to the cleaners.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize denies home maintenance claims

“As a hard-working and dedicated public servant, I do not own Sotobe Media, nor (am I) involved in any private companies, directly and indirectly. My declaration of interests is public record.’’

Mkhize is seemingly trying to offer up his messenger – also with the surname Mkhize, who allegedly stole from him – as a sacrificial lamb, informing the SIU he never asked Digital Vibes to pay for maintenance to his private home. This is contained in court papers the SIU filed at the Special Tribunal.

Mkhize claimed the messenger had stolen the money for maintenance services provided by his housekeeper and had subsequently approached a Digital Vibes executive to pay for them.

Mkhize said the messenger approached Naadhira Mitha, a close associate of his, to pay the money for the services, which she then did. Evidence, however, showed Digital Vibes paid the money. The Health minister has been placed on special leave.

Last week, the SIU referred evidence relating to Mkhize and his son’s involvement in the tender to the National Prosecuting Authority.

DJ Tira in hot soup

DJ Tira in hot soup

DJ Tira in hot soup

DJ Tira clearly forgot that Uncle Cyril said no grooving. DJ Tira has found himself in some hot coronavirus-infected water after posting a thank-you post that showed him hosting a lit groove.

After posting a thank-you post to his fellow groovers, Tira quickly realised that it might not have been the smartest move and deleted it.

Unluckily for Tira, the people of Mzansi were one step ahead and screenshots of his post are now everywhere. Seeing the number of people wearing no masks in such a confined space gave social media users anxiety. The general consensus is that its because of carelessness like this that people are dying, losing their jobs and why we are still in lockdown.

Toyota SA Executive Chair Dr Johan van Zyl’s death a great loss for KZN

Toyota SA Executive Chair Dr Johan van Zyl’s death a great loss for KZN

Tributes continue to pour in for Toyota SA’s executive chairperson, Dr Johan van Zyl, who has been hailed as one of the “most formidable business minds” in the country.

The 63-year-old Van Zyl died on Friday, July 30, of Covid-19-related complications at a hospital in Pretoria. His death has been described as a great loss to KwaZulu-Natal.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala described Van Zyl as “one of the most formidable business minds that the country has ever produced”.

Zikalala said Van Zyl was an accomplished business leader who held various leadership roles at Toyota and also served as a board member of Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN).

He said Van Zyl’s death was a huge blow to the people of KZN, as he had contributed immensely to the economic development of the province.

“Dr Van Zyl worked tirelessly to support the efforts of the country to market the automotive sector in KZN and South Africa globally. A giant of the business world has fallen. Dr Van Zyl supported government programmes for the transformation of our economy and the building of a prosperous South Africa. KZN benefited immensely from his wisdom and servant leadership which built Toyota South Africa into a global player with firm roots in KZN,” said Zikalala.

Van Zyl served two stints as a non-executive director on the board of TIKZN from 2006 to 2009, while the second was from June 2012 to November 2017. During his time on the TIKZN board, he helped to shape the province’s investment strategy, focusing on the manufacturing sector, specifically on localization.

Zikalala said Van Zyl’s “wisdom and inspiration” would be missed as the country tries to rebuild the economy following Covid-19 and the civil unrest.

Van Zyl was elected president of the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) for two terms from 2005 to 2008 and again in 2013 for a two-year term.

“Dr Van Zyl was an influential leader, not only in the automotive industry, but also in the country when he and a few other business leaders established the PPGI [Public Private Growth Initiative], which brought together social partners to work much closer in resolving some of the country’s biggest socio-economic challenges,” said Naamsa chief executive Mikel Mabasa.

Economist Professor Bonke Dumisa said Van Zyl’s business acumen and positive role in positioning South Africa as an African economic powerhouse must be acknowledged and applauded.

Dumisa recalled a working lunch with Van Zyl in Prospecton in Durban.

“That one-day working lunch with Dr Johan Van Zyl long ago will always remain in my mind. It demonstrated to us that there are many South Africans of all races who are committed to building a successful South African economy. May the soul of this true South African patriot rest in peace,” he said.

Mzwanele Manyi posted on Twitter that Van Zyl was a very good man.

“I worked with him at Toyota SA for many years, and we maintained the relationship even whilst I was in government and thereafter. A solid individual who enabled my career in Toyota. Strength to his family,” said Manyi.

Khandani Msibi also posted on Twitter: “Johan was an incredible leader, witty and a great sense of humour …”
