Politician Mmusi Maimane Takes A Jab At Actress Natasha Thahane

TV actress Natasha Thahane landed herself in trouble a couple of months ago when she revealed that she received a whopping R1 million from the government, to further her studies abroad.

The actress was a guest on Podcast and Chill With Mac when she let it slip that she reached out to politician Baleka Mbete, to assist her get R1-million from the Department of Arts and Culture to further her studies..

This is after being accepted into the New York Film Academy. “I went to maam Baleka Mbete, who was still the Chairperson of Parliament then, I’m like “Mama, I need to go and study,” she said.

“She [ Baleka Mbete] managed to speak to Arts and Culture and then they gave me funding”.

Natasha quickly topped the Twitter trends list and felt the wrath of Twitter users who dragged her for apparently using her family’s influence to secure the meaty funding from the government.

What angered Twitter was that she is the granddaughter of the late Arch-Bishop Desmond Tutu. In a tweet that has since been deleted by popular Twitter user Cellular, who has revealed on several occasions that he has a crush on Natasha. Mmusi Maimane took a jab at Natasha.

“You are living in an ANC nightmare Cellular. We all are. Unfortunately unlike Natasha your buddy not everyone can just make a call and get R1 million to solve their problems. Youth unemployment is over 75%. Corruption is the daily bread of this government,” he tweeted.

Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa revealed that Natasha made a request to study abroad directly from him.

“What we know is that Ms Thahane made a request for financial support towards her studies at the New York Film Academy directly to me as the minister,” he said.

“This request is similar to many others my office and the department constantly receives from members of the public. The public does this possibly because I am the political head of the department,” said Mthethwa.

Natasha later backtracked her statement and denied having received R1 million from Mbete or the Department of Arts and Culture.

I did not receive R1 million from Baleka Mbethe or the department of Arts and culture. If you receive to the interview you would realize that I was taken out of context and before I even go through the process I would profusely like to apologize to Baleka Mbethe and the department of sports and art and culture because when I watch back and listen to the interview it sounds like I have a personal relationship with mam Baleka which is not a case,” she said.

She said her first and last encounter with Baleka Mbete occurred after she was coming out of a meeting. She sought advice from her after being accepted to study at the NYFA.

” She advised me to explore the department of arts and culture because they have funding opportunities and that was the first and last conversation. She did not make any calls on my behalf,” she said. According to her, she obtained R350 000 from the department, and the rest was provided by her family.

Mmusi Maimane Has taken to his Twitter to respond to DJ Shimza’s tweet about his helper.

The DJ has been all over social media after he indicated that he was out of clean socks and was in desperate need to have them washed as he calls on his helper.

Tweeps started slamming him for making his helper do his dirty jobs.

Mmusi called the Shimza to order by advising him not forget Ubuntu just because he is now in a position of privilege.

Not hesitating to reprimand him on his statement, Maimane advised the DJ to wash the socks himself.

His tweet reads: “Spin those socks and drawers with your hands and soap. We must not forget our ubuntu as we occupy positions of privilege and proximity to power. That’s mid. Not class. We all know how to wash our own clothes. How to clean our own rooms. That is how we were raised.”

Reacting to this, Shimza also clapped back at the politician saying: “Akere wena le ntatao la utlwana (Of course you and your father get along).”

Mmusi Maimane calls on govt to clarify 1 million Natasha Thahane funding

One SA Movement leader Mmusi Maimane has called on sports, arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa to clear the air on claims his department allegedly funded actress Natasha Thahane’s studies abroad, which amounted to more than R1m.

In an interview on MacG’s Podcast & Chill, the granddaughter of Desmond Tutu said in 2017 she “made a call” to politician Baleka Mbete seeking funds after being accepted to study at the New York Film Academy.

Natasha alleged Mbete reached out to the department of arts to arrange money that went towards her studies after her funding application went unanswered.

In a lengthy post on social media, Mmusi said a “conversation with the nation” was needed about Natasha’s academic funding.

“Funding for education must come through the proper channels and must be allocated according to need. Our government is not doing enough for students and this must change,” he said.

“Education is one of the main ways to get families out of economic adversity and on a path to wealth building. We need to make sure our limited funds are used in the best way possible to maximise the nation’s return on investment and to address national skills needs.”

Mmusi said the matter should be used to highlight the pressing challenges affecting many students in the higher education system, and both Natasha and the sport, arts and culture minister owe the public an explanation.

“I hope you can have a conversation with the nation about this academic funding. How much it was, how it was processed and your reflections on your personal use of networks to access state support. I think you do owe the public that much, Natasha,” he said.

“Mr condolences Nathi Mthethwa, we also need clarity from your office about the disbursement of these funds.”

Attempts to get comments from the department were unsuccessful at the time of writing this article. Any update will be included once received.

In her defense, Natasha took to Twitter to share a screenshot of emails she sent to the department that allegedly went unanswered before Baleka intervened.

“I applied for funding. No-one responded until the school assisted me to get in contact with the department. I even emailed Barack Obama’s Foundation hoping I’d get assistance,” she wrote.

The movement is backing the candidates.

One South Africa Movement leader – Mmusi Maimane says South Africans need to consider voting for an independent candidate in the upcoming elections.

Maimane says independent candidates are part of the community they come from.

He says South Africa doesn’t need any more political parties.

Maimane said, “all of us know that all of the big parties come into the state and capture it and deploy their people into those parties.”

“The council and bureaucracies are factionalized. When you ask for people who are independent then they are not part of any faction, they are part of the community.”

“We’ve set up an independent association so that if you have a problem and lose confidence from the community and are able to remove you. That’s the infrastructure we want to build. Ultimately you cannot say power to the people, then in the same vein if you’ve got a problem then you say consult the party.”

South African politician and former leader of the opposition party Democratic Alliance Mmusi Maimane exchange blows with ANC sympathizer DJ Shimza ( real name Ashley Raphala)

South Africa woke up to the news that the ruling party African National Congress built R15 million Lesseyton stadium in Enoch Mgijima Local municipality in Eastern Cape. Opposition party leaders and South African received the news with a pinch of salt and trashed the ruling party for public funds abuse, and corruption for a merely R2million worth stadium.

EFF Vice President Floyd Shivambu laid the fighting battleground by calling South Africans to vote out ANC for constructing a substandard R15million stadium.

An ANC Municipality in the Eastern Cape, Enoch Mgijima, has opened what they call a stadium… R15 MILLION was paid to build this thing & they are proud of it. The people of South Africa must vote these people out of power because they have no shame. None whatsoever! R15m for this?

At first, Dj Shimza looked astonished by the stadium, and Mmunsi Maimane insinuated that even Dj Shimza couldn’t spin these turntables.

Realizing that he is about to bite the mouth that feeds him, Shimza backtracked and started to justify R15 spending on a visibly low-cost stadium. He suggested that after consultations with engineers, the R15million cost is justified on the stadium.

This one aikhona, I’m seeing a lot of engineers and people who work in construction saying it’s possible, but people must account for clarity.

-Shimza

Mmusi Maimane responded with information on why Shimza has softened his blow and claims that the stadium construction was overpriced from his experience in projects.

I understand why you have to soften the blow. From my experience, this project did not come close to R15 million.

– Mmusi Maimane

A determined Shimza continued to drag Mmusi into the argument and asked for his academic qualification and that he shouldn’t discredit educated engineers to settle political scores.

The outspoken politician implied that Shimza is in a romantic relationship with the ANC government. He threw the sucker punch when he compared his Masters in Economics qualifications to Shimza’s Dj competitions.

Message your bae. Send flowers. No one forced you to enter this chat. I have a masters in Economics; while you were entering DJ competitions, I worked in a public office. I know what I am talking about. Bottom line, the project did not cost R15 million. There is no spin room.

-Mmusi Maimane

Shimza tried to recover from Mmusi’ blow, but that was the end of him. He boasted that he owns six successful businesses that he can never be fired from, with Mmusi who was fired from the Democratic Alliance political party.
Mmusi Maimane went straight into Dj Shimza’s bedroom and revealed that Shimza was about to get “fired” by his girlfriend.

Mmusi put the final nail of the coffin when it revealed that Shimza aspires to government tenders. The government hosted an event at Shimza’s Hang Awt Restaurant in Tembisa dubbed Ministerial cook-off with Somizi.

Mmusi Maimane is currently trending on Twitter for clapping back at trolls dragging him over Drake new album. Drake dropped his latest album, ‘Certified Lover Boy’ and it was worth the wait as many of his fans have been anticipating the release of the album all week.

The album created more anticipation following Kanye West’s Donda album which dropped earlier in the week.

Well, with the look of things, it’s safe to say that Drake has won the battle as his project has been trending in South Africa.

However, former DA leader Mmusi Maimane has also joined in the craze on twitter, having posted a quote from the Jay Z assisted track Love All.

The line refers to people asking about an old situation and someone trying to destroy him of which we can only presume he is talking about his blow out with the Democratic Alliance party (DA).

“When they ask me about the old situation” he wrote.

Social media users have since been shocked that Mmusi knowns Drake, let alone listening to his music. Trolls have also been throwing jab at the politician, insinuating that he is to old to be mixed up in stuff like this.

Mmusi Maimane slammed for begging the world's richest man Elon Musk to donate money to South Africa
Musk, a former Pretoria Boys High school pupil, this week surpassed Amazon’s Jeff Bezos after a surge in the Tesla share price.

His net worth is now more than $188.5bn (about R2.9-trillion), $1.5bn more than Bezos’s, Bloomberg reported.

After being besieged by tongue-in-cheek requests for loans and handouts on Twitter, Musk tweeted that he might be in the market for some social responsibility projects, saying “critical feedback is always super appreciated, as well as ways to donate money that really make a difference (way harder than it seems)”.

Maimane, never one to let an opportunity pass, replied with: “Hi Elon where can South Africans with disruptive ideas about fixing the country make proposals. I for one have some ideas about how to fix the education sector in this country outside of the clutches of a corrupt government and I would love to present something to you.”

But not everyone responded positively to Maimane’s tweet. MandaKinghorn responded: “Gaan bedel by die robot. Elon is NIKS verskuldig aan SA nie!” the robot, Elon owes NOTHING to SA).

Speaking to Sunday Times yesterday Maimane said he had reached out to Musk because education in SA needs to be reformed.

He said he had also drafted a letter to Musk, asking him to assist in building “blended education” in SA.

“People like Elon Musk have shown innovation in the world … we are asking him to say ‘let’s create innovative industries for the future’.”

The former DA leader said artificial intelligence and coding were the future and people like Musk could help SA keep pace.

“We need that innovative sense, we need that education plan and we need that intervention in terms of taking our education and making sure our kids are on a digital platform,” said Maimane.

Musk, who has 41-million Twitter followers, has received hundreds of suggestions about good causes to support, from dog rescue organisations to “highimpact” charities.

Bloomberg said Musk’s personal wealth was boosted by a more than eightfold surge in the Tesla share price last year. Tesla became the world’s most valuable carmaker.
