TV boss Shona Ferguson was described as a dreamer, innovator and a creator at his memorial service today, 6 August.

It was held in Joburg as friends, family and colleagues gathered to bid farewell to him one last time.

The proceedings of the memorial services were led by actor Sello Maake ka Ncube, who said Shona’s passing cut him deep and that his impact would echo for decades.

Shona’s daughter, Alicia Ferguson, paid tribute to him in a song that was pre-recorded for him while he was in hospital.

“These pieces of a song connect me so much to my dad and he will love them together. I love you so much dad,” she said, while a video of her playing the piano appeared on the screen.

Shona’s childhood friend, Thato “DJ Fresh” Sikwane recalled their childhood days and how they would they would ride around on their bikes in Gaborone, Botswana.
While actress Gail Mabalane, who starred on Ferguson Films’ drama series Rockville, said she’s heartbroken.

She recalled the first day she met the TV boss and how he inspired her career.

“He was someone that I wanted to emulate in certain aspects of my life and filming the last season of Rockville was one of the most refreshing experiences as I got to work with Shona one last time. I used to watch him a lot on set as I would learn a lot from him,” she said.

While actress Tsholofelo Matshaba said Shona was her hero and his passing was a blow to the film and TV industry.

She also recalled the first day they met and how he had not changed.

“His laughter would be the one that would let us know that he has arrived. His laughter was very infectious, and he laughed the loudest. It is something that you don’t see every day with bosses because they are strict,” she said.

She also she was grateful that Shona was able to put Tswana on the global stage.

Other people who delivered touching tributes to the late star include Zandile Msutwana, who starred alongside Shona in The Queen and Enhle Mbali, who played his wife in Rockville.

The memorial service was also attended by TV giant Mfundi Vundla, MEC Mbali Hlophe and Nomsa Philiso.

South African singer and actress Kelly Khumalo is known for telling it as it is. This time she complained about the nurses not revealing all the effects one should expect after receiving the Covid-19 jab. This all comes after she posted a video as Barbra lashes whereby she uses a Russian accent and says her mind out. Kelly Khumalo openly tells her fans that since receiving her jab last week she can’t feel her privates.

The singer complains that she was only told that she will only experience a minor headache but to her surprise she cannot not feel anything down there. Her followers are shocked but appreciate the truth. In fact many other people also comment to her post saying they experienced the same thing or are experiencing it. On the other hand those who have not been vaccinated yet are shocked and scared. Here are some of the comments from the public concerning this issue about the vaccine and the private organs:

“??????I thought I was the only one”

“She is in quarantine…She isolating from her full purposes…oh my sweet????”

“U not feeling anything under??? bathong Kelly”

The Covid-19 vaccine is still an issue many are debating about all over the world. Some places that have had their populations vaccinated seem to be better off and things have gone back to normal. However, that is not the case in South Africa as the government is pushing for numbers to get vaccinated so as to control the deaths and spread of the virus.

Some people do not want the vaccine and think that the vaccine will weaken their immune systems which will eventually lead to their early deaths. Many theories are being spread on the Internet and it the actual motives behind these are unknown.

She shared snaps taken at the funeral, where the star was seen wearing a leather jacket, a skirt, stockings, boots and black head-to-toe.

However, one user took to Twitter to criticise the star’s skirt, saying it was “too short” for a funeral and Ntando should have worn something more “fitting of a lady”.

Not taking the criticism lying down, Ntando said it wasn’t the day for anyone to come for her. She also asked the tweep if they aren’t tired of always finding something to pick on.

Somizi fired from Idols SA

Somizi fired from Idols SA

Media personality Somizi Mhlongo has been let go from his judging post on Idols.

In a released statement, Mnet said that they have met with Somizi to discuss his role on Idols following the allegations that have been made against him by his estranged husband Mohale Motaung.

“We have reached a mutual agreement that Mr. Mhlongo will take some time off to deal with his personal circumstances until this matter has been resolved”

Mnet said that viewers will still see Somizi on their screens until Sunday, 22 August as the auditions shows are pre-recorded.

Naturally this has gotten people talking and asking some questions that many people are truly asking themselves. These were some of the reactions:

“I haven’t been following this whole this whole story, but what I want to find out, so after he deals with his personal issues will he be reinstated? Judging that he not released or fired. Do you have any idea?”

In response to this question, entertainment commentator Phil Mphela said,

That’s a valid question. It is unlikely that he will return to the show. Should the show have another season, the broadcaster will want to avoid attention being taken from the show and be about him”

“If he is innocent he should sue the publication that published an interview, without his side of the story. And also sue his ex for deformation and loss of income”

“The cancel culture must be revisited and inspected adequately. A mere allegation should not cost anyone their bread, especially during the time when people would do anything for clout”

“Eish. I never like to see this happening to anyone. in law we were always taught “the only thing we have is our names, you lose that you are finished”

“Gigs are now drying up for Somizi after being everywhere in the past few years….it’s all come down to this. Of course it’s still an allegation but it will dent his image and most importantly his pocket”

“People are hypocrites sies!! Now that the allegations are about their favorite, “it’s sad”. If it was a woman being abused it was gonna be a different story nxa!”

“It’s SAD how easy it is to destroy a person in SA, you cry ABUSE without any sort of evidence a person is destroyed and haters celebrate. cause its black culture to celebrate ones down fall. #SALOYWA THINA BANTU QHA!”

Somizi took to Instagram to share his side of the story and clear his name from the allegations levelled against him by his husband:

He said, “Our relationship has its ups and downs but I have NEVER been physically or knowingly emotionally abusive towards my estranged husband. I vehemently deny the allegations of criminal acts towards him and would like to clear my name of that defamation.

What I am going to state however is that we had one altercation in which I had to defend myself and both of use were physically hurt by the other. I am at this stage not at liberty to dive deeper into the details but can state that he is not a victim in this situation”

Vulnerability, honesty, and break-ups are the theme of Amanda Black’s next album, titled Mnyama, she has now found her voice again and says she can never be silenced.

“I can’t wait for people to hear this side of me because it’s gentle, it speaks of a time where I was vulnerable and allowing myself to be honest,” she said.

Following her Album Power from 2019, Amanda says that it represented her going through a battle and now, with this with album, she’s reflecting on it.

“You don’t talk about how you become OK and how you went through it, and this is what this album is about … I ignored my emotional, psychological because I was in the battle … and I neglected me.”

A week before the president announced the 21-day lockdown in March last year, Amanda went through a tough break-up after a three-year romantic relationship and decided to travel back home to contemplate.

“I went through a break-up, and all my plans were in the trash. I kind of just shut down and I remember that there were so many things happening all at once … I went through a mental block for two-to-three months, and I was at home … it made me reconnect with myself.

“Going through the break-up within the lockdown, I was actually seeing what had actually happened, I had time to think about it and ask myself questions. I couldn’t really run away from myself any more, there was nothing to distract me … Even being home, it reminded me of myself.”

The singer admits that having some time away to introspect had her lamenting and interrogating her feelings about her past.

“All the other things like my battle with my previous record label, everything that I never dealt with, even in my personal life while growing up … and I’m still in the process of making those real,” she says.

“I remember I was not able to express to people in the house that I don’t feel like getting up from bed, and not being able to give that a name, I just went through this darkness that I couldn’t explain.”

Now that she has found her voice again, Amanda says she’s not bothered by Twitter critics saying she should refrain from engaging in politics and stick to making music.

“I feel that with this journey and just relating to the album … I felt an awakening, I think I reminded myself of who I am … ever since I started waking up understanding my blackness and my place in the world … It started then opening my voice again. It shows on social media now.

“I’ve realised my need to talk, I’ve realised my power to talk. I only attributed it to the music for a while and allowed people to tell me that it’s only in the music. Now, as I am unfolding, I’m finding my voice to speak for people who can’t speak for themselves, to speak out about things that are affecting me. I am black and I am a citizen in SA, that on its own is something to speak out on … It’s because right now I have found me again, I found my voice again and I am here to use it,” she concluded.

Diep City actress Nozuko Ncayiyane Ntshangase get messed up, attempts suicide multiple times

Diep City actress Nozuko Ncayiyane Ntshangase opened up about her industry struggles in an interview with Actor Spaces.

Unlike most actresses who either studied Drama or attended AFDA, Nozuko did not receive any formal training to be an actress. Speaking to Actor Spaces, Nozuko said, “I am not formally trained, I am informally trained through community theatre. I just told a friend of mine that I want to do this thing that we do in Arts and Culture class. Then she told me about a group that I can join. It taught me discipline. It taught me the beauty of creating and it taught me to create honestly and be myself.”

Nozuko said she was taught how to act through community theatre, “It is an informal set up but it needs to be recognised because there is so much training and it has produced stars. I literally went from community theatre to doing shows with Edmund Mhlongo and Jerry Pooe”

It took a while for Nozuko to study something other than acting and she says this was her mom’s idea after she lost her job and feared that Nozuko may not realise any of her dreams. She went to the University of Kwazulu Natal to study education. However things were hectic back home because her mom could not afford to pay for her residence and academic fees, “I was studying but I owed everything. I think I was even squatting at res at the time”.

“I think I was 23. I finished matric around 2010 and I only went to the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN) around 2014, this meant I was 4 years out of school, performing around, working with the playhouse and doing shows around Durban. I was away from home at that time”.

And then as fate would have it, “when I auditioned for Skeem Saam in November 2013, I auditioned for the role of Enhle, which my friend got. In the new year, I went to UKZN then Skeem Saam called me after 7 months and I had to answer my true call”.

When Nozuko got to Joburg, she would send most of her salary to her mom back home and she says this was not a good idea. She soon fell into the depression hole.

“Financially, I did not understand a lot of things. Intellectually, there were still a lot of things I needed to learn around that. I messed up a lot financially, I made really bad decisions. I felt like everything that I learnt in high school was not a part of this”

Nozuki is now working through her depression and is doing much better. “Right now I have learnt that it is a part of me and I cannot fight it anymore. At that time, I found Johannesburg to be very fast and I was acting and I didn’t understand what to do in the industry and it was about what the industry expects you to do and I felt like I did not fit into this industry. I did not want to do what everyone was doing in the industry. I did not want to attend those events.

My friend would try to drag me out of the room to attend those events but it just pushed me into a dark whole of depression. I felt like I was not doing enough and I felt like I did not have direction or know what I was doing. So emotionally I got messed up and tried suicide a couple of times, I was not ready for Johannesburg, I didn’t know what Johannesburg was going to give me but I wanted to come here. It was worth it though.”

Mampintsha’s mum warns her son and Babes Wodumo of a curse

Mampintsha’s mum warns her son and Babes Wodumo of a curse

T looks like the drama between Mampintsha, his wife and mum is far from over.

After the Uthando Lodumo reality stars announced they’d be releasing a song titled Sponge Wodumo, Mampintsha’s mum Zama Gumede warned them against it.

She said if they continued to make fun of her, they were asking for a curse.

“The Bible says respect your father and your mother so that you will live longer. Clearly, they don’t know that verse in the Bible. They mustn’t make fun of me based on what I’ve said. These kids don’t know how life is. They are only living in a moment. It’s sad,” said Zama.

Mampintsha, whose real is Mandla Maphumulo and Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane, have been calling themselves abazali baSpontshi (Sponge’s parents) after Mampintsha’s mum accused Babes of faking her pregnancy by putting sponges on her stomach.

The two gqom stars took to social media to announce their newborn son had released SpongeBob-inspired hoodies.

Zama said they mustn’t drag their son into their disrespectful tendencies.

“The baby knows nothing. He’s innocent and it’s unfortunate that his parents are dragging him into this. What kind of parents are they? In fact, have they given the child a proper name?” asked Zama.

After the baby was born, she claimed she heard the news from strangers and not her son.

In June, she told Daily Sun that after the video where she lashed out at Babes went viral, her son neglected her.

Babes’ sister and manager Nondumiso Simelane said she had decided not to comment on anything said by Zama.

“No, ay’. I don’t want to say anything,” said Nondumiso.

Mampintsha said the song was meant to celebrate the birth of their son.

“We meant no disrespect to anyone, my mother in particular. Sponge Wodumo is a nice title for the song. A curse? I don’t know what to say about it,” he said.
