Senzo Meyiwa’s brother says arrested suspects are innocent

Senzo Meyiwa’s brother has revealed that the arrested suspects for the murder of former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper have nothing to do with the crime.

Sifiso told the media on Monday 25 October.

However, the five suspects appeared in court for the alleged killing of the former professional goalkeeper.

While the court decided on an extended trial day, the late victim’s brother has claimed the cops have the wrong suspects.

The five men were handcuffed after the former footballer was gunned down in October 2014 while visiting his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, Gauteng.

“We were on the same page with the Minister [Bheki Cele] on who commited the killing. He previously agreed that these suspects have nothing to do with the murder. All of a sudden he is saying it’s someone else,” Sifiso Meyiwa said.

Sifiso has made damning allegations against embattled police commissioner Khehla Sitole on his involvement in the case.

He says five men accused of killing Meyiwa are being framed by the team brought in by the police commissioner.

The matter has been postponed to 11 April 2022.

It’s good to learn that there is now progress in murder case of Mzansi star Senzo as date for his trial is set so we can see the culprits.

Senzo Meyiwa’s trial will begin in April next year.

It was set a day before the seventh anniversary of the Bafana Bafana captain’s death.

Five suspects appeared at the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Monday.

They were arrested in October 2020.

A sixth suspect, an alleged KZN hitman, has also been linked to the 2014 murder.

Slain Bafana Bafana Captain, Senzo Meyiwa, still lives in the hearts of many South African’s. This is why the fact that his case has still not been concluded, breaks many of his fan’s hearts. The recent developments though point out that there is some progress being made by the justice system – and it is only a matter of time.

According to several reports, Fisokuhle Ntuli, a hired hitman has carried out several hits before and Senzo Meyiwa was one of them. The guilty verdict was made on Monday at the Esikhaleni Regional Court in Richards Bay. This according to Eyewitness News.

Ntuli is allegedly charged with six counts of murder, one for attempted murder and another four counts for the usage of an unlicensed firearm.

This hitman’s killing spree has now ended, but still Senzo Meyiwa’s fans and family still demand answers. He will be sentenced later this year.

On social media fans are still adding their two cent opinions after this news was made public knowledge.

Senzo Meyiwa was dating the mother of his child Kelly Khumalo when he met his untimely demise. Many fingers have been pointing at Kelly’s direction but the singer has always gone above and beyond to defend herself. A few months back, documents were leaked which implied that Kelly was also under the NPA’s radar and had been trying to access her cellphone records.

Through her lawyer’s Kelly said she is not a suspect, “Our client notes the recent developments of which at this sad time allowed her the opportunity to remain private in the best interest of herself and children especially that of the daughter she has with Mr. Meyiwa.”

“We wish to place it on record that our client is not implicated nor charged in this matter and is therefore not a suspect,” the statement concluded.

The last time Kelly spoke about Senzo Meyiwa was on her reality show Life With Kelly Khumalo. She spoke about how he betrayed her by not mentioning that he was married when they dated. Together they made beautiful Thingo who is 7-years-old.

Kelly spoke about how she found out that Senzo was married when she was 3 months into her pregnancy with Thingo, her second born.

This hurt her so much that she ended up lacking trust not only with their relationship, but with human beings in general. Kelly does not trust a single soul and it’s all because of her past experiences.

“The biggest thing is I don’t have trust. I just don’t trust human beings period. Because I’ve gone through this with my late boyfriend where I was lied to and I only found out that this man was married when I was 3 months into my pregnancy,” she said.

She had also spoken about her past relationship with presenter Jub Jub saying she is tired of reaching him, “I’ve tried and when Christian gets older he will know. I mean his old enough to remember that I did mention certain things with him because I was trying to make an effort for him to have a father in his life. I am washing my hands. I have had enough. This whole father thing is an issue. Christian’s father is not making an effort. My father is also not making an effort,” added Kelly. “Also with my dad. Everything is fizzled out. And, I’m at the point where I’m like – it’s right now. I don’t care anymore.”

Kelly Khumalo‘s reality show is probably one of the most trendiest shows on TV right now. You cannot watch Life With Kelly Khumalo and not look at her through a different lens. The songstress’s work ethic and how she balances being a mom, friend and career woman, makes you want to stan.

In this week’s episode, Kelly Khumalo spoke about her relationship with the father of her second child, the late Senzo Meyiwa. The late football star had a baby with Kelly and her name is Thingo who is a beautiful 7-year-old.

The love they both shared got cut short because of his untimely death. But with Kelly’s recent revelation, it seems as though she did not trust him one bit. Kelly spoke about how she found out that Senzo was married when she was 3 months into her pregnancy.

This hurt her so much that she ended up lacking trust not only with their relationship, but with human beings in general. Kelly does not trust a single soul and it’s all because of her past experiences.

In the second season of her reality show, Kelly’s sister is still nowhere to be seen. Speaking to TrueLove, Kelly told the publication that she has completely wiped out Zandile from her past, present and future. Zandie does not exist and never will.

“I’ve moved on from that part of my life. It no longer exists and never will,” she said.

She also opened up about her ex boyfriend and baby daddy Jub Jub on the show as well. Wanda asked her about their relationship and Kelly said she washes her hands off him. “Nobody called me back and I also stopped trying.”

“I’ve tried and when Christian gets older he will know.

Fresh allegations of police brutality and misconduct overshadow longstanding case of the murder of footballing hero.

Seven police officers allegedly kidnapped and assaulted three female complainants in what has been referred to as a desperate scheme to boost the chances of a successful prosecution in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case. The unidentified officers, who were wearing plain clothes, are accused of unlawfully using force and intimidation to try to revive an old criminal case against one of the five men arrested for the 2014 killing of the Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

The murder trial is due to start on October 25.

According to individuals with knowledge of the case, the officers came looking for Ntombenhle Ndaba, who once dated Muzikawukhalelwa Sibiya, one of the suspects. In 2017, Sibiya allegedly shot Ndaba in a fit of rage, but she survived.

Both families subsequently resolved the matter through mediation by local leaders at the Basuthwini Hostel in Vosloorus, and criminal charges were never laid.

We have learnt that following Sibiya and others’ arrest for Meyiwa’s murder last October, police then learnt about the shooting incident and pursued an attempted murder case without Ndaba’s knowledge and consent as the alleged victim.

Ndaba was allegedly in hiding because she refused to become a witness in the attempted murder case.

On the night of May 19, the officers, escorted by two Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officers in unmarked vehicles, came looking for Ndaba and did not find her. They allegedly accused Ndaba’s three cousins of hiding her, and the dispute led to the kidnapping and assault case opened last week at Vosloorus Police Station.

The three female complainants aged between 28 and 37 – whose names cannot be published for their safety – alleged that they were taken against their will from their home in Vosloorus and driven to a dark place with water near Pretoria, where their faces were covered with plastic bags and they were assaulted. The metro officers had left long before the incident.

According to the docket, the complainants could faintly hear the names “Mogole” and “TK” when the assailants were talking among themselves, Celebgossip has has learnt.

They were allegedly speaking Zulu, but the complainants could also hear either Pedi- or Sotho-speakers.

The complainants were allegedly held the by the seven police officers from about 10pm and were dropped off back home at about 5am the following day.

The kidnapping and assault case has deepened speculation that police do not have a strong case against the five suspects who were arrested last year for Meyiwa’s murder, and that the real culprits are still free.

Sibiya was arrested alongside Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli in October.

Individuals with intimate information about the Meyiwa investigation suggested that the pursuing of Sibiya’s 2017attempted murder case was possibly a ploy to force him to confess to being involved in Meyiwa’s killing, which all five suspects have denied.

Meyiwa was gunned down on October 26 2014 at the family home of musician Kelly Khumalo, who was his girlfriend, in Vosloorus.

The police only made arrests six years later, after what had been an embarrassing public relations nightmare for the authorities.

Public frustration was further fuelled by the stalling of the case, despite the fact that there were several people in the house who witnessed the murder of the footballer.

Late last year, Sibiya appeared before court for the shooting incident. He also had another attempted murder charge against him, though the details of this are sketchy.

On Wednesday, he appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on charges of drug dealing. The case was postponed to June 11.

On Friday, SA Police Service (SAPS) national spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo confirmed that a case of kidnapping and assault had been opened at Vosloorus Police Station. “We cannot confirm at this stage who the assailants are, but this matter is being investigated,” Naidoo said.

“With regards to the 2017case in which Ndaba was the victim, it has been on the court roll since last year,” he said.

On Friday, EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato referred queries over what she knew as the “kidnapping case” to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

Her Johannesburg counterpart, Wayne Minnaar, said it was doubtful that his officers would breach jurisdiction provisions, adding that police vehicles have trackers that send an alert when a vehicle has been driven outside of its jurisdiction.

Yesterday, Minnaar said there was no evidence linking his officers to the Vosloorus case, while Makgato said “the allegations could not be verified internally” on their side.

Last November, we reported that the “crack team” appointed by and reporting to Police Minister Bheki Cele to investigate Meyiwa’s murder was torn apart by bitter rivalries and allegations of back-stabbing, with two of the investigators accused of kidnapping and assaulting a key witness.

A member of the team was involved in laying criminal charges against his two colleagues – a colonel in the SAPS and a warrant officer in the Hawks – in February last year at Bhekithemba Police Station in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal.

Police insiders said that the accused had differences with their other two colleagues in terms of the line of investigation. They rejected the theory that Meyiwa was murdered during a robbery that went wrong and instead pursued an angle that the witnesses who were present at the murder scene were not entirely honest.

Questions sent to Cele’s office seeking comment this week went unanswered.

The upcoming album is set to be released by the end of May.

A spokesman for the Meyiwa family, Sfiso, said they were not aware of the upcoming album.

“I’ve just learned of this album and their gesture is welcomed.

“I’ve also learned that the artists involved will visit the family. We also appreciate this because it will give us a chance to discuss our share in the album,” said Sfiso.

“I say this because the album will be generating some income from sales. For that reason we’re also expecting a financial share from this album.”

The manager for Sthembile “Glama” Nyoka, Dr Maz Zulu said:

“It is only fair that his family gets a share from this project. I can guarantee the Meyiwas that once we meet we shall reach a reasonable agreement.”

The Senzo Meyiwa album is a collaboration of three maskandi artists including Glama, Mbuzeni Mkhize and Potso Ngobese.

Glama told Daily Sun they have not contacted the Meyiwa family.

“Our plan is to visit the Meyiwa family before the album is out,” she said.

“Our visit will be solely to show gratitude to his family for giving us Senzo, so we titled it Senzo Meyiwa. In my view this will ensure his legacy lives on.”

Glama revealed she had a crush on Senzo.

Mbuzeni said: “It has always been my dream to work with Glama but I never thought we’d collaborate on something as huge as this. Senzo was a huge brand, and to be associated with his name means a lot to me.”

Potso said: “I have no doubt this is going to be a killer album. I’m glad to be part of this and I’m looking forward to meeting the family of this legend.”

Senzo Meyiwa murder mastermind still out there, says Gerrie Nel

The five suspects linked to the murder of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa will start their trial in October 15, but AfriForum’s private prosecution unit is disappointed that the mastermind behind the killing is still not arrested.

AfriForum’s private prosecutor Gerrie Nel said he didn’t understand why the mastermind behind the killing has still not been arrested and prosecuted.

AfriForum represents the Meyiwa Family in the case against Muzikawulahlelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokosizi Maphisa and Sifosokuhle Ntuli, who are allegedly involved in the footballer’s murder.

The five men appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Their case was transferred to the high court and postponed until October 25 for trial.

They are facing five charges, including murder, attempted murder and robbery.

Meyiwa was shot and killed at his girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus, east of Joburg.

According to court documents, Meyiwa was killed in the presence of Khumalo, her mother Gladness, sister Zandi and her boyfriend Longwe Twala, and friends Tumelo Madlala and Mthokozisi Thwala, who were all in the dining room.

Journalists from Independent Media were not allowed in court on Friday and were told it was per Covid-19 protocols while those from TV and other media were in court.

On Friday Nel, speaking outside court to the media, said he did not understand why the case was described as a robbery that went wrong.

“We are very disappointed because the matter is now being transferred on an indictment, and it’s a robbery that went wrong. It is a contractual killing.

“What’s interesting is that I have consulted my clients and they informed me that in October last year the minister of police visited the family and indicated that there is indeed a mastermind.

“He also identified the mastermind.

“But from October last year until now they haven’t taken action, which is very surprising.

“I have also spoken to the police and they feel very strongly that they have a strong enough case.

“So it’s very peculiar that we haven’t seen somebody added to the indictment,” Nel said.

In a letter written to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on March 3, ahead of the court appearance, Nel accused the authority of being reluctant to charge the alleged mastermind.

“The inept handling of this matter has been dealt with in our previous letters and to avoid any repetition, will not repeat same now, safe to say that the unrelenting disinclination to deal with the ‘elephant in the room’, namely the arrest and institution of a prosecution of the mastermind, who allegedly contracted the assassins in this matter, before the the next court appearance will prejudice the case and enhance society’s perception of law enforcement’s ability to deal with a matter of this complexity,” says the letter.

Nel told the NPA that the indictment did not allow them to conclude that Meyiwa was killed in the execution of a contractual assassination.

“Further to our recent briefing, we have been told of new evidence collated since the last postponement and powerlessly experienced the investigating team’s exasperation with the reluctance of the NPA to charge and join the outstanding suspect.

“At the previous court appearance, we publicly stated that there was enough evidence to convince any reasonable prosecutor to prosecute the outstanding suspect and having heard the latest investigative developments, I feel even more confident of our assertions.

“The impasse coupled with what we consider to be the irrational failure to charge the mastermind has created further strain on our client and the family,” Nel said.

He said the issuing of an indictment and transfer of a matter to the high court for a trial was based on an apocryphal fact which would further deteriorate society’s trust in the prosecution and criminal justice system.

“We implore the NPA to clearly state their position.

“Is this the current indictment, inclusive of the killing of the deceased as a result of a struggle where a shot went off, the case that will be presented to the court, or are the prosecutors contemplating (on the current evidently material in the docket) adding more accused and then to file a new indictment?

“If so, when can that be expected?

“More importantly, we beg the question ’why has it not happened?’”

Nel said they were confronted with a perception that the mastermind might be sheltered from prosecution.

“The current unwillingness of the prosecutor to charge him/her exacerbates this perception.”

NPA spokesperson Sipho Ngwema said National Director of Public Prosecutions advocate Shamila Batohi will respond to the letter.

“Suffice to say, the prosecutor has gone through the docket with a fine tooth comb and believes that there’s insufficient evidence to add another accused on the matter.

“We need evidence that will substantiate the current suspicions because what is in the docket is not sufficient,” said Ngwema.

“The prosecutors will not take decisions based on perceived pressure from interest groups.

“We are led by evidence and for now we need more to be able to add other accused persons.

“If the gaps we see now are closed, the prosecutor will certainly consider charges against more persons,” Ngwema said.

Outside the court on Friday was football supporter Goolam Mohamed, who also lambasted the justice system for failing to bring the matter to its conclusion seven years later.

“This has destroyed us.

“These people have committed such a hideous crime.

“He was a man who took sport as a career and wanted to see South Africa growing into a better community.

“He wanted to bring more into his team.

“This has affected everyone in this country.

“Our tax money is being used to pay prosecutors and judges, even the investigators but they are not working”, he said.

The five men accused of killing Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa are back in court on Friday. They were arrested in October last year in connection with the 2014 killing.

Meyiwa was gunned down in Vosloorus at the house of his girlfriend’s mother.

Advocate Gerrie Nel, Head of AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit, said he is disappointed that further arrests have not been made.

“I really expected the mastermind to be arrested by today. In October last year, we indicated we thought there’s enough evidence to arrest the mastermind, even then.

The family of later Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, has been left with so many unanswered questions. This after his tombstone was vandalised. News that Senzo’s tombstone has been vandalized started hogging social media yesterday midday.

His brother, Sfiso Meyiwa told Daily Sun that he received the news on Saturday morning.

“I received a call from one of the Ethekwini Municipality officials that my brother’s tombstone has been vandalized. But at that time he was not sure. Later on, the official called to confirm that Senzo’s tombstone has been destroyed. At the moment we don’t know whether this is an act of witchcraft, or if it’s Senzo’s killers are trying to intimidate us or just evil and jealous people. Either way we are shocked and left with so many unanswered questions,” said Sfiso.

He said that they have not opened a case. “We are still confused as to what to do next but at the momet we haven’t opened a case but that is our intention. Otherwise, we have informed all the relevant people and we are getting some legal advice as to what to do next,” said Sfiso.

Chairperson of South African Football Association in KwaZulu-Natal, Kwenza Ngwenya, said the act of vandalizing Senzo’s tombstone is barbaric and a shame to the country.

He said that they are trying to understand the motive behind this. “We are aware of this but nobody knows who did it, how it happened or when it was vandalized. We all got the news on Saturday morning. As KZN SAFA we’ve been to the cemetery and we saw the damage, nothing was taken but it’s completely destroyed. We have also informed the President of SAFA, Danny Jordaan, the KZN MEC for Sports and Culture, Hlengiwe Mavimbela and all the stakeholders,” said Ngwenya.

“What confuses us more is the fact that, the Mayville Heroes Acre cemetery, where Senzo is buried has security guards and we don’t understand how this happened. For now we cannot say we shall reinstate the tombstone or not but we can assure the family that we will not sit back and fold our arms. However we have advised them to open a case,” said Kwenza.

Senzo’s tombstone was erected and unveiled last month. The unveiling took place in Durban. It was attended by Bafana squad including Danny and other football officials, family and friends.

At that time, Kwenza had told Daily Sun that “the cost of Senzo’s tombstone was about R80 000…”

The arrests were made on 26 October, which was six years to the day since Meyiwa was shot and killed at the Vosloorus home of his girlfriend, actress and musician Kelly Khumalo.

The five men accused of being involved in the murder of former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Muikawukhulelwa S’Tembu Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Sifokuhle Sifiso Nkani Ntuli face five counts, which include murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, the contravention of Section 3 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 (possession of firearm) and contravention of Section 90 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 (possession of ammunition).

They first appeared in court last month after Police Minister Bheki Cele announced a breakthrough in the protracted cold case.

The arrests were made on 26 October, which was six years to the day since Meyiwa was shot and killed at the Vosloorus home of his girlfriend, actress and musician Kelly Khumalo.

According to court documents, it is believed that, while Meyiwa was at Khumalo’s home on the day, at around 20:00, two people barged in with a firearm and a knife, and demanded money and cellphones from the victims.

At the time of the incident, also present were Khumalo’s mother, Gladness, Longwe Thwala, who was Zandile Khumalo’s boyfriend, Meyiwa’s friend, Tumelo Madlala, as well as Mthokozisi Thwala.

A scuffle ensued and Meyiwa was shot in the chest.

He was declared dead on arrival at Botshelong healthcare facility.

The five accused’s first appearance before magistrate Hans Havenga was quite an occasion when four – Sibiya, Mncube, Maphisa and Ntuli – appeared without any legal representation, saying they saw no need for a lawyer because they knew nothing about the case.

The men, who are currently serving time for other crimes, maintained they were wrongfully implicated.

According to the indictment, they are from KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and North West.

The matter was postponed to Friday for the State to submit a final submission for the matter to be moved to the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

A leaked document during the last appearance also revealed that the cellphone records of Kelly Khumalo may be obtained as part of the investigation.

The document had formed part of communication among investigating officers and stated that cellphone communication between the various accused before, during or after the crime must be established along with tower locations.

Khumalo’s lawyer, Magdalene Moonsamy, said she had not been formally charged or implicated in the matter.

“We wish to place it on record that our client is not implicated nor charged in this matter and is, therefore, not a suspect,” the lawyer said in a statement.

Moonsamy said they had noted the leaked document and that it was done with malicious intent.
