Marawa had also been linked to Durban Gen lead actress, Nelisiwe Sibiya, as well as Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) star Nonku Williams.

“@robertmarawa is in France for the rugby and all of the sudden Thando is seen in Paris ?” said one X user.

Robert Marawa’s Mercedes-Benz AMG on the line over R1 million debt

Mzansi sportscaster Robert Marawa might lose his Mercedes-Benz AMG as a financial service provider is reportedly after him after he reportedly failed to make a balloon payment of more than R1 million.

The award-winning sports personality Robert Marawa has allegedly been taken to the Pretoria High Court after failing to pay the balloon payment of more than R1 million to his Mercedes-Benz.

According to City Press, Mercedez-Bens was granted a court order to cancel the agreement and repossess the car in August.

It is believed the dealership was also granted permission to apply for an order to obtain any outstanding balances on the loan following the resale of the car.

Marawa allegedly missed a payment of the balloon amount in December 2021 and asked to refinance his balloon payment, according to court papers.

The publication adds that court papers denied Marawa’s request to refinance the balloon payment.

It is believed Marawa received the car on 29 November 2018 and that the car’s initial price tag was R1 431 304 when it was delivered.

“He paid R28 982 in monthly instalments for 36 months and was left with a once-off balloon payment which was due on 1 December last year”.

According to City Press, Mercedes-Benz financial services informed the sports personality about his arrears in writing, approached the court in February to cancel the sale agreement, applied for the car to be repossessed, and requested he pays the cost of the court application.

The court documents reads:

“An order authorising the plaintiff [Mercedes-Benz financial services] to apply to the court on the same papers, supplemented insofar as may be necessary for judgment in respect of any damages and further expenses incurred by the plaintiff in the repossession of the said vehicle, which amount can only be determined once the vehicle has been repossessed by plaintiff and has been sold.”

Marawa’s argument read:

“The defendant denies that the above honourable court has jurisdiction to adjudicate this matter and puts the plaintiff to proof. The defendant denies material breach of the loan agreement and puts the plaintiff to proof thereof.”

Marawa was unavailable for comment at the time of publishing this article.

A financial service provider is gunning for top sportscaster Robert Marawa’s Mercedes-Benz AMG after he failed to make a balloon payment amounting to more than R1 million.

Marawa, who is currently the ambassador for luxury car dealer Lexus SA, has been taken to the Pretoria High Court for failing to pay R1 097 986 to Mercedes-Benz’s in-house financial services.

The dealership was granted a court order to cancel the agreement and repossess the car in August. It was also granted permission to apply for an order to obtain any outstanding balances on the loan following the resale of the car.

According to court documents filed by the dealership, Marawa had missed a payment of the balloon amount last December.

Marawa was still in possession of the car and asked Mercedes-Benz to refinance his balloon payment.

According to the court papers, the bank denied Marawa’s request, saying he was not entitled to call for the refinance of the balloon payment and was going against his contractual obligations.

The swanky ride, with an initial price tag of R1 431 304, was delivered to Marawa on November 29 2018.

“He paid R28 982 in monthly instalments for 36 months and was left with a once-off balloon payment which was due on December 1 last year.”

Mercedes-Benz financial services claims to have informed the award-winning sports show host of his arrears in writing and only approached the court in February to cancel the sale agreement, after he allegedly failed to pay.

The dealership also applied for the car to be repossessed from Marawa and requested that he pay the cost of the court application.

The dealership’s court document also requested “an order authorising the plaintiff [Mercedes-Benz financial services] to apply to the court on the same papers, supplemented insofar as may be necessary for judgment in respect of any damages and further expenses incurred by the plaintiff in the repossession of the said vehicle, which amount can only be determined once the vehicle has been repossessed by plaintiff and has been sold.”

In effect, this would make Robert Marawa liable for any shortfalls on the loan repayment following its resale.

In a response sent through his lawyers, Ramabulana Attorneys, Marawa denied that he had breached the agreement and challenged the authority of the court.

Marawa’s argument read: “The defendant denies that the above honourable court has jurisdiction to adjudicate this matter and puts the plaintiff to proof. The defendant denies material breach of the loan agreement and puts plaintiff to proof thereof.”

The dealer responded by stating that Marawa’s denials were vague. It insisted that he was contractually bound to make the balloon payment and was not entitled to refinancing.

“The defendant [Marawa] further loses sight of the fact that the plaintiff elected to terminate the agreement, and therefore the balloon payment cannot automatically be refinanced at the sole election and request of the defendant. The defendant fails to plead any basis for why it should receive or expect such entitlement,” read Mercedes-Benz financial services court papers.

Marawa, who on Friday was on tour promoting his new book, Gqimm Shelele: The Robert Marawa Story, was unavailable for comment.

Robert Marawa opens up on who got him fired 3 times at SABC & SuperSport

Mzansi’s celebrated sportscaster Robert Marawa has opened up about a “cabal” that he claims was behind his silencing from his shows at the SABC and SuperSport.

Marawa was fired from his show on Metro FM in July 2017. He was fired once again from another show on SuperSport in 2019, and then history repeated itself when he was fired from his groundbreaking show, Marawa Sports Worldwide, which was broadcast simultaneously on Metro FM and Radio 2000 last year.

With the broadcast houses releasing statements that the pundit was released – not fired – due to his contracts not being renewed, Robert Marawa, with the help of journalist and author Mandy Wiener, claims in his new book, Gqimm Shelele: The Robert Marawa Story, that he was fired on all occasions due to third parties.

“When I speak of external forces applying pressure on management at the SABC and SuperSport, who then am I referring to? I have said publicly that I believe that one person is responsible for having me fired multiple times.

He wrote: “I can never have proof. But, certainly, I have my suspicions. The first time I was fired from Metro by Sully [former SABC group sports executive Sully Motsweni] in 2017, I said to my producer that I thought the chairman, PSL chairman Irvin Khoza, was behind my firing.”

Marawa said this was followed up with a four-hour meeting with Khoza at a private room at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg, where Khoza rejected Marawa’s allegations, which were based on a meeting that occurred when he was at SuperSport. In a meeting, Marawa said, management told him that Khoza was not happy with his utterances regarding the Carling Black Label Cup, which he deemed distasteful.

He wrote: “I remembered the comments, but had not made them on a SuperSport platform. It had been on the radio, on Metro FM… Their argument was that I was the face of football at SuperSport and whatever comments I made, regardless of the platform, would reflect on them as a broadcaster.”

Marawa revealed that he went on to get fired from his show at SuperSport after he had raised an issue to the then CEO Gideon Khobane about female colleagues who were allegedly sexually harassed by their male counterparts. He said this signalled the existence of a cabal that had the power to silence him.

Marawa’s first exit from Metro FM came after he stood by his suspended producer Beverly Maphanga for playing clips on the station which were allegedly not authorized for airing. Marawa wrote that this was a deliberate trap set for him by the station to get rid of him.

The book says: “I believed that there was a cabal within the SABC, and its main aim was never about restoration or resurrection of the broadcaster. Their mission was to rubber-stamp their own authority and gain control and get rid of certain individuals. For some reason, I was always at the forefront of that and a prime target for this cabal.”

Robert Marawa, who was again fired by the broadcaster last year, reveals in the book that he was sent a WhatsApp message by acting station manager Kina Nhlengethwa, just three hours before his show, telling him not to report to the studio as his contract would not be renewed.

He said his frustrations began with the underhanded tactics by then Metro FM station manager Sibongile Mtyali, who removed him and his team from the station’s studios, forcing them to broadcast the show from Radio 2000’s smaller studios.

“There was a directive – not officially on paper – that was put out by Sibongile that the sports show would not be done at Metro. They would just take the audio from the Radio 2000 studio, but, physically, we must not set foot in the Metro FM studios. She did that because she could. Of course, she was part of the cabal whose initial decision to get me out was being turned on its head. She had to play her part in ensuring that we are not comfortable.”

Robert Marawa said he also faced difficulties with Radio 2000 station manager Christopher Choane, who caused problems for his team by raising issues over the simultaneous broadcast, saying they were not getting it right technically, with ad breaks that did not correspond and adverts that were similar on both stations.

As he faced more resistance and obstacles, he reached out to CEO Madoda Mxakwe, who had enticed him back to the SABC and had assured him that he would not be insulted.

Marawa said he initially had open communication channels with Mxakwe, but soon realised that things had changed when the latter started ignoring his text messages and turning down his meeting requests.

“In my mind, because I knew the landscape, I assumed the cabal had won him over and this was probably going to be the end of my time at the SABC.”

South African Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has turned into somewhat of a Twitter celebrity over the last few years. This hasn’t always been good for the Minister who often finds himself embroiled in controversy because of the app. He has once found himself in the middle of a face-off, this time with sports journalist, Robert Marawa.

If there is one thing about Fikile Mbalula, it’s that he loves the social media app, Twitter. The Minister is seemingly always on the app sharing tweets that often land him in trouble.

He has once again landed in hot water, this time with South African sportscaster Robert Marawa. It all started when Mbalula tweeted:

It seems he already said enough to get Marawa worked up because soon the former SABC employee was grilling the Minister, much to the amusement of Twitter users who quickly grabbed their popcorn to see how it would all unfold.

Of course, locals were not going to let it slide and were soon in the comment section sharing their thoughts on the rough exchange. A lot of them thought Marawa was taking the comment the wrong way.

Thulani said: “We’re aware that Marawa is now with Vuma FM, but that doesn’t change our plans.

“We still want Marawa back at the SABC.

“We are insisting on this because the SABC is a public broadcaster, which means millions of people will have access to his show.

“With the new broadcaster, only a few people will be able to listen to him.”

Saddam said fans will be using their vuvuzelas to show their anger with the public broadcaster management.

People’s Poet Mzwakhe Mbuli said a protest will be held on Saturday, 27 November at the SABC headquarters in Auckland Park, Joburg.

“We’ve informed everyone concerned, including the SABC, of the shutdown.

“Our demand is simple: we want the SABC to bring back Marawa,” he said.

He wrote on Twitter: “Let’s meet on Monday on #ReactionMonday LIVE on VumaFM, SowetanLIVE and RiseFM943, all three platforms at the same time from 5.30pm to 7pm from Monday to Friday.”

The public broadcaster was approached for comment and promised to respond to queries, but failed to do so at the time of going to print.

Robert Marawa details how he met Pearl Thusi

RADIO presenter Robert Marawa recently spoke out about his past relationship with actress Pearl Thusi.

The pair, once Mzansi’s cutest couple, broke up in 2017. Speaking about their split with controversial podcaster MacG, Robert said they were still on good terms.

“The relationship came to an end. And she’s right, there’s always been mutual respect. Actually, we communicated just the other day,” he said.

When asked why he could not keep a woman as most of his relationships seemed to end, Robert said he was kind of married to his work.

He revealed that his line of work was too busy, so he could not keep up with everything, sometimes worked on holidays and missed special moments such as birthdays and Valentine’s Day.

But, he said although he committed a lot more of his time to his career than he did to relationships, he liked that with Pearl, there was respect all-round.

“She also got the Quantico gig when she was in New York, which was a positive thing because I always knew that the one thing that’s driven her career was to one day hold an Oscar,” he added.

Confirming their split at the time, Robert took to social media and said: “I confirm the rumour and speculation that our relationship with Pearl ended a few months ago. We continue to be good friends though.”
