Video: Lasizwe spotted partying after claiming to be in a mental health institution

Mzansi’s Sweerie, Lasizwe recently made headlines when he announced that he would be checking himself into a mental health institution. But was it all fake?

It is no secret that Lasizwe is very widely loved. His sense of humour and how open he is with his followers are some of the reasons that his fans remain loyal.

This is why the internet was deeply moved when Sweerie announced that he would be checking himself into a mental health institution. In his social media statement, he said he was going in for depression, which he has battled for quite some time now.

Tweeps applauded his decision as brave. He was congratulated for destigmatizing mental health issues. Many saw it as an important step in getting more people to seek help for their issues, and to see that it’s not shameful to admit to needing help.

But now tweeps have reason to believe that it was all just a publicity stunt, and that Lasizwe did not, in fact, check himself into an institution.

A video has emerged online which allegedly shows the comedian in Sun City. He is dancing to OSAMA in the video, which is said to be at an event on Saturday 27th November. It has obviously angered his fans on social media.

Tweeps now think that the whole thing with him checking himself into an institution was nothing more than a campaign to sensitize the public on mental health. And while they agree that the intention is noble, they also think that it could have been done in a better way.

Fans believe it is insensitive to pretend to be checking into a mental health institution, then go out and back to living his best life. One tweep even thinks that doing that is a big insult to those who are genuinely battling mental health issues; that it makes a mockery of their real struggles.

As the municipal elections are underway in Mzansi, TV personality Lasizwe Dambuza has publicly endorsed his favourite party and he is not bothered by those targeting celebrities for their political affiliation.

The openly gay star also been campaigning for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the local government elections and it has been revealed that he is the EFF’s President For The LGBTQI+ community.

Tweeps are not impressed with celebs getting paid to mobilize them to vote for their favourite parties. This is as they often use their influence and power to persuade voters and some just do it for the money. Pearl Thusi admitted to her mistake, saying she only wanted to put food on the table and had rent to pay when she rallied with the ANC and DA.

Another star who recently received backlash on social media for sharing a picture of her wearing an ANC inspired regalia is Makhadzi.

She ruffled major feathers on social media for being affiliated with the party. Makhadzi had been invited to meet the country’s president Cyril. After sharing the snap on her Twitter account, Twitter users slammed her.

She even had to delete the picture as it ignited outrage online and controversial poet Ntsiki Mazwai came for her. She took to her Facebook account to pen a lengthy open letter to the Matorokisi hitmaker dragging her for supporting the ruling party.

She said she has worked hard to build her brand and it she is not worth “prostituting” herself for their campaigns.” You are too powerful to cheapen your brand by aligning it with the Phoenix massacre and the burning of food looted by the poor. You are too powerful to involve yourself in the power plays of old men hanging onto expired power.

Unlike Brenda Fassie, who wore the ANC colors at the dawn of democracy… We had never had a black president before. So when Brenda Fassie put on those colors they represented something powerful. The only thing ANC represents right now is poverty, corruption and elitism. Are you sure you want to pick sides so early in your career? ANC used to be a liberation movement, but what has it become today?

In ending she advised her to guard her integrity and influence.” My advice to you is to guard your integrity and influence with your life, don’t allow your beautiful gift to be used to sanitize politicians, that’s not your role. The politicians must compete in service delivery and stop trying to ride your wave for relevance. Sister you matter right now, in your freedom of association please remember that your fan base spreads across the t-shirts. When you choose a color you alienate the others.

South African musician and television personality Nandi Madida was recently a guest on Lasizwe’s popular Drink or Tell The Truth show on YouTube. Nandi was immediately put on the spot after she was asked to rate who has the best fashion sense between Mohale, Pearl Thusi and Bonang Matheba.

She said that Mohale still has a long way to go. But she has nothing but love for him.

“I’m about to put a disclaimer. Pearl, I love you, my child. I’d say that Mohale because I don’t relate to his style. So that’s not too bad. And I think that he’s still new to the style game but I know he has got a lot to offer. There is potential. You need a few more years to show that you really understand this fashion game.”

Choosing between Pearl Thusi and Bonang Matheba was not easy for the star. Since she had to make a choice, she ended up going for Pearl Thusi.

“The one is very elegant, slique and sharp. And the other is eclectic, my homegirl and I love her. Bonang I’d say you second and Pearl Thusi I’d say you are number one. And I’ll tell you why – because Pearl has variety. I’ve seen her do that elegant slique look but I’ve seen her also do her ratchet where she twerks for me. And for that my homegirl – well done – you’re number one.” She explained her choice.

It was then Nandi’s turn to ask the big question. She asked Lasizwe about the house which he claimed he had bought in Sandton, until her sister Khanyi Mbau called her out. “In 2018. If your sister didn’t call you out about not buying a house, would you have come out clean?” Asked Nandi.

Reflecting on the situation, he is glad that she called him out because had she not, the situation would have gotten out of control.

“Okay, to be honest, if Khanyi didn’t call me out, (laughs). But lesson learnt, for me. You know journalists, they investigate and it would’ve spiralled out of control and I’d look way worse. Thank you so much for calling me out.” He expressed.

Dambuza added that it was not his intention to do so. Everyone on social media started congratulating him, thinking that he had bought a house and he decided to run with it.

“Let me tell you something right. I moved into my new apartment right. And I posted from Soweto to Sandton and everyone was congratulating me on the house and I ran with it.

And then Khanyi calls me to ask if I had bought a house. She told me to tell the truth or she’ll throw me out and she did. And we didn’t speak for a good month. We were just like not talking to each other.” He said.

Lasizwe also revealed that things are not cool between him and Natasha Thahane. He revealed that they have unfollowed one another on social media. “Even Natasha and I have unfollowed each other on all platforms.”
