Mandela family sets the record straight

Mandela family sets the record straight

Mandela family sets the record straight

The Mandela family read with unhappiness the article written by Kailene Pillay published online on 14th October 2021 titled “Winnie Madikizela Mandela family support relative accused of taking from late struggle icon memorial funds”.

As the family of Nelson and Winnie Mandela we were surprised to read such, particularly the claim made by Thembelani Madikizela that he is the family spokesperson. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last that individuals will make misleading claims that they speak for and on behalf of the Nelson and Winnie Mandela family.

As a family we are deeply concerned and distressed that people not only feel entitled to claim they speak and represent the Mandela family but the media itself continues to allow this practice to go unchecked or verify such prior to publishing such articles without first getting a comment from the family.

This continued practice of people claiming to be the family spokesperson at times brings the Mandela name not only into disrepute but in the process brings distress and heart ache to the family. This article is a clear example of such. Furthermore, to find out that funds were abused is very upsetting for us as a family especially in light of the fact that it has been reported that money raised was also misused during the funeral of our father/ granddad.

We are extremely offended that an individual(s) would take this opportunity to personally benefit during a period of mourning for the family to say its final goodbyes, as well as the country and world.

Muvhango’s Shaz (Candy Magidimisa) blesses herself with new car

The beautiful and talented Candy Magidimisa has treated herself to a swanky new car. The actress who plays the role of Sharon “Shaz” Mukwevho, Rendani’s half-sister, on SABC 2 soapie Muvhango, took to social media to show off the swanky new ride.

However, the Muvhango actress was rather coy about sharing the full details of her new ride. She did not reveal the make and model of the vehicle and only shared a picture of the vehicle. Covered under a tarpaulin.

Candy captioned the image, “Better Days. God is faithful.”

Former Muvhango actress Buhle Samuels who shot to fame playing the role of the vixen Matshidiso Mofokeng congratulated Candy on the new vehicle. Buhle Samuels wrote, “Congratulations.”

Another Muvhango actress, Innocentia Manchidi who plays the role of Rendani Mukwevho, also congratulated her on-screen sister on the purchase. Innocentia wrote, “Congratulations ku nana.”

Many of Muvhango’s followers commented on Shaz’s post, congratulating the actress on her new car.

The new car comes a few months after Candy Magidimisa took back control from trolls by putting together a collection of memes made about her on social media in an album.

The meme collection was launched on “Muvhango”’s social media channels on June 15.

Candy, whose face has been used as a meme by hundreds of social media users, says the aim is to show people that they can turn whatever is meant to humiliate them into humour.

Singer Zahara reveals her new management

ZAHARA has hired a new management team!

The Afro-pop singer, whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana, is now working with H.U.G.E Entertainment owned by music specialist Vusi Leeuw.

In August, Daily Sun reported that Zahara dumped her manager and wanted to work with new people.

Leeuw said Zahara has built her brand up to an international level.

“She is currently signed with American recording company, Warner Music Group.

“She has also released her current album Nqaba Yam with this company,” he said.

“She has worked so hard. Our job is simple, it is to protect her brand by making sure that it grows even bigger and stronger.

“We will also get her international gigs and make sure she gets everything that is due to her.”

Leeuw has worked with numerous celebrities, launching their brands and managing their affairs. Among the artists are Boity Thulo, Nomzamo Mbatha, Buhle Samuels, HHP and Mandoza.

Leeuw also assisted in making Arthur Mafokate’s 999 Music Records a successful recording label in the 1990s.

WATCH: Teaser for Showmax’s upcoming telenovela, The Wife

WATCH: Teaser for Showmax’s upcoming telenovela, The Wife

Showmax has released a teaser for The Wife, the first Showmax Original telenovela, premiering on 11 November 2021.

When Showmax announced they were making a telenovela inspired by Dudu Busani-Dube’s bestselling novel Hlomu the Wife, overjoyed fans immediately took to social media to offer their casting suggestions for the lead roles of Hlomu and Mqhele.

The teaser gives fans their first glimpse of the actors who landed the coveted roles. Rising star Mbalenhle Mavimbela (Skeem Saam, Isipho) will play Hlomu, the journalist who falls in love with a taxi driver, not realising that when you marry a man, you marry his secrets. Mqhele will be played by Bonko Khoza, who burst onto the acting scene as Jabz in the multi-award-winning film Necktie Youth and has since appeared in the likes of Professionals and the Emmy-nominated Roots. “I got to spend some time with Mbali and Bonko on set and they are great – new, fresh faces,” says Dudu. “They’ve already developed a chemistry and should do justice to the characters.”

“Mbalenhle and Bonko are fairly fresh faces in the industry; there isn’t any one role or character that audiences can instinctively affix to them,” says showrunner Gugu Ncube-Zuma. “As a result, they will truly embody and be known intrinsically as Hlomu and Mqhele. What solidified this decision was their undeniable chemistry: it was just electric.”

“When I found out Hlomu the Wife was being turned into a series, I jumped at the chance to audition,” says Mbalenhle. “Funnily enough, a while back I did a Tik Tok pretending to be Hlomu the Wife and that I had ‘made it’, not knowing that I would end up playing the character. It was even trending.”

She’s delighted her casting is finally public. “It feels like I’ve been keeping a secret from my fans and followers for months, and I couldn’t even post a hint. I’ve been watching fans ‘casting’ from the sidelines on Twitter and Facebook but haven’t been able to say anything.”

The cast also includes Kwenzo Ngcobo (Imbewu); Sipho Ndlovu (Isibaya, The Queen); SAFTA winner Abdul Khoza (Isibaya, Kings of Joburg); Mondli Makhoba (Isithembiso, Generations, Imbewu) and SAFTA nominee Thulane Shange (Is’thunzi, Ifalakhe) as the Zulu brothers; TikTok star Linda Majola; and SAFTA nominees Bongani Gumede (Isibaya, Zone 14, Yizo Yizo), Dumisani Dlamini (Usindiso, Yizo Yizo), Siyabonga Shibe (Gazlam, Ashes to Ashes, Rockville) and Zikhona Sodlaka (Blood Psalms, DiepCity).

The Wife is being produced by Stained Glass, who’ve created SAFTA-winning shows like eHostela and Ifalakhe as well as Uzalo, South Africa’s most-watched soap opera. Showmax has commissioned three seasons of 40 episodes each, inspired by Dudu’s books Hlomu the Wife, Zandile the Resolute, and Naledi His Love respectively. The books follow the lives of the eight Zulu brothers, a formidable crime family, through the eyes of the wives they marry.

The Wife is the eighth South African Showmax Original released in 2021, following on from record breakers like the true-crime phenomenon Devilsdorp and Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha’s reality series Uthando Lodumo, as well as critically acclaimed scripted series like DAM, Skemerdans and Tali’s Baby Diary and ever popular reality series like Temptation Island South Africa S1 and Life With Kelly Khumalo S2.

Binge the first three episodes of The Wife from 11 November 2021, with three new episodes added every Thursday.
