Man falls into gorge at Victoria Falls
A Harare man on holiday with his family fell into a gorge at the Victoria Falls on New Year’s Day.

A rescue team by 5pm had not located him.

Zimbabwe national parks (Zimparks) spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said that the tourist fell into the gorge around 2.30pm.
“There was an incident this afternoon when a 40-year-old man fell into the gorge around 2.30pm. We are on the ground searching for him,” said Farawo.

The incident happened at a time when the Victoria Falls is experiencing heavy water supply from the Zambezi River owing to the recent local and regional rains.

The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) this week said an estimated 513 cubic metres per second were flowing into the Victoria Falls as of December 23 2020. This is a steady rise from 302 cubic metres per second from the same time in 2019.

In April 2020 when the river flow in the Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls was low, Elmon Muleya, 29, from Victoria Falls town cheated death after he fell in a gorge into the Zambezi River before a boulder landed on him crushing both legs.

In 2005 a tourist from Johannesburg died on New Year’s Eve when he fell 40m down a rock face at the Victoria Falls while trying to recover spectacles he had dropped.

Hulisani Ravele who accidentally broke up with her boyfriend of 10 years Pysfo now looking for love
Former YOTV presenter Hulisani Ravele has pleaded with the universe to get a boyfriend in 2021.

Ravele who dated producer, musician, and actor, Sydwell ‘Pysfo’ Ngwenya for 10 years is still single and unmarried.

The two child-stars who dated during their YOTV days broke up after Psyfo met his current wife; Amirah. Psyfo dated Amira for three years before proposing marriage and the two got married last month.
“My New Year’s Eve wishlist, BBB: Brown Sugar, A boy, and Bubbles. I know you hear me universe. Pretty please and thank you.”

The TV presenter replied to her tweet from last year and tweeted: “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try and try again. Dear Universe, my message doesn’t seem to have reached you last year and here I am again, asking nicely… Thanks!”

The fact that Ngwenya and his wife dated for just over three years before they became husband and wife didn’t sit well with some Tweeps as they believe he wasted Ravele’s time during their 10-year relationship.

Hulisani, however, doesn’t feel like his ex wasted her time as her fans suggest. She addressed this during an interview with Mac G last year.

Ravele stated: “He has an amazing heart, he’s a kindhearted person that genuinely means the best.”

When asked why they broke up, Ravele said: “Life happened,”

And no, she doesn’t feel like her time was wasted in the relationship. “At the end of the day, for me, a marriage is just a relationship that just has a certificate attached to it.” She added that they did speak about marriage. “People grow apart, it happens,” she said.

In case you’re wondering, it wasn’t a bad breakup.

Here’s to hoping that things turn around for Ravele in 2021!

Life after Senzo Meyiwa – Kelly Khumalo opens up
Kelly Khumalo appears in the latest issue of Moziak magazine where she spoke about the year she’s had.

In the interview with the online magazine, Khumalo opened up about media scrutiny and being in the public eye where she said: “I mean, what can I say? I’m not going to sit here and pretend to be a victim and cry over every bad thing people have said about me. I understand the life I lead and what comes with it and I have grown thick skin over the years and learnt to deal with it.

“Yes, sometimes it hurts, sometimes it cuts deep, but for the most part I have learnt to leave them to it. There will always be doubters and detractors.”
However, the Senzo Meyiwa case brought the singer back into the spotlight after Police Minister, Bheki Cele said police had arrested five suspects in the murder case and leaked documents on social media suggested police were investigating Khumalo’s involvement in Meyiwa’s death.

Social media had a field day with the allegations with many weighing in on her involvement with the case.

Tell us about The Voice of Africa, what made you choose to theme your album around the continent?

This album was rooted in Africa. Anybody who knows me knows I am proudly African and I always encourage Africans to embrace their roots, to unite and to learn about our respective cultures.

The Voice of Africa was really me paying homage to African women, African people and telling authentic African stories using my gift – my voice. Hence the title, The Voice of Africa came about. There are a lot of negative stereotypes about a lot of African things; from our unique spiritual practices, to our medicinal practices, even down to how we view other Africans, so this album for me was also about educating my listeners about this beautiful place we come from.

At a time when a lot of artists were delaying releases, what made you continue to go ahead with your plans?

Well to be honest, most of my album was recorded before lockdown so I wouldn’t say I experienced any delays. One of the songs, Esphambanweni, the vocalists (myself and Hlengiwe Mhlaba) recorded it at separate venues but aside from that, everything else was all done. The only thing left once lockdown began was mixing and mastering and once that was done, we planned a release date and thankfully, we were able to go ahead with it.

For me, I consider myself to be an artist rather than just a musician, and once I complete a body of art I send it out to the world and see what the reaction will be.

Speaking of art, are you never worried that some people will misinterpret your message, like what happened with the Empini music video where people accused you of Blackface?

Can I tell you something? I knew there would be something like that. I knew that despite all the research I had done, and the historical background behind the role I was portraying (the Egyption goddess Bastet), there was going to be someone who looked for the negative in it. So I was prepared for those blackface comments and when they came about, I simply explained my reasoning for the video. Art is always subjective, it can be controversial but only if you don’t have the context. Context is everything.

Do you ever think that the media and some people in the country are just looking for an excuse to paint you in a bad light?

I mean, what can I say? I’m not going to sit here and pretend to be a victim and cry over every bad thing people have said about me. I understand the life I lead and what comes with it and I have grown thick skin over the years and learnt to deal with it.

Yes, sometimes it hurts, sometimes it cuts deep, but for the most part I have learnt to leave them to it. There will always be doubters and detractors.

With the country closed (again!) do you miss performing live in front of an audience?

I miss it so much, I miss the electricity of the stage but at the same time I understand why things are the way they are. These are not normal times that we are living in.

Once things open up across the globe, what is the one iconic venue you would love to perform at?

Oh wow! You’re putting me on the spot here. There are so many that come to mind, I think I would love to do some venues across the continent. I would love to perform in West and East Africa, as well as other parts of Southern Africa. If I have to choose one “iconic venue” … maybe Madison Square Garden in New York City.

That’s the perfect venue for a singer such as yourself. I have to ask about your skills as a vocalist, how did you become such a powerful singer?

Thank you! I have always said that I grew up as a gospel singer, I grew up singing in the church. When you sing in church, you learn so much about music and vocals and you have to have a powerful voice to command that pulpit. So my church background definitely helped, then the rest I guess is just my natural gift.

But to be honest, I’ve been thinking of getting a vocal coach and it’s something I want to work on soon.

Are you joking? Shouldn’t you be the vocal coach?

[Laughs] As much as I think I am a great singer, I believe a coach could help me become even better and even more purposeful with my voice. Even Beyonce had a vocal coach. No matter how good you are, someone out there can still take you to the next level.

Well we’ve seen you sing everything from Afropop to gospel and even RnB. As you expand your range, could we ever see you doing some of SA’s current mainstream genres like amapiano and gqom?

NO! No, not me. [Laughs] Don’t get me wrong for one second, I love both of those genres, and I am not saying there is anything wrong with gqom vocalists or amapiano singers at all. It’s just not really suited for my voice unless, I don’t know, if it’s possible to slow it down or something.

…But there are some soulful amapiano songs!

Okay, true. Let me say that I probably won’t do a gqom song, but if it was a smooth and soulful, loungey amapiano song then maybe.

Any message to the country ahead of 2021?

It’s been a long year and I know that we are all tired right now but we still need to remain strong, remain disciplined for some of the months ahead. It hasn’t been easy but part of me believes the worst is behind us. Let’s just try our best to remain strong, remain diligent for these next few weeks or months until we have finally won this battle.

Somizi's first husband Mohale attacked after Somizi enters #2021 with Vusi Nova
The Mhlongo-Motaung household never gets the chance to catch a small break from trolls who meddle in their business. Even on New Year’s Eve, Somizi Mhlongo and Mohale Motaung’s relationship, as well as Somizi’s friendship with Vusi Nova, was placed under scrutiny by many but Somgaga managed to put many in their place.

The rumours of a love triangle have been circulating for some time now but things quickly escalated following reports of a looming divorce. The couple had been alleged to have separated with Somizi moving out of their marital Dainfern home. The matter was especially sparked by Somizi’s social media posts, where he was seen posing next to one of his properties.

Mohale too was rumoured to be spending less time at their home and was living his best life in the North. Adding fuel to the fire was when Mohale attended his friend’s funeral alone while, his husband was partying a storm in the presence of his “true endless love,” Vusi Nova.”
Allegations of infidelity as well played a major role in the ongoing social media bullying they suffer. It all started when they were still engaged with reports stating that Mohale Motaung, had allegedly two-timed him with a teen identified only as Vuyo Pan.

However, now people are more focused on the fact that Vusi and Somizi are pretty much inseparable as Somgaga celebrated his birthday with Vusi Nova as well as New Year’s Eve. Mohale was nowhere in sight so that served as confirmation for many.

Mohale got dragged for ‘trying too hard’ when he relayed a sweet message to Somgaga which reads; “If someone sat down and tried to outline the qualities that a stellar partner has, I’m sure the list of qualities would include things like loving, caring, kind, sympathetic, strong, compassionate, astute, intelligent, hardworking, driven, humorous, and little would that person writing that list know that they were describing you!”The couple spent Christmas with their own families and for NYE Mohale was at his grandmother’s house, but many expected the two to be in each other’s arms to welcome the year 2021.

Mohale was trending following a video posted by Somgaga and his bestie singing along to Blaq Diamond’s hit song Summer Yomuthi. Again Mohale was nowhere in sight.

Having read all the nasty comments, Somgaga clapped back and asked trolls why are they so invested in their personal matters even on NYE. “I have an ask….to the people who are so invested in my love life…..is your festive that bad that you’re so interested in what’s happening between me, Vusi and Mohale….hayi it must be bad shemmmm askies…..how can I help bathong….@mohale_motaung babe siza tu. @novavusi love help,” he clapped back.

With the possibility of viewers boycotting eHostela because Sjava is the newest addition, Mandla said he is not worried about such as he believes many other abusers and alleged abusers still roam freely. He believes that because his case got thrown out that will attract people more.

“People have been craving Sjava, they haven’t seen him in a while. He’s been living under this whole entire thing that has been a kind of a cloud over his life. But now he can express himself.”

In a statement Sjava released addressing these rape allegations, he denied raping Lady Zamar however apologised for the hurt he caused her. Sjava reiterated countless times that the rape accusations are false.

Sowetan Live had gotten a hold of Limpopo police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe, who confirmed that the case against Sjava was declined for prosecution on November 5.

Sfiso ‘Tsoro’ Tshutshini is fuming after thugs stole his money.

He told Daily Sun he was minding his own business when he received a notification that his bank card had been used to buy something via LinkedIn.

After the incident earlier this week, he posted on Facebook: “When I got home last week, I noticed my bank cards were not on me. I thought I had left them in my room in Durban.

“I then received an SMS notification for some LinkedIn purchase made with my Capitec card. I called Capitec to ask how this could have happened and asked them to reverse the transaction.

“They said someone used my card for online shopping without a PIN. The bank promised to investigate the matter and would come back to me in seven to 14 days’ time,” he said.

Sfiso said after he receivedd the notification, he visited the branch in Shelly Beach.

“There was no willingness on their part to reverse the transaction or help me. All they said was that someone must have stolen my banking details.

“They said I needed to pay between R60 and R170 for them to reverse the transaction. Why must I pay if it’s not my fault?

“I trusted the bank but not after this. For me, this means there’s a possibility of it happening again.

“I’m angry and scared at the same time.”

Sfiso said he blocked the card but didn’t open a case with the police.

“Initially, I wanted to open a case but after reporting the matter to the bank, I was discouraged,” he told the People’s Paper.
