As a song that was played in many radio stations for people like Professor, the win was definitely his.

As the clock moved steadily towards midnight, the top three was announced and it was non other than Big Zulu who took the number three spot. It then became pretty obvious that the two biggest songs in the country according to Ukhozi FM and their 7.7 million listeners were Maskandi songs performed by Khuzani and Indlabeyiphika.

very other year, the Ukhozi FM Song Of The Year which is decided by listeners in all radio stations causes a stir on social media and conversations around tribalism occur. Yearly, the radio station gets lambasted by many people for only showing support to KZN artists.

In a video, Professor said the radio station presenters Tshatha Ngobe, Sipho “DJ Sgqemeza” Mbatha and it’s listeners, especially Maskandi supporters were jealous of Big Zulu’s success. “You are all jealous, Big Zulu did not win Song Of The Year?” he says, as he proceeds to cuss the radio presenters. “A song that is played nationwide and around the world, did not win. You guys are all jealous.”

Realizing his mistake, Professor then took back his words and apologised to everyone he offended. He said he has no idea where his words came from and he does not wish to repeat what he said.

Many artists were also rooting for Big Zulu to win as they believe it would mean a lot for the game. Cassper Nyovest said, “@BigZulu_ZN winning song of the year on Ukhozi FM would be such a dope moment for the culture.”

In other radio stations Makhadzi won Song Of The Year for her hit single Murahu on various radio stations nationwide. She also made history by being the only artist to take the title for two years in a row. Last year she won Song Of The Year for Haka Matorikisi.

Nomcebo Zikode and Makhadzi celebrate as they dominate song of the year top picks

Nomcebo Zikode and Makhadzi have dominated the Song of the Year top picks of many national radio stations.

On UkhoziFM, SA ’ s biggest public broadcast radio station, maskandi artist Khuzani won the controversial “Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka ” (Song that takes us into the newyear) competition.

Makhadzi ’ s hit Murahu featuring Mr Brown was named Song of the Year by four radio stations – Motsweding, Thobela, Phalaphala and Munghana Lonene FM.

“All my fans, Khadzinators, I thank you. I see all the love in the country and across the border. All radio stations that crossed over with Murahu , from the bottom of my heart I appreciate the love,” Makhadzi said.

Zikode ’ s Xola Moya Wam featuring her Jerusalema collaborator Master KG topped the countdown on Lesedi and Metro FM. The song also received countless mentions in many year-end top 10s, including peaking at number four on Ukhozi FM.

“I never thought that one day I will achieve so much, I mean Metro FM and Lesedi are so big. I’m so happy and thank God every day. I never thought when I wrote and recorded this song that South Africans will love it this much, ” Zikode said.

“For me it doesn’t matter how many radio stations chose me as number one, what matters is that my name is being mentioned in so many top 10s.

“There are so many politics around it obviously, but I try by all means to not focus on them and do what God wants me to do.

“It ’s God that will lead me. I can ’t promise more hits or say that I ’ m bigger than others because I know with this industry today it’s me and tomorrow it ’s someone else.”

Khuzani ’s Ijele received a staggering 957,950 votes to be named Ukhozi FM ’s Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka. As usual the campaign was marred by court drama after Owen Ndlovu ’ s Michael Owen Productions issued an urgent application to interdict the SABC from announcing the results of the poll.

According to a statement by the SABC, the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg struck off the application from the roll due to lack of urgency.

“The SABC is pleased that the court order removes any confusion that may have been occasioned by the application and reiterates the SABC ’ s position that the corporation was within its right to continue implementing Ukhozi FM ’ s ‘ Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka ’ campaign which has been running over the years on the station,” said acting SABC spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo.

Elsewhere, Umhlobo Wenene and Ligwalagwala FMwere in agreement that viral hit Mali Eningi by Big Zulu featuring Riky Rick and Intaba Yase Dubai was their Song of the Year.

IKwekwezi FM listeners chose relatively unknown Ganu Ganu by trio Mega, Cube and Audrey Kozwana as their Song of the Year. However, there were some unhappy listeners who took to social media complaining and lambasting the choice.

Watch: “I have been labelled as this woman who kills men” – Kelly Khumalo breaks down

Fans were introduced to a different side of singer Kelly Khumalo this year, when her reality show Life With Kelly Khumalo, lit up screens.

The show debuted in August and was quickly the talk of social media for producing several explosive moments.

The series not only showed Kelly’s home life and her interactions with her family, but also touched on her relationships with late Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa and rapper Molemo Jub Jub Maarohanye.

Here are five moments that had viewers on the edge of their seats:

“I have been labelled as this woman who kills men”

In an emotional moment from the show, Kelly spoke about the heartbreak she felt at being labelled a killer, after many accused her of being involved in Senzo’s death.

Kelly broke down as she claimed that her loss had been used against her.

“I have been labelled as this woman who kills men, and I don’t have it in me to murder anyone. It just so turns out that society has taken my loss and used it against me. How is that fair?” she asked.

“Why don’t I have a dad?”

Senzo and Kelly’s daughter also brought on the waterworks when she asked where her father was.

Kelly did her best to explain to her daughter about Senzo’s death and his love for her, but admitted it was hard.

How do I start the conversation? How do I even tell my daughter who her father is and what happened to him? Because this is such a heavy story for a five-year-old.”

And viewers could feel her pain

“I won’t be made a fool by Molema (Jub Jub)”

After 10-year-old Christian was suspended from school because he lied and stole someone’s hat, Kelly felt he needed a father-figure in his life to guide him.

She had an honest conversation with him about looking for his father, but Christian was at first hesitant, saying he is fine with just having his mother in his life.

She later claimed that Christian’s father, Jub Jub, has never tried to reach out to her to try reunite with his son.

“Love you, mom”

Christian also gave viewers this sweet moment between him and his mom.

What started out as a request to go play with his friends, ended up being a lesson in social distancing and wearing a mask.

But Covid-19 prevention aside, it was their cute interaction and exchanges of “I love you” that had fans in tears.

“When I pass on, I want to leave you and Zandile united”

Kelly fell out with her sister Zandie earlier this year, after she issued a statement distancing herself from an alleged scam in which Zandie’s husband Mhlo Gumede was allegedly involved.

She made it clear that the pair had reached a place of “no return” but their mother Ntombi was holding out for a reunion.

“When I pass on, I want to leave you and Zandile united,” a teary Ntombi said.

Kelly was not moved though and said she was ready to go to war if needed.

“If my sister wants to go to war with me, I will give her a war. My mother is giving my sister and that demon of hers a ticket to disrespect the Khumalos. I don’t understand why my mother is crying.”

Veteran actor John Kani lashes out at the govt for delays in securing the Covid vaccine

Actor John Kani has seemingly taken a swipe at government for moving at a snail’s pace to secure a vaccine that could save millions of lives. Russia and China are moving fast to secure a coronavirus vaccine.

Government had previously told South Africans it was at an advanced stage to ensure a vaccine was secured. However, according to reports, government hasn’t paid the millions required to secure it.

John Kani took issue with this.

“If Russia has a vaccine, China has a vaccine, Brazil is about to use the Russia Sputnik V vaccine, and we don’t have a vaccine yet, then what the hell are we doing in Brics?” he tweeted.

He was referring to the five emerging national economies grouping, of which Mzansi is a member.
