Corruption scandal hits The River actor Presley Chweneyagae (Cobra)

The report about actor Presley Chweneyagae‘s alleged corruption stems from the corruption watch publication GroundUp. Specifically, from investigative journalist Raymond Joseph.

Joseph was investigating the nearly R70 million which was received by The Southern African Youth Movement. Chweneyagea was implicated in the first R15 million which was received by the movement in question and the Presley Chweneyagae Foundation, for the play which was co-written and co-directed by Chwenengayae and Tshepo Ratona titled Taking Back The Future.

At the time, the play was aimed at highlighting and bringing awareness to the drug crisis in South Africa as the premise was that of an exploration of “ the lives of young individuals living in a busy, yet lonely street of South Africa’s capital, Pretoria,” as stated by the description.

Moreover, when interviewed about the play, Chweneyagea and Ratona were quoted as stating, “This is a dual artistic project, it constitutes both theatre and film elements. The production will tour three provinces, Free State, Mpumalanga, and the North West Province.”

But instead of the three-province tour, it is reported by Joseph that the play never made it out of Mafikeng following its premiere and five-day run in June 2017. As such, Joseph proposes that Chweneyagae and the Southern African Youth Movement misappropriated the funds.

This a sentiment that the board chairperson Dr. Lekgotla Mafisa denied vehemently when giving his official word saying, “We hope that you are not going to use Mr. Chweneyagae maliciously to sensationalize his participation in the project, of which he is not a beneficiary. The SAYM is a beneficiary and not the Chweneyagae Foundation. Mr Presley Chweneyagae was not paid in his personal capacity.”

However, the report then questions why Chweneyagea’s foundation was included in al the promotional posters, audition calls, etc. However, currently, it seems that Chweneyagea is not bothered as he has not addressed the matter as it is currently not an official legal investigation.

ANC’s Gwede Mantashe hits back at critics who say he’s too old for politics

ANC’s Gwede Mantashe hits back at critics who say he’s too old for politics

With activists calling for his head in government and his own comrades saying he is too old to remain at the helm, the African National Congress (ANC)’s Gwede Mantashe will have to rely on a charm offensive if he wants to be re-elected as national chair of the party this month.

While Mantashe insists he is not ready to retire from political life, some in the ANC say it’s time for a change of guard.

The 67-year-old politician is also the minerals and energy minister.

He is one of three leaders who’ve made it onto the ballot ahead of the ANC’s 55th national conference but is trailing behind Limpopo’s Stan Mathabatha.

Though Mantashe is ahead of David Masondo, the third contender, some argue the much younger leader could be a necessary departure from the tradition of an elder being elected as chairperson.

Mantashe barely had any competition in 2017, when Nasrec 1 took place but he returns to the venue with a strong pushback for him to retire.

He’s dismissed such arguments, hitting back at those who say his time is up.

“Those people celebrated the return of Lulu da Silva as president of Brazil but when it is here, they begin to talk about age even where age is irrelevant.”

Mantashe is a mining man, with a communist background, who’s found it relatively easy to engage with different communities over the years.

He’s served as an official in the ANC since 2007, where he was elected secretary-general at the controversial Polokwane conference.

He was re-elected in 2012 and five years later he was back as an official but in a different capacity.

This time around Mantashe’s facing a hurdle called Stan Mathabatha, who’s got over 1,400 nominations.

Analyst Sandile Swana said that Mantashe had to go to the ground if he wanted to clinch support away from Mathabatha.

“So it’s a problem for Gwede. To correct these numbers, he needs to be supported by somebody who has a lot of support and those people are Paul Mashatile and Nomvula Mokonyane.”

The ANC will elect new leaders at its national conference which takes place between 16 and 20 December.

Nick Cannon Shares Why Son Zen Didn’t Go Through Chemotherapy

Nick Cannon is looking back on a difficult decision he made for his late son. The TV host recently reflected on the death of his and Alyssa Scott’s baby boy Zen, who passed away at just 5-months-old due to a brain tumor in 2021. As Nick has now explained, Zen did not go through chemotherapy after doctors offered it—for a few reasons.

“They pretty much told me that best case scenario, your son could live to 3 or 4 years old,” Nick recalled during the Dec. 12 episode of The Checkup with Dr. David Agus, per People. “So instantly when I heard that, I thought, quality of life. I wanted him to have the best existence he could have.”

The 42-year-old, who has himself been through chemotherapy to treat lupus, had a personal idea of what the treatment would be like for Zen—who had to undergo a few procedures, such as having a shunt installed to drain fluid from his brain
Seeing your son hooked up to all of those machines—and he had to go for a shunt two or three times, and that was heartbreaking every time—even in that short amount of time, I couldn’t imagine him having to go through chemo,” Nick said. “I knew how as a full grown man, that process. I wouldn’t even call it pain. It just sucked everything out of you. I couldn’t imagine that on a newborn and what that would do.”

Nick also had concerns about how Zen’s days would be spent having to “live in the hospital” if they chose to move forward with the treatment. Nick noted, “He would have never gone home.”
In December 2021, the comedian revealed during an episode of The Nick Cannon Show that Zen had passed away on Dec. 5, 2021. At the time, Nick detailed their final moments together, recalling holding Zen “for the last time” while by the ocean with Alyssa.

One year after his death, Nick honored the first anniversary of Zen’s passing by sharing thoughts on what he called the “toughest day” of his life.

“Losing a child has to be the heaviest, most dark and depressive experiences that I will never get over,” Nick wrote on Instagram Dec. 5. “A mixture of guilt, pain, and sorrow is what I suppress daily. I love hard, I love big and I love with my entire Heart and Soul and I just wish my Little Man could’ve felt more of that love while he was here on Earth.”

Alyssa and Nick are currently expecting their second child together—the star’s 12th. He also shares 11-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-wife Mariah Carey; 5-year-old son Golden “Sagon,” 23-month-old daughter Powerful Queen and 2-month-old son Rise Messiah with Brittany Bell; 18-month-old twin sons Zion and Zillion and newborn daughter Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa; 5-month-old son Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi and 3-month-old daughter Onyx Ice with LaNisha Cole.

Judges Matter welcomes Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe’s suspension

NGO Judges Matter has welcomed the suspension of Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe.

The office of the Presidency announced Hlophe’s suspension on Wednesday pending the outcome of an impeachment vote by the National Assembly.

President Cyril Ramaphosa received a report by the Judicial Services Commission in July.

The commission found that Hlophe was guilty of gross misconduct for trying to influence Constitutional Court justices Bess Nkabinde and Chris Jafta in a case involving former President Jacob Zuma and arms company, Thint.

The matter dates back to the 2008 corruption case in the multi-billion rand arms deal.

Judges Matter researcher, Mbekezeli Benjamin: “The incident is unfortunate. It’s not good for a judge to be found guilty of gross misconduct. The more a judge who has been found guilty of gross misconduct stays in office, it tarnishes the reputation of the judiciary.”

While Benjamin said that Hlophe’s conduct brought the Constitutional Court into disrepute, he believed that the country’s judiciary remained independent and impartial.

“We can be certain that the judges of the Constitutional Court, right now, have the integrity to be in the highest level of our court system.”
