After South African television presenter Pearl Modiadie posted pictures of her son Lewatle Olivier Oppenheimer’s first birthday party, Tweeps assumed the father of her child was related to the South African billionaire family — the Oppenheimers.

Over the past weekend, Pearl Modiadie posted pictures of her son’s first birthday party, finally revealing his face. However, people were less interested in how adorable the toddler is and more interested in his surname.

Lewatle Olivier Oppenheimer is the son of Pearl and Nathaniel Oppenheimer. Nathaniel’s surname is well known in South Africa because of the billionaire Oppenheimer family.

Nicholas Oppenheimer is a South African businessman who was formerly the chairman of De Beers mining company and of its subsidiary the Diamond Trading Company making him the third richest man in Africa. He has an estimated net worth of R117 billion making him the richest man in South Africa.

So is the father of Pearl Modiadie’s child a billionaire Oppenheimer? Well, Modiadie took to Twitter to clear up the speculation and let her 227 900 followers know that she has no personal affiliation with the Oppenheimer family.

Nathaniel Oppenheimer is a French businessman who dated Pearl Modiadie for a few years. The pair have kept their relationship under wraps. However, they are no longer together but have a co-parenting relationship for their son.

“Mom and Dad love you very much! Happy Birthday baby and thank you for giving us the most fulfilling year of our lives ,” she wrote on Instagram.

Although they aren’t romantically together, Pearl celebrated Nathaniel’s birthday with him as a family.

“Out celebrating a special day today! Happy Birthday baby daddy ✨Here’s to many more special moments and the greatest parenting journey for us as we raise the most amazing boy in the world! ,” wrote Modiadie on Instagram.

Not much is known about Nathaniel but he is not related to the South African Oppenheimers.

Pearl Modiadie sues SABC and Metro FM over sexual abuse claims – This is how much she is demanding

Former Metro FM midday show presenter Pearl Modiadie is demanding R3.5 million from the SABC and Metro FM programme manager Anthony Soglo for sexual harassment, which she allegedly suffered during her tenure at the public broadcaster.

Modiadie, who was employed at the station for five years as co-host of Lunch with Thomas and Pearl until her contract was not renewed earlier this year, filed her papers at the Johannesburg High Court last month.

In the papers, she alleged that the SABC failed to act against Soglo’s sexually aggressive behaviour and overtures towards her.

SABC group executive for corporate affairs and marketing Gugu Ntuli confirmed that the public broadcaster had been served with papers, but said that they did not discuss internal processes involving its employees in the public space.

“The SABC can confirm that the corporation was served with summons and intends to defend the action instituted. Our case will be pleaded in our court papers. We do not litigate through the media,” she said.

According to Modiadie’s court papers, Soglo wrote an email on November 28 2019 that seemingly insinuated that she was a sex object.

“Yo … Since we are there … can I also get asked that question? LOL!

When do [you] need Pearl and for how long?? Go Tumza … Pimpsta of the Year! Hahahaha … Sorry guys … That was just funny!

This appears to have followed Modiadie’s earlier email seeking clarity about being booked for a gig.

“I still haven’t received my flight details for Bloemfontein [for] Saturday and Sunday. I need these [as soon as possible] as I have other commitments I need to confirm.

“Payment also needs to be made before departure and I’d like to know when to expect it please.

“I’ve also received the DJ schedule without my name, when and how long I’m expected to be on stage for,” she wrote in her email.

“In making the aforesaid statements and/or overture and/or advances contained in the email, the second defendant [Soglo]:

Used the communication infrastructure or email communication of first defendant [SABC] acting during his scope of his employment with first defendant;
Knew that the words in the email were unwanted and unwelcome to plaintiff [Modiadie];
Was aware that the email content was not relating to a work-related official event; and
Knew that the content of the email would be in the public domain,” read Modiadie’s court papers.

She added that the SABC failed to protect her after she escalated the matter, which was a breach of the memorandum of agreement for her employment with the public broadcaster.

“The SABC and, in turn, Soglo were contractually bounded in favour of Modiadie to create a workplace that is free from sexual harassment, to protect her against sexual harassment being committed against her by any employee within the workplace … [to] protect her against sexual harassment being committed against her by Soglo … [and to] create a climate in the workplace in which second defendant would not sexually harass her…”

The papers added that despite Soglo’s apology, the matter had not been treated with any seriousness, in spite of a letter of demand being sent to the SABC in June.

[Soglo] threatened the plaintiff with legal action and endeavored to silence her. He considered the fact that his conduct was [said] in the public to be improper … therefore it is he who is a victim of harassment and/or a malicious campaign by Modiadie

“He considers her to have acted maliciously or that she has some ill intentions.”

Modiadie said she was aware that the SABC had appointed lawyers to defend her motion.

“I consider the SABC to be a powerful organisation that can direct and spearhead that which should not be accepted in society, and their actions so far have not indicated that they are an organisation that prevents and stands against acts of sexual harassment against women at its workplace,” she said.

So many of these cases are largely swept under the carpet and I’m incredibly disappointed that it seems to have become the norm, hence my decision to take the action that I took.

“It’s difficult to even begin to think about healing when no remorse has been shown and the person’s actions are being defended with no action being taken.”

The SABC and Soglo are still to respond to the papers.

Pearl announced the top 25 of the Mrs SA contestants over the weekend. Speaking of one of the outfits, which is coloured white and black, Pearl said:

“I felt regal when I tried on this dress with Gerrit and knew it deserved a queen moment. I remembered seeing this doek by @loulou_regal_style_official when I popped in at the Africa Rise store the other day and had to go back for the purchase. I panicked at the thought of tying it properly and Portia from the store called sis’ Lulu herself to give me an over the phone tutorial. I was delighted to have nailed it at the store, but with only 4 minutes to change into this entire outfit at the event, it wasn’t as Sis’ Lulu’s instruction but pretty close and I love it!”

Exposing her alleged abusive former manager at Metro FM was not enough for Pearl Modiadie so she has involved the law. The radio and TV personality is reportedly going to sue Metro FM for sweeping her s.e.xual harassment ordeal under the rug.

Sunday World reported that Pearl is pursuing legal action with the help of her lawyer to get justice. This after she lodged a complaint against her former manager to Metro FM’s former station manager, who ignored her cry. Last week, the publication reported that Pearl’s 5 year run at the radio station ended because of this incident as her contract was not renewed.

She recounted the numerous times she suffered at the hands of her former manager who made sexual remarks, which made her uncomfortable. When Sunday World questioned her about the incident she said it happened “more than once.”

She then further adds, “…reference was made about my body shape and how ‘sexy it is’. Uncomfortable sexual innuendos were thrown around during conversations, even in the presence of my now former colleagues.”

There was also an incident where I had posted a bikini picture on Instagram and he inappropriately brought up a conversation about that picture and how ‘hot I looked’,” she explained.

“The last sexual remark he made was in an e-mail that other staff members were copied on. I responded that it made me feel uncomfortable and that I was tired of the sexual harassment I was subjected to. This e-mail was sent during my radio show and only one of the guys copied stood up for me.

“He then apologised on e-mail and came down to studio to apologise in person. I was visibly upset and in tears! Even the celebrity guest who was present for his studio interview saw all of this. I felt violated and couldn’t even show up for work the next day.

“I had copied the then station manager in the e-mail and there was never a response from her. It was never addressed,” she said

On Twitter she confirmed that the incident did indeed take place, expressing how relieved she is now that the media exposed the manager. “I kept quiet for too long until media picked it up and never have I been grateful for that because it finally gave me the courage to speak out about the sexual harassment I was was subjected to at Metro FM.”

Last week the SABC issued a statement on social media but they received some backlash as well. “The SABC notes with concern media articles about the alleged sexual harassment case at Metro FM and the Tweet by Ms. Pearl Modiadie.

“The SABC views sexual harassment in a serious light and will use its internal policies and procedures to deal with this matter. The SABC encourages any employees subjected to sexual harassment to use the Corporation’s specific internal channels to report such cases,” the statement reads.

Pearl’s lawyer Mafona Ramothwala confirmed to the publication that they sent out a letter of demand, “We can confirm that legal action for damages was initiated through a letter of demand which was sent to the SABC on June 18 2021.”
