It has been a month since Nelisa Mchunu played a villain on TV but people are still calling her a murderer in the street.

Nelisa played Bazothini who kills her sister so she can marry her rich husband on Mzansi Magic’s Isisifiso.

The 30-year-old told the publication people were coming up to her every day.

“This is what people have always done to me. Back when I was on Uzalo, people thought I was my character in real life,” she said.

“Funny enough, it isn’t that bad because although people call me a murderer, they actually loved Bazo. It’s crazy as people aren’t supposed to like a character like that. So, it’s not always a bad encounter with fans.”

“I won’t lie, she was an intense character. She went through so many different emotions throughout the season. It was fun and challenging. It was so much fun playing a killer.”

Nelisa rose to fame playing Fikile on Uzalo for five years. She said the character she played on the SABC1 soapie was different to Bazo.

“The way I acted was pretty much the same but obviously, I had to channel different things because the characters are different.

“That was the only change, channelling different energies,” she said.

“Otherwise, I used the same mantra and the same way of getting into character. I needed a lot of emotions to play Bazo, so I had to dig deep.”

Fikile said she had a new movie coming out soon.

“I just wrapped up shooting a film and it’s probably going to come out next year,” she said.

The character of Fikile on Uzalo was allegedly written off with those of Mpambani (Jet Novuka) and MaNgcobo (Dawn Thandeka King), after producers couldn’t continue with her storyline.

But apparently Nelisa Mchunu, who plays Fikile on the SABC1 show, begged to be saved.

Sources said when Nelisa was informed of the decision of her character being killed off, she apparently begged producers to find a way to turn things around.

They said the producers tried hard to be creative in expanding Fikile’s storyline

“Nelisa loved playing Fikile. So she was heartbroken when she was told her character was going to end. She begged them not to do it. They tried but failed,” said an insider.

Fikile was last seen on the show on Tuesday when her parents visited her in KwaMashu. They found out she had lied to them about living a lavish lifestyle. They then went back home with her, leaving Sbu (Simphiwe Majozi) nursing a broken heart.

A second source said when Uzalo announced those that were exiting, they didn’t mention Nelisa because they were still trying to find a way to save her.

Nelisa refused to comment but on Uzalo’s Instagram page, she thanked her fans for being Fikile’s cheerleaders.

The show’s spokeswoman, Nomfundo Zondi, confirmed Nelisa’s departure.

“We didn’t announce her exit because her thing was on and off. Producers and writers were trying to see if they could continue with Fikile. They were not sure whether her storyline was continuing or not. That is why her exit was not announced,” said Nomfundo.

She said Fikile was not killed, which gives hope she might be coming back one day.

“Just like GC (Khaya Dladla) and Thobile (Nokuthula Mabika), viewers might see her one day,” said Nomfundo.
