Actress Mona Monyane has been on a journey of personal healing while encouraging other women to focus on their wellness, and she’s revealed how ubungoma helped her in her journey.

Mona took to Instagram, speaking of how accepting her spiritual journey helped her heal spiritually and emotionally.

“My journey of healing started with me answering my ancestral calling. I’ve learnt so much about African spirituality and it has only drawn me closer to God,” she wrote.

Speaking to a local publication, Mona said that though she had accepted her ancestral calling and went to a shrine, she does not practise as a “sangoma”.

“I have a prophetic gifting … I realised that I’m not here to practise as a sangoma. I’m a public figure in the entertainment industry but I can’t be in this industry without being my true authentic self, and my true authentic self is a woman of God, it’s a woman who speaks the word of life,” she said.

Mona says she hopes the conversation of wellness sparks conversation about people’s spiritual health too.

“Even when you marry someone who is extremely traditional and you kind of lose yourself, and people are kind of anti any spiritual conversation,” she said.

Mohale is not a victim, he also beat me up – Somizi breaks his silence on abuse allegations

Media personality Somizi Mhlongo has broken his silence about his marriage woes and the abuse allegations levelled against him by his estranged husband Mohale Motaung.

In a statement issued on Instagram, Somizi has addressed the abuse allegations that popped up earlier this week when a local publication reported that Mohale allegedly made the claims in an interview with producers of the reality show Living the Dream with Somizi.

Somizi’s management told the publication it was aware of the allegations, while Mohale or his management are yet to respond to any enquiries made by the publication.

Somizi has “vehemently denied” ever physically or emotionally abusing Mohale.

“Our relationship has had its ups and downs but I have never been physically or knowingly emotionally abusive towards my estranged husband. I vehemently deny the allegations of criminal acts towards him and would like to clear my name of that defamation.

“What I am going to state, however, is that we had one altercation in which I had to defend myself and both of us were physically hurt by the other. I am at this stage not at liberty to dive deeper into the details but can state that he is not a victim in this situation,” read part of the statement.

The Idols SA judge moved on to address the claims that he has sabotaged Mohale’s efforts to be financially independent before he also address the claims about their s.e.x life.

“I have been accused of sabotaging his efforts to be financially independent and can confirm that I have never made a concerted effort to block his networks. In fact I have encouraged it, I have even through my own channels petitioned for opportunities for him to make money through my networks and I’ve amplified some of the work he’s done through his campaigns.”

Somizi then added, “There have been publications of stories related to our sex life and a lot of what has been said is absolutely untrue. These are very personal matters and I would like to keep it as such.”

Somizi admitted that the reputational damage was affecting his work and ability to make money. He confirmed that he and Mohale are filing for divorce and that he only wishes for the process to be “finalised fairly and reasonably”.

Jacob Zuma seeks to drag those who benefited from arms deal with him

Former president Jacob Zuma has seemingly threatened to drag other parties into his arms deal corruption trial.

On Thursday afternoon, the Jacob G Zuma Foundation revealed that the former president’s legal team had written to “prominent organizations and foundations” who allegedly benefited from the arms deal in an effort to detail their involvement in the matter.

“The legal team of [former] president Zuma has dispatched letters to prominent organizations and foundations who benefited from the arms deal to provide pertinent details of the relevant transactions. These details will be tabled in the trial in PMB [Pietermaritzburg], to set the record straight at the right time,” the foundation said on Twitter.

Zuma back in court
This comes as the Pietermaritzburg High Court is set to hear Zuma’s special plea arguments in his arms deal corruption trial next week.

The trial and special plea application will now be heard in an open court rather than a virtual platform after Zuma’s legal team – advocates Dali Mpofu and Thabani Masuku – previously objected to the matter being heard physically.

The case, which involves Zuma and French arms firm company, Thales, is set to resume next Tuesday on 10 August 2021.

Last month, Judge Piet Koen – who presided over the proceedings – postponed the trial for three weeks after an application was brought forward by Zuma’s legal team.

Koen had also requested a list of considerations and prejudices from all parties involved – including Zuma’s lawyers, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and the department of correctional services – which they deem relevant to the judge’s decision to hold the Zuma’s special plea arguments on a virtual platform.

The high court on Tuesday is expected to hear Zuma’s special plea for the recusal of the NPA prosecutor, Billy Downer.

Recusal
During his last court appearance in May, Zuma pleaded not guilty and his legal team filed a special plea application to have Downer recused from prosecuting the case.

Zuma’s legal team said Downer had smeared their client’s name and leaked information related to the corruption case to the media.

The former president wants to be acquitted of all charges should his application for Downer to recuse himself succeed.

The NPA has since denied the allegations made against Downer.
