“To me, the bride: May you remain happy, knowing that The Lord is the source of your joy. You deserve everything good.” she wrote.

Previously speaking to TshisaLIVE, Thato said she met Frans through work and they have been inseparable since they started dating in 2018.

“From the time we were dating, he’s always been consistent and made me feel safe. I look forward to starting a family [with him] and living our private life. He’s the love of my life, the sweetest guy ever. I love him so much.” she said.

She prefers to not dish too much about her partner.

“Because I share so much of my life, that’s the only part I don’t want people to have an opinion on.”

“South Africa is a resilient country and our history speaks for itself that we have overcome so many things and this is one of the giants we will also overcome. I think the message that we got from each other is to stick together because we are all experiencing pain and if you see that someone is in need just lend a helping hand because people think I am not going to help everyone but that one makes a difference so for me it is about quality, not quantity,” she concluded.

The talented medical doctor will be representing South Africa at this Miss Supranational competition in Nowy Sacz, Poland.

Speaking about gracing the international pageant, Thato said she was honoured and proud to be starting the Miss Supranational journey under the Miss South Africa Organisation banner.

“The support from South Africans has been beautiful to see. It pushes me to do my best. I have developed great confidence in myself and my abilities. Keep me in your prayers. I hope to make you extremely proud,” she said.

She further said she had put in a lot of effort in her preparations ahead of the finale.

“I have had runway training as well as hair and make-up training sessions. I have been working closely with Miss South Africa creative director Werner Wessels in order to understand the essence of the pageant. I have developed and grown immensely.”

“I have had the opportunity of receiving life coaching, vocal preparation and current affairs training which will forever stay with me, even beyond the final night,” she said.

Thato also shared with the People’s Paper that her national costume has been designed by Sello Medupe, the owner of Scalo.

She said it was inspired by an African warrior princess with elements of her Sotho culture and heritage incorporated.

While her day wear outfits come from Willet Designs Couture, Malondie, Sheriff Taylor, Ernst Schutz and Juan William Aria, she said it was her evening gowns they were particularly meaningful to her.

“Some are from Kobus Rautenbach (which is really special because he made my matric farewell gown many years ago) and Anel Botha, who is also based in my home town, is the one making my evening gown and preliminary night gown among other evening gowns. I love my wardrobe. All these incredible South African designers have found a way to make me feel incredibly special.”

Thato also revealed that she couldn’t wait to represent South Africa on an international stage.

“However, I’m also thrilled to explore Poland as I’ve never been there as well as to meet like-minded women from all across the world.”

The pageant is set to start on Friday, 20 August and end on Sunday, 22 August.

Shudufhadzo Musida, who hails from Limpopo was crowned Miss SA 2020 and her second runner up is Natasha Joubert (23), from Pretoria, Gauteng. All three will represent the country at the world’s three most prestigious pageants. Previously, the Miss South Africa Organisation has sent a representative to both Miss Universe and Miss World, but will also now be fielding a candidate to Miss Supranational. It will only be revealed at a later date which contestant will go to which pageant.

We caught up with Dr. Thato at a press briefing hosted by the Miss SA organization in Cape Town, and she said empowering one another with opportunities, to build a society full of generous people is close to her heart.

“For me, my message will still be the same but, I think the organization has a responsibility to refine our messages in a more amplified and powerful way. My message is one of giving people opportunities I am who I am because people gave me opportunities,” echoed Dr Thato.

“South Africa is a resilient country and our history speaks for itself that we have overcome so many things and this is one of the giants we will also overcome. I think the message that we got from each other is to stick together because we are all experiencing pain and if you see that someone is in need just lend a helping hand because people think I am not going to help everyone but that one makes a difference so for me it is about quality, not quantity,”she states.

Dr. Thato is a medical Doctor, currently completing her internship at the Klerksdorp-Tshepong Hospital complex. The model obtained her MBCHB degree at the University of the Free State in 2018 and aims to become an anaesthesiologist one day.

The 25-year-old has received R250 000 in cash for being the first runner up. Dr. Thato reckons that Miss SA is not only about beauty, but it is about changing the mindset of several people and building a society full of empowered people.

“It is important for men to start dealing with a world full of empowered women. Gender-Based Violence is on the rise because certain men feel insecure, they have mental issues they are still dealing with, platforms like this open up for men to change for women to do great things and take up space and highly influence,” she says. Having been inspired by former Miss SA Marilyn Ramos, who also comes from the Klerk, Dr. Thato is no stranger to beauty pageants. The model has won Miss Environment (Campus pageant) 2018 and she was also Miss Mamelodi Sundowns 1st Princess (National Pageant).

During her speech at the pageant finale, Thato said “My accolades alone will never make me worthy of this crown, I am proud of them but I understand that they are a direct result of me being exposed to certain opportunities, which is why I believe in the power of matching up opportunities to God-given potential as your next Miss South Africa, I will be the bridge that narrows the gap between opportunities and our given potential,” she said.

Dr. Thato is set to take over the duties of Miss South Africa should the need arise.

Congratulations to her.
