The Real Reason Muvhango And 7de Laan Are Being Cut

Fans are furious that their favourite SABC 2 soapies, Muvhango and 7de Laan have been cut but they’re not watching them.

The SABC is currently retrenching staff and financially struggling to air shows that only bring lukewarm ratings.

A petition isn’t going to save a show that’s been struggling to reach 2 million views for more than half a decade.

Let’s face it 7de Laan hasn’t been the same since the departure of Paula Van Der Lecq, Oom Oubaas, Matrone, Hilda and many more characters that made the show.

It’s not just the loss of its actors that caused the decline in ratings but the storyline have gotten dark and dodgy! The show used to have a spark… used to make people happy and want to learn Afrikaans because it was fun.

Times have changed, viewers won’t put up with boring storylines, they are not forced to watch a show because it’s on a free channel…they have options!

Muvhango’s lost its 5million view- mark a few months ago and has been drowning. The show has roped in musicians like Makhadzi and ShoMadjozi and bringing in bootylicious actresses to try to salvage whatever is left of it.

Times are hard for the Venda soapie which is still the most watched show on SABC2 with 3million views.

After years of playing the same script: Azwindini was a chief for over a decade and only got dethroned this year because of the decline in ratings…is it too late? They lost great actresses such as Sindi Dlathu who plays Lindiwe Dikana on The River, Buhle Samuels who played Matshidiso and is also acting alongside The Fergusons on Kings of Joburg.

Muvhango’s Marang Questionable Acting

Muvhango’s Marang Questionable Acting

Muvhango's Marang Questionable Acting

Is Muvhango’s Marang still battling with her role or is she just an Ice Queen?

In an emotional scene last night, the actress could barely shed a crocodile tear when she realised that she almost shot her fiancé, James Motsamai. In that scene, the actress is seen hiding her face with her hands because she couldn’t master a single tear and opted to hide her face till the director yelled cut to the next scene.

Marang almost shot James last night because she thought he was an intruder. She’s been suffering from PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) since the burglary at MMC buildings and opted to buy a gun instead of seeing a psychologist.

It’s so typical of the show to cast only beautiful actresses: with the exception of Buhle Samuels who played Matshidiso who’s just exited the show for greener pastures. She was spectacular in Netflix’s Kings of Joburg!

Fans of the show have been complaining about Marang since she debuted and there’s still minimal improvement. She debuted the soapie with an American English accent, then toned down the English and spoke more Tswana, but kept the catwalk.

There are several actors on the show, who are given main roles but give the audience nothing to ring home about, which has resulted in the show losing millions of viewers throughout the years. Other characters include Mbali and the new Hulisani.

The current storyline: Marang will probably get back together with her ex-fiancé. KK Mulaudzi because her relationship with James Motsamai has been downhill since the burglary. She’s also been keeping a lot of secrets from James…she’s becoming as dangerous as Modiehi (James Motsamai’s ex-wife). Modiehi owned a gun and got along with KK! She’s messing up the relationship by spending time more time with KK.

Here are some reactions from Facebook regarding Marang:

“She can’t, she bores me to death but at the end of the day, she gets the money for whatever she’s doing on Muvhango.”

“I don’t know if it her as a person or her character on the show but something is off.”

“Marang can surely act, she is aware of the cameras and seems like she’s struggling, nothing is normal in her acting. If u look at her co-actors, u can see the difference between there acting and hers.”

“Wa zama mara role ya gage ya bhora. (She’s trying but her role is boring)”

She’s been compared to Tumi and Lindani from The River and Katlego Peterson and Cindy from Skeem Saam by fans.

Watch: Muvhango actor Dingaan Mokebe (ka Khumalo) warns Mzansi women not to play hard to catch

Actor Dingaan Mokebe (ka Khumalo) has warned women not to play hard to get as they might live to regret it, and advised men not to be scared to shoot their shot.

The Muvhango actor dropped some words of wisdom and dating advice in a video he shared on Instagram where he posed a question about why men and women never go for who they want.

In the video dubbed as his DSK Diaries, Dingaan started asking men why they always had cold feet when it came to asking out their crush, and finding out later that their crush liked them too.

“So, gents tell me, have you ever had a crush on a girl but you are so scared to talk to this girl because you’re thinking ‘if I tell this girl she might not speak to me ever again’, or have you ever had a crush on a girl and was scared to talk to her only to find out that she also had the crush for you?

“And then you only realise later on when she’s taken or when you’re taken and you talk to her and you tell her of the time you wanted her but was scared to tell her. And then she says to you: ‘Why didn’t you talk cause I also liked you too?’ Have you ever been in that situation?”

He switched the script and then asked women why they are never honest about their feelings for a man who wanted them, but rather “played hard to get”.

“Ladies, have you ever played hard to get knowing very well that you want this guy but you played hard to get? And then when he was no longer interested and was with somebody else, that’s when you wanted him but he was no longer available?

“Has something like that ever happened to you? I’m just thinking why do we have to complicate life like that? Why do you like playing hard to get?”

He also made mention of women who held off doing on things because they were worried they might be perceived as an easy woman.

“Why do you care what he thinks of you. I mean, both of you are adults. Why do you play hard to get? Please, ladies, let me know, have you ever played hard to get and regretted it later?

“Maybe the guy you wanted is with somebody else and you see that he’s living a very nice like and you’re like, eish, that could’ve been my life right there.”

I was scared to tell people that I'm Zambian: Muvhango's Vusi opens up on Xenophobia in South Africa

Raphael Griffiths who popularly known as Vusi, a role he played for five years on Muvhango has revealed that he was afraid to speak about his heritage because he was petrified of xenophobic South Africans.

I was scared to tell people that I'm Zambian: Muvhango's Vusi opens up on Xenophobia in South Africa

” Yes, I am half Zambian. My dad is Zambian. He is from Kitwe. Some of my family is still there in Zambia. Some have married guys from Botswana, some are married to Namibians, and some are married to Zimbabweans, others to Malawians.

My great-grandma from my father side was originally Portuguese. She had a bit of Angolan descent. They moved to Zambia, and that’s how my grandma came about. She married a Zambian man, and that’s how my Dad came about. My Dad married a Zulu woman and that’s how I came about. I am an African. It’s a nice mix.”

Despite being proud of his ancestry and heritage, the multi-talented actor said that he was scared to tell people that he is half-Zambian because he did not feel comfortable with how some xenophobic South Africans treated foreigners.

Speaking in an interview with Kiki Nembhard Raphael said that he was unsure that he would still be welcomed and loved if he revealed that his father is Zambian. Vusi was afraid that xenophobic South Africans would say that he is one of the foreigners taking over the jobs meant for South Africans.

Is Muvhango getting cancelled?

Everyone’s alleged favorite Sunday newspaper led with the story that SABC 2’s most watch show, “Muvhango,” might be on the way to closing its doors permanently if things do not change fast

For the past five years the national broadcaster, South African Broadcaster (SABC) has been wielding its chopping powers by axing some of our favourite nostalgic shows. First it was John and Malena on “Days of our Lives,” then it was no Brooke and Ridge love triangle on “The Bold and the Beautiful.” But things started getting really sad when the axe was directed to some of our favourite nostalgic local content.

Is Muvhango getting cancelled?

First we lost “the best of the good life” and our weekly dose of “good evening and God bless,” when “Top Billing” was axed. What followed after the ending of the popular magazine show was the announcement that Horizon Deep would be no more, as SABC 3 announced the end of “Isidingo: the Need.” All of the aforementioned shows were axed due to a considerable drop in viewership numbers.

Is Muvhango getting cancelled?

But now there is the suggestion that SABC 2’s Muvhango is also on the way to bidding farewell. It is alleged that for the past five years the most watched television program in SABC 2 has been struggling to rekindle its glory days of high viewership numbers. That means that for the past five years, the soapie has been attempting to recapture its 15 years at being at the top as the leading program on SABC 2.

The decline is set to have started when acclaimed television writer, Phathu Makwarela left the soapie as Head Writer, and landed on Mzansi Magic’s “The Queen.” Phathu is clearly the name with the midas touch considering how when he is dedicated to a show it trends and captures the attention of television lovers. But when he leaves for greener pastures like “The River,” where he left starts to wilt.

But the departure of Phathu was not the only devastating blow that Muhango experienced. The departure and unclear death or something of the beloved character, Thandaza, played by Sindi Dlathu ended an era for the soapie. While Sindi and Phathu might be winning with “The River,” it seems that those they left behind might be in some trouble.

Muvhango: Matshidiso in trouble as an old face returns

Muvhango: Matshidiso in trouble as an old face returns

Muvhango: Matshidiso in trouble as an old face returns

Wicked schemer Matshidiso (Buhle Samuels) has been on her guard for months when she’s around her boyfriend KK (Macdonald Tshifhiwa Ndou).

The businessman’s mood can change at the drop of a hat and he isn’t the kind of person you toy with, more so when you’ve betrayed him like Matshidiso. But this fortnight, there’s someone else to give Matshidiso sleepless nights: Dr Kutlwano (Lehasa Moloi). The pair ended 2019 as “business partners”, using Kutlwano’s medical knowledge to poison KK and trick him into signing over his fortune to Matshidiso in the belief that he was dying. “But Kutlwano became obsessed with her and before fleeing Thathe, he tried to shoot Matshidiso,” says Lehasa, who claims that his character is a changed man.

BACK FOR A CAUSE

Kutlwano slinks back into town, making sure that Matshidiso isn’t alerted to his presence as he’s not sure where their friendship stands. Instead, he moves into a local informal settlement with his new bestie Pinkie (Hloni Padi, Kea in sitcom Single Galz, 2014-2018), who tells him that he should put his healing skills to good use in the poor community. “She suggests a clinic as the hospital is far away,” says Lehasa. “That would be illegal, but Kutlwano is a healer and his cause is helping people.” Pinkie gives him her full support, while Hloni jokes it’s because she wants to be famous in the community. “Kutlwano is a doctor and Pinkie is a bit of a diva. Pinkie stays in the settlement, but she dreams big. She thinks that ‘rich doctor’ Kutlwano can give her her dreams.”

A DRASTIC TURN

In a moment of self reflection, the doctor tells Pinkie that he is a wanted man and he explains the KK scheme. He also tells Pinkie that Matshidiso paid him R5 million to leave and never speak of their deal. Later and purely by chance, Kutlwano and Matshidiso bump into each other. While he is all smiles, the look on her face is terror. “Matshidiso fears that he’s back to spill the beans and tell KK what they did,” explains Lehasa. It’s anything but that, adds the actor. “When Kutlwano sees Matshidiso, his old feelings come rushing back and he’s overwhelmed with obsession for ‘ the one who got away’.” Pinkie notices the change in his behaviour and when her seductive charms don’t work, she realises that to keep her love interest, Matshidiso must go. Thanks to Kutlwano’s confession session, she has the ammo to do just that. If she can prove everything to KK, that is…
