He’s not getting anything, not even a toothpick: Somizi on Mohale wanting 50% of his estate

South African star media personality, Somgaga aka Somizi Mhlongo seeked legal advice over his estate amid his ongoing divorce from Mohale Motaung — on the first episode of the fifth season of his reality series which aired on Wednesday 4 May.

Somizi met with Hopewell Sathekge at Signature restaurant in Sandton to seek legal advice on his ongoing divorce. The pair tied the knot at their traditional wedding in September 2019 and held their white wedding in January 2020.

However, they decided to go their separate ways after Mohale accused Somizi of physically and psychologically abusing him in audio clips leaked by a local publication in August 2021. Somizi revealed that he did not sign anything when he got married to Mohale.

“Okay where does this put me. (Because) one we didn’t sign,” asked the media personality.

So, you didn’t do an ANC (antenuptial contract) and you didn’t go to Home Affairs?” responded Sathekge.

“At the white wedding. Again, I will go back to you know, you know and I knew with the marriage there would be challenges naturally. But there are challenges where you can see that this is going to hell,” said Somizi.

“So, when they told us that the pastor didn’t bring the certificates I was like look at God!” he continued.

“Before you get a divorce you first have to prove that you’re married. So, most of the time hetrosexual couples would then have affidavits or a letter that records the lobola prize and all these sort of things,” said Sathekge.

Sathekge went on to say that Somgaga can only be divorced once it is proved that he was married.

Does Somizi want to give Mohale 50% of his estate? No!

“Is he going to get anything from this? They usually say over my dead body but I’m not dying anytime soon so over this fabolous homosexual 97-year-old body. Zilch. Not even a toothpick,” he said.

He then asked if he would also have to share his debt with Mohale and Sathekge said yes, to which he replied “hallelujah!” explaining that he had so many. So, will the Idols SA judge be obligated to give Mohale 50% of his estate? Well Sathekge said that if it is proven that Somhale was married, then Mohale would be entitled to the 50%.

“If you are married, your estranged husband, we’ll call him that, is entitled to 50% of your estate by virtue of being married,” said Sathekge.

South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo opened up about the red flags within his marriage to Mohale Motaung on the first episode of the fifth season of his reality series – Living the Dream with Somizi which aired on Showmax on Wednesday (4 May).

Somizi addressed Mohale’s “confessions” inform of leaked audio clips by Sunday World — in the first episode of the fifth season of his reality show. Somizi said that when he thinks back on his marriage there was always red flags. He explained that they would appear to be happy in the public eye but Mohale would allegedly “start drama” and leave.

“There were so many red flags. I could be launching an endorsement and there will be drama, unnecessarily. We could be at the Durban July, the most beautiful day where we are walking together hand-in-hand – in the evening at the afterparty there will be drama and he leaves,” he said.

The media personality went on to say that his friends would notice that Mohale would not sleep at home. So, he thinks that there was a tactic behind it.

“My friends would notice that he – Mohale didn’t sleep at home. Like we would be together at my Zimbali home – he wouldn’t be home. He would have slept out because he was angry,” he continued.

“So, looking back it has been part of the tactic,” he added.

Somizi’s reality show Living the Dream with Somizi is set to premiere on 4 May and judging by the trailer, it will be even bigger and more dramatic. One thing fans are all looking forward to is Somizi Mhlongo speaking about his divorce from estranged husband Mohale Motaung.

Every single aspect about their divorce will be discussed including the alleged assault, division of Somizi’s assets and many more. In the new season his entire family including his daughter Bahumi Mhlongo and baby mama Palesa Madisakwane will be featured.

Other people in the reality show include Somizi’s friends Lorcia Cooper, Vusi Nova and Shauwn Mkhize.

Lorcia wants to know whether Somizi hit Mohale or not and MamMkhize slams Mohale for wanting half of his assets.

Best believe, nothing will be off-limits and Showmax Candice Fangueiro, head of content said in a statement that they wanted to balance everything since they showed their lovely much-talked-about union.

“His wedding special, Somizi & Mohale: The Union, was the union of the year and set a then-record for the most first-day views on Showmax at launch. Having told the story of the wedding, which appeared to many almost like a fairytale, for balance we wanted to explore everything that followed,” she said.

When questioned about how he feels about Somizi laying their private affairs bare, Mohale told a local publication. it is his truth and if he feels like it, he can say whatever he wants.

“I think he should address what he feels like he wants to. We are divorcing, so it’s already out there. It is his truth and I believe that everybody must be free to say what they want.”

Mohale unintentionally aired their nasty split in a recording where he said Somizi threatened him with a kitchen knife. “I took my keys and walked out, he took a knife. I was about to exit, so he said to me, ‘if you exit… I’m going to kill us both.’ So I took my keys and ran. He grabbed the knife and said ‘if you walk out, I’m going to stab you.’ Now I see a different person. I was sh*t scared and walked back into the house. He said ‘let’s talk.’ He cried and we moved on,” he said.

Mohale then released a statement and said, “I did in fact experience abuse at the hands of my estranged husband both physical and psychological. It is not my wish to seesaw my experience against his as he only has his conscience to reckon with.”

Somizi in his version of events denied this, “Never in my wildest dreams did I think that one day I would have to defend my honor as a result of someone I have loved so deeply and so genuinely deliberately harming a reputation I’ve worked so hard to build. For the most parts of my life, I’ve kept my relationships out of the public eye until my one and only marriage which you witnessed on television and other social media.”

We certainly cannot wait for the reality show to begin!

Podcaster MacG has taken a swipe at Mohale Motaung’s career and he probably left a bitter taste in his mouth. During one of Podcast and Chill with MacG’s episodes, the podcaster poked fun at Mohale, saying he thinks he is the person he believes he is, but he’s not.

“I think Mohale thinks that he is the guy that he is not,” he said. When Sol Phenduka asked him to shed more light. MacG threw the biggest shade at Mohale saying he thinks he is a superstar, but he is not.

“He thinks he is a superstar, he is a celebrity and he’s not. He’s literally the guy that dated Somizi, that’s what we know him for.” Sol Phenduka went on to say that Mohale’s legacy was marrying Somizi.

He asserted that Somizi is talented and has a lot of career moves to his credit but Mohale doesn’t. He said Somizi has hosted a number of awards shows, and he was on Sarafina, but we didn’t know Mohale prior to their relationship.

Recently, Somizi and Mohale made headlines once again after Sunday World revealed Mohale pleaded with his estranged spouse Somizi Mhlongo to mediate the divorce settlement process. Mohale’s plea was rejected by Somizi, and the matter will go to court.

Mohale did not want Somizi to air their laundry in public but Somizi is adamant he wants the matter to be heard in court. “Motaung had previously said that he did not want anything from their joint estate, except the clothes that he left in their matrimonial house in Fourways and a car that Mhlongo allegedly damaged in one of their violent domestic tiffs. On the other hand, Mhlongo wants division of their joint estate,” a source told the publication.

In a recording that was leaked last year Mohale made some startling allegations about Somizi. He alleged that he was abusive both physically and emotionally.

In the clip, Mohale can heard saying Somizi was controlling, “It was mainly about work, the friends that I made which he didn’t like,” he said, which the interviewer asked him if he was referring to The Fergusons, and he answered, “they are part of the list yes,” he said. “There are certain people he wouldn’t want me to converse with, maybe if we are at the club. Or maybe people he has a history with or people he does not like.”

On the alleged fight, he said, “I took my keys and walked out, he took a knife.

Somizi denied the claims and said they are tarnishing his reputation, “Never in my wildest dreams did I think that one day I would have to defend my honor as a result of someone I have loved so deeply and so genuinely deliberately harming a reputation I’ve worked so hard to build. For the most parts of my life, I’ve kept my relationships out of the public eye until my one and only marriage which you witnessed on television and other social media.

Breakups can be tough, especially for high profile couples, like our celebrities. And more often than not, fans tend to take celeb breakups almost as hard as the couple itself. The result is a lot of pressure on the celebs from their fans, to get back together with their ex, which we imagine can get draining for them pretty fast. I mean, they broke up for a reason, and it must hurt for your ex’s name to be brought up to you every five minutes, don’t you think?
