One of the most contentious topics of late concerning our South African Celebs is the alarming rate of leading media personalities taking to social media to confirm that they have accepted their callings. A fact recently landed Khanyi Mbau in trouble when she shared her feelings on the matter.

“You don’t have a calling, it’s anxiety!” exclaimed Khanyi Mbau.
Her statement ruffled a few feathers however many people seem to agree with her.

“This is the most anxious generation,” she started off. “That’s why we have so many sangomas… Urban sangomas,” she added.

Khanyi then went on to say that anxiety is so wild, people will end up hearing drums. She then advised people to laugh it off when they have such panic attacks because they are not alone.

“Laugh it off, you aren’t alone just get magnesium and a bit of sun B12 and have sea moss. That’s the only sea you need.”

While there is already a long list of ZAlebs that have accepted the calling from Boity, Zodwa Wabantu, Dineo Ranaka, and most recently Phelo Bala. Hulisani Ravele caused confusion with her latest video and post on social media.

Is Hulisani Ravele also a sangoma?
Monday, 8 May 2023, marked Ancestors Day according to Hulisani Ravele. As such, the child star turned seasoned MC and broadcaster shared a video that saw her dressed in stereotypically traditional healing garb while praying by the side of a riverbank.

As such, she was questioned on whether she was a traditional healer or not. While she did not answer the question, she did respond by writing:

“…What makes you say I’m a Sangoma? Is it the cloth? Is it the fact that ngiyaphahla? And please, don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a Sangoma either, and if I had reached that stage in my life and level in my journey I wouldn’t be ashamed of it. I’m just really interested in how you drew your conclusions.

Anyway, phahla is not an act reserved only for healers. Clothes are not exclusive to healers. Just because you wear safety boots and a hard hat doesn’t qualify you as an Engineer. I hope that helps you a little.”

Moreover, she explained the context of the video by writing:

“The video was taken unknowingly by a friend whilst I was on holiday in Morocco. I liked the video and I’ve chosen to share a snippet of it because whilst you’re correct, it is best that connecting with your people is a private thing, we are also living in a time of unlearning the conditioning of our colonial history, and re-learning the ways of our people.

This for me is knowledge sharing, a way of giving a window into a way of life described with a lot of negativity and filled with naysayers, finger-pointers, and condescending questioners who believe THEIR way is the only way and that THEIR beliefs are the only right ones. l share this so that those with wonder and anxiety about following the ways of their culture and ancestors can feel a little more free to do so, even when a Nancy questions them, ridicules them and seeks to make them doubt their path.”

Radio personality and presenter Hulisani Ravele questioned Kwazulu-Natal government why they pledged to support Mandla ‘Mampintsha’ Maphumulo’s funeral. She took her demands for answers on Twitter where she counted various reasons why she believed that tax payers money should not be used to send-off of the Kwaito star. Mampintsha died on Christmas Eve, last week December at King Edward Hospital after he suffered from a stroke.

On Wednesday, Kwazulu-Natal premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube announced that the premier office together with eThekwini Municipality would work together to provide financial support for the musicians’ funeral.

The star’s memorial was held today at eThekwini Community Church (ECC) and his funeral will be held tomorrow 30 December at Durban International Convention Centre. While many applauded the governments generosity, the radio presenter did not see any reason for it. She tweeted,

“Um, why is the government paying for a citizen’s funeral? A citizen who was not an official, not killed by any accident, catastrophe, natural event, or anything that would warrant the spending of taxpayer’s money?”

Ravele tagged the presidency’s Twitter page and asked them to “provide supporting legislation” but they did not reply.

According to Times Live, although Ravele did not use Mampintsha’s name, she did say that there were other ways to honor creatives who have passed on.

Twitter users were not all completely on board with Ravele’s views on the matter. While a few agreed with her, most of them shared that they agreed that government was not doing anything wrong, saying that Huli did not know what she was tweeting about.

According to the posts shared on her Instagram, she has stayed there for over a week clearly telling, she is enjoying the country. Hulisani has been detailing each and everyday experience she’s having out there and her followers love it for her.

On the first day she shared:

“Morocco, Day 1:

Last Saturday, I landed safely in Casablanca to begin my 9-day Moroccan adventure with 12 strangers! ? I chose a group trip because I wanted to travel “solo” but I’m scared to travel alone (blame it on too many episodes of FBI, CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds etc ?), so traveling with a group of strangers was a great compromise.

EVERYTHING was amazingly organized by @dalani_travel, from visas to itinerary, I just had to pay and show up! ?

After landing in Casablanca, we drove to our first stop, Marrakesh. We stayed in a stunning riad, @leriadnayanour, inside the Medina (meaning Old Town), a truly Moroccan experience! Day 1 was about settling in and getting to know one another over our first delicious Moroccan feast. We were off to a great start! ??”

Fast forward to Day 7 in Morocco, it seems Miss Ravele is not leaving the fun country as yet, she wrote:

“Morocco, Day 7:

A new day, a new city, Fès. A city our guide described as “the spiritual and intellectual capital of Morocco”.

Started the day in another beautiful riad. This place made me understand why the super rich have doors and other architectural marvels flown in from other countries to add to their homes.

We had such a rich, guided tour of the Medina (the old town). It left me with a heightened understanding and respect for the Islam religion and the deep sense of community that Muslims have. One of the ladies even commented that Islam is one of the few religions where the beliefs directly match the actions and the way of life of most of the people. I couldn’t agree more.

Our stop at the leather tannery, a place where animal skins are tanned and made into leather, is a must-do when in Morocco. The smell of the hides is quite something, which is why you’re given mints leaves as you head in, but watching the process is well worth it!

It was a few short hours in Fès and then we were back on the road heading to our next city, Chefchaouen – Morocco’s Blue City. ?”

Though there’s a long list of people who agree with her statement, some tweeps have suggested on social media that the media personality put on weight due to her ex-boyfriend of ten years getting hitched late last year.

She re-tweeted and posted a long message on social media that got everyone asking, who’s she’s referring to: She was dragged by tweeps last year and started trended just after her ex-boyfriend, Sidwell “Pysfo” Ngwenya announced that he now a married, to his girlfriend of three years, Amira.

Sidwell’s broke the news on his social media with photos of their wedding day and tweeps reminded him again on his previous ’10 year relationship’ with Hulisani or CC as she was previously called.

Ravele ignored the trolls and continued to preach love and care in a sweet tweet which read:

We need to learn to not always negatively interpret and analyse someone’s actions as an indication of our value or worth to them. Sometimes their actions are what is saving them and holding them together, sometimes their actions are exactly the breath of fresh air they so desperately need to strengthen their soul.”

Ravele also previously cleared the air about her previous relationship on an interview with MacG that she doesn’t feel like she wasted 10 years of her life, as tweeps imply. MacG asked her: “Don’t you feel like he wasted 10 years of your time?” to which she replied

“No, what’s the waste? Here’s the problem, when you set your benchmark and goal as marriage, kids and a house, you are not enjoying what it is right now. And I find that for so many of us because the goal is not at a relationship level, just as relating to one another as humans. It’s until I have a ring on it, it’s not real. So what are you doing? At the end of the day, for me, a marriage is a relationship that just has a certificate attached to it.

Ex-YOTV presenter Hulisani Ravele has pleaded with the universe to get a boyfriend in 2021. Ravele who dated producer, musician, and actor, Sydwell ‘Pysfo’ Ngwenya for 10 years is still single and unmarried.

The two child-stars who dated during their YOTV days broke up after Psyfo met his current wife; Amirah. Psyfo dated Amira for three years before proposing marriage and the two got married last month.

Ravele wrote: ‘Good people, thusang single gal toe! Do we buy birthday gifts for crushes..? #AskingForAFriend‘

She also tweeted:

“My New Year’s Eve wishlist, BBB: Brown Sugar, A boy, and Bubbles. I know you hear me universe. Pretty please and thank you.”

The TV presenter replied to her tweet from last year and tweeted: “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try and try again. Dear Universe, my message doesn’t seem to have reached you last year and here I am again, asking nicely… Thanks!”

The fact that Ngwenya and his wife dated for just over three years before they became husband and wife didn’t sit well with some Tweeps as they believe he wasted Ravele’s time during their 10-year relationship.

Hulisani, however, doesn’t feel like his ex wasted her time as her fans suggest. She addressed this during an interview with Mac G last year.

Ravele stated: “He has an amazing heart, he’s a kindhearted person that genuinely means the best.”

When asked why they broke up, Ravele said: “Life happened,”

And no, she doesn’t feel like her time was wasted in the relationship. “At the end of the day, for me, a marriage is just a relationship that just has a certificate attached to it.” She added that they did speak about marriage. “People grow apart, it happens,” she said.

In case you’re wondering, it wasn’t a bad breakup.

Here’s to hoping that things turn around for Ravele in 2021!
