Tipcee speaks on rumours she’s broke after allegedly dumping DJ Tira

South African singer Tipcee has responded to rumours of being down and out telling a local publication that the rumours are false. Following a report from ZiMoja, Tipcee started trending with sources alleging that she is broke after leaving Tira’s Afrotainment. The dancer said they are nothing but false rumours and that she is still signed to Tira’s label.

Speaking to the online publication, Tipcee said, “No it’s not true, and I’m dropping a single soon, and then an EP. The rumours have been trending since yesterday. There was this one friend of mine who was stirring up trouble.”

In addition to blaming her friend, Tipcee said she is still living in her home and Afrotainment is even advertising her music.

“I’ve been with Afrotainment for five years, even on Instagram the new song is there. I’m all right, I’m alive. I’m at Westville in my home. Everything was fine until this thing yesterday,” she said.

The friend told Zimoja Lezinto that Tipcee does not even have R2000, “Tipcee left because she wasn’t feeling appreciated, and she wanted to teach them a lesson. She felt she was invisible, and she could do it on her own, forgetting that the music industry is not easy,” her friend alleged. “It’s very difficult to get bookings and worse if you are not in Tira’s corner.”

“She is now learning how much admin goes into building an artist and how much costs are involved. Yes, she might be seeing all the money from bookings, but the bookings are few and far between,” the source added.

“People are starting to talk about her borrowing money from friends and family. She doesn’t have a cent, she is borrowing R2000 from people. I am worried because when she was good, she took care of people and gave them money but now that it is her turn, people are quick to gossip about how she is borrowing money. She is a mom after all and needs to keep her dignity intact.”

Tipcee spoke highly of Tira in a previous interview with a local publication saying he gave her a chance when it was hard getting into the industry.

“At first it was hard‚ I mean all of sudden there were a lot of people interested in my work. People who loved me and some who didn’t. Then there was the media but Tira trained me well. I am here to stay. As a brand‚ I know who I am and I know what to share and what not to share.”

“I’ve known Tira for a while‚ he’s always kind of been a guide in my life. I met him a long time ago while I was a promo girl for an alcohol brand. Around 2009‚ he knew I had an interest in music. Fast forward to a couple of years ago‚ I began doing vocals for Big Nuz and even some of his songs then he saw potential in me,” Tipcee said.

Tipcee allegedly dumps DJ Tira

Things are reportedly not looking good for Durban-based Gqom artist Thobeka “Tipcee” Ndaba, after reportedly leaving DJ Tira’s record label Afrotinment.

In the past, Tipcee has blessed the nation with several hits, including Fakaza and Iscathulo, but in recent years her music career has not been doing well after parting ways with Afrotainment.

According to Zimoja Lezinto, the Fakaza hitmaker left the label to pursue a career as an independent artist because she felt unappreciated.

However, it seems the move has backfired as her career is not doing well. A friend told Zimoja that the new venture is not easy for the musician who thought that leaving Afrotainment was a smart move.

“Tipcee left because she wasn’t feeling appreciated, and she wanted to teach them a lesson. She felt she was invisible, and she could do it on her own, forgetting that the music industry is not easy,” her friend told ZiMoja.“

The friend further said that Tipcee has been struggling to secure bookings and it’s difficult to do so when you are no longer in DJ Tira’s corner.

“It’s very difficult to get bookings and worse if you are not in Tira’s corner.”

Another mole told the publication that Tipcee has been borrowing money from friends because things are tough.

DJ Tira confirmed to Zimoja that the artist had left his label but refused to comment further, adding that Tipcee is a sister to him.

On January 19, Tipcee shared a post on her Instagram account where she was promoting DJ Tira’s new cider, Bearings. DJ Tira launched the cider in December 2022.

DJ Tira’s artist Tipcee dupes event organiser of R15 000

Afrotainment‘s fading star Thobeka “Tipcee” Ndaba has been labelled as a crook.

This after she allegedly lied to an event organizer Sbongile “Zykes” Magida and promised to bring the Afrotainment team to the Underground Pub in Mount Frere, Eastern Cape.

“She was having a birthday tour and we agreed to host her at our venue. We were communicating with her since early January. The event was to take place on Saturday, 4 February, so we started advertising the event. She charged us R15 000 and she wanted to be paid upfront,” said Zykes.

“On Thursday, 19 January, we paid her R7 500 and decided to withhold the balance. A week later, she insisted that she wants all her money. But we didn’t pay her because she sounded too desperate. We were scared that she might not come. We assured her that we’ll pay her after her performance, but she wouldn’t listen. She said the Afrotainment team was looking forward to this gig and she needed to pay them. On Thursday, 2 February, we paid her the balance. We also asked her to arrive in the afternoon so that she could perform early and she agreed,” explained Zykes.

But Tipcee never arrived, instead she allegedly kept on lying.

“On the morning of the event, I called Tipcee and she said they were loading their bags in the tour bus and they were preparing to leave Durban. A few hours later, I called again and she said they were on the road. The event started and people were paying at the gate hoping to see the Afrotainment team, but they never arrived. I sent her text messages and she kept on lying.

Eventually, I gave up. As a result, I had to refund people because Tipcee lied and never pitched,” said Zaykes.

“Now I want my money back. I have texted her but she gave me attitude. I also realised that she lied about the whole thing. She never spoke to her colleagues at Afrotainment.

She actually scammed me. She’s a crook. I also want to warn other event organisers to be careful of her. She is not to be trusted. I am coming forward because in the end, event organisers get slammed for other people’s behaviour,” said Zykes.

Sizwe Mdlalose, who was supposed to be on this birthday tour, said: “I did not pitch because something was not right.”

Sparks Wabantwana said: “I saw my name and photo on the poster, but I knew nothing about the gig. Tipcee took the money and she told me nothing about this gig. I am hurt because she used my name without permission.”

Costa Dollah said: ” I was on the poster, but I knew nothing about this gig. I also know that Tipcee was paid but this was never communicated to me.”

Tipcee was contacted, but she refused to comment. All she could say was, “Eish, nxa”

Load shedding delays DJ Tira’s wife, Gugu Khathi’s assault case

It’s been four years since DJ Tira’s wife Gugu Khathi, was accused of assault by her old neighbor Cindy O’Neil, and she has taken to social media to share an update regarding the case.

The businesswoman revealed on Wednesday 25 January, that the case was postponed due to load shedding. Gugu shared a video of herself inside a car and said the case is still ongoing four years later.

“Today was meant to be the last day of court, a four-year-long procession. State versus Cindy Oneal, my neighbor.”

”I think you guys remember the story very well. We have been at it for some time now,” Gugu said.

“We were supposed to hear judgment against Miss Cynthia O’Neil. Guys this load-shedding thing. Can you meet us halfway? I can’t. I need results. I need this case behind me. I need to clear my name. I need to move on with my life.” she wrote.

Mampintsha’s sister, Pinky Gumede’s emotional message to DJ Tira

It was a sad and emotional day as KZN artists visited Mampintsha’s family.

On Thursday, 19 January, KZN artists including DJ Sox, producer and vocal artist Mondli Ngcobo, DJ Sjerere, former Idols SA winner Noma Khumalo, Ukhozi FM sports presenter Irvin Sihlophe and others paid a visit to Mampintsha’s family.

The purpose of the visit was to comfort the Gumedes.

Pinky Gumede felt emotional and thanked DJ Tira for discovering Mampintsha.

“It is well with my soul. Your presence here means a lot to us. It is comforting to see you.

It’s the first time I meet you and today I want to thank you for finding and looking after Mandlenkosi. I know he and my mother can see you and I can feel in my spirit that they are happy to see you here,” sobbed Pinky.

Mampintsha died last month, on 24 December and Zamanguni Gumede followed on Sunday, 15 January.

Kwaito singer Linda “Thukie” Sibeko thanked Mampintsha’s mother for giving them Mampintsha.

“Most of us never met Mampintsha’s mother but we met her through Mampintsha. He had a good heart and we know he learnt that from his mother. We also thank her for giving us a son like him,” he said.

The memorial service for Zamanguni is taking place on Friday, 20 January at L Hall in KwaMashu, Durban from noon to 3pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, 21 January at the same venue.
