HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BONANG MATHEBA AS SHE TURNS 34

She has so many titles that she’s been given over the years, but Bonang Matheba is one media personality who always shows up and never disappoints her fans. Queen B is the title that resonates with many and she’s been said to have the same work ethic as Beyonce.

From the age of 15, she’s picked up a number of awards and now that she’s a business mogul, Bonang has had a lot of successes with her business ventures. With that, she’s also received recognition from prestigious organizations such as Forbes Africa.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BONANG MATHEBA AS SHE TURNS 34

Unfortunately for her, Bonang has also had her life dragged through social media a number of times. From her relationship with Euphonik to her time with AKA and the number of times she’s trended for the right and the wrong wrong reasons, there’s never a dull moment on these Twitter streets.

Despite everything that has happened in her life and as she rings in her 34th birthday here’s a look at the times Bonang showed us she’s not one to be messed with.

It’s not every day that anyone gets accused of being addicted to drugs, but Bonang did not see this coming. Whilst minding her own business as she usually does, Rea Gopane, a YouTuber who just entered the podcasting space, found himself in big trouble after saying some defamatory things about Queen B.

Rea even went on and claimed that Scoop Makhathini told him and his co-host this information, however, Scoop has steered clear away from that whole incident, but stated that he only talked about AKA.

Unfortunately, when Bonang contacted Rea, he ignored her, then an unexpected chain of events followed.

Mzansi tuned in every week to watch the Queen in action on her popular reality show Being Bonang which received raving reviews all the time. They got to see the real Bonang Matheba and a glimpse of her lavish lifestyle she gives fans a taste of on social media.

Sadly, Being Bonang ended three seasons later with Bonang declaring that the show was the worst experience of her life. Bonang Matheba’s fans were disappointed and curious as to why she would say that. They wanted to get to the root of the real reason for her not wanting to continue with the show.

Unfortunately, by and large, Bonang Matheba remained mum about the whole issue barring a few hints here and there. Even when her fans reminded her that she was greatly missed on TV her response is what shocked many.

No one knows the real reason why Bonang and Phil Mphela have been at loggerheads since 2012. The erstwhile friends have been beefing forever, but neither party wants to come out and end it.

It seems the two will not be friends anytime soon because they bumped heads over actress Busi Lurayi.

So what sparked all this?

After fervently denying that they were together, Bonang and AKA were photographed enjoying breakfast together in Cape Town – not long after the rapper and DJ Zinhle had called it quits.

AKA and Bonang later decided to go public about their relationship.

However, when we all thought all was going well, things got a bit shaky when AKA posted that he had found rocks tied in a plastic bag in his room. Then 2019 had us shook. Boom! AKA posted a picture of DJ Zinhle sitting on his lap on Instagram. The pair had decided to rekindle their love.

What happened to Bonang?

From the time Queen B solidified her name in the entertainment industry, she’s done nothing but secure bag after bag.

Bonang launched the House of BNG in March 2019 which was a huge success. Over the years, she’s seen her business grow and become one of the biggest alcohol brands in the country.

No-nonsense television and radio icon Bonang “Queen B” Matheba has taken a popular vlogger and podcaster to court and is demanding half a million rand from him for accusing her of using cocaine.

Matheba has obtained combined summons against Reatlegile “Rea” Ntlasang Gopane who hosts his podcast “Everything SA Music” on Youtube.

This after she kept her legion of fans wondering if she had accepted Gopane’s public apology for allegedly defaming her character without provocation.

Matheba demanded that Gopane apologise publicly and retract his statement and pay her R500 000 for injuring her reputation.

Though the 22-year-old podcaster apologised publicly, Matheba did not indicate whether she was extending an olive branch to Gopane.

Today we can reveal that Matheba has sneezed at Gopane’s apology as she is going ahead with the lawsuit.

In court papers, which Sunday World has seen, Matheba

said Gopane posted or broadcast in a video clip on May 9 with accusations that she had introduced her ex-boyfriend AKA to cocaine.

He said this when he and his colleagues were discussing the death of the rapper’s late partner Anele Tembe, who allegedly jumped to her death in Cape Town earlier this year.

During the broadcast, Gopane claimed that television presenter Siyabonga Ngweza, popularly known as Scoop Makhathini, told him that Tembe’s death was linked to drugs and that AKA was introduced to them by Matheba.

“Drugs are linked to her death and drugs could be one of the reasons for Anele Tembe’s death. Scoop told us that AKA is on coke and Bonang is the one that got him into cocaine,” he claimed during the broadcast.

Matheba said Gopane later posted on his social media pages a video clip of the broadcast, which went viral.

“The offending statement impute and were intended by the defendant to impute and mean, and were understood by the listeners to whom it was made, broadcast and or published that the plaintiff, among other things, is a cocaine and or drug and/or illegal substance user … is a drug pusher and is guilty of unconscionable and immoral conduct towards Kiernan Jarryd Forbes (AKA),” read the papers.

The Being Bonang television show star also said Gopane had also implied that she was guilty of unlawful conduct in that she participated or associated herself with cocaine or illegal substances and was also a person of questionable moral character and indirectly responsible for Tembe’s death.

Matheba further said though Gopane apologised publicly after her lawyers sent him a letter of demand to apologise and pay her R500 000 for injuring her reputation, he failed to pay.

Gopane could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.

Bonang Matheba has received the apology she demanded from podcaster Rea Gopane.

The 22-year-old man who accused media personality Bonang Matheba of introducing musician Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes to cocaine has apologised to her and retracted the claims.

On 9 May, Rea Gopane and partner Blvck Steph on podcast Everything SA Music recorded an episode containing the allegations while talking about Forbes’s fiancé, Anele Tembe.

“Scoop told us that AKA is on [cocaine] and Bonang is the one that got him into cocaine,” he said in the video circulated widely on social media. He was referring to a confidential conversation they had with actor Siyabonga Ngwekazi, also known as Scoop.

On Sunday evening, Matheba, through a letter from her legal team said the claims by the podcaster “were defamatory, hurtful and were deliberately intended to humiliate my client and undermine her reputation.”

Matheba’s legal team ordered Gopane to apologise across all his social media platforms and pay R500,000 in damages by 4 pm on Monday. If it is not done, Matheba could apply for an interdict against him.

She has sent a defamation proceeding letter, against Gopane by her attorney Thomas Wilks.

“In the context of what is being discussed in the video clip, this defamatory allegation was exacerbated by the shocking insinuation that the death of AKA’s girlfriend Anele (Nellie) Tembe was due to AKA’s alleged use of cocaine,” says the letter.

Wilks says the allegation was defamatory “intended to humiliate” Bonang and her reputation, adding that the allegations are false. Bonang said she contacted Gopane when the video was first released and gave him the opportunity to retract his statements and apologise.

“You expressly undertook to do so on the same day,” says Bonang about her interactions with Gopane who apparently did not fulfil his promise. Bonang claims Gopane instead “went into public hiding” and didn’t respond to her calls or messages.

The apology came with Gopane also releasing a video apologising to AKA and Scoop Makhathini. Gopane says he has “learnt from this mistake”.

Bonang was happy with the apology but did not take it lightly when people thought she was bullying the young man. Gopane is a rising star and 22 years old. Some people thought Bonang’s actions were too harsh and she was acting like a bully.

She responded: “I’ve dealt with heads of states darling…..a 22-year-old thinks this is a game?! Not on my watch. Not anymore!”

Bonang added the allegations were hurtful and not funny at all.

In the letter Bonang also demanded R500,000 in damages within 10 days. She still wants that money.
