Just How Serious Is Zahara’s Drinking Problem?

Zahara is the stage name of Bulelwa Mkutukana, a South African singer and songwriter. She is said to have had a strong affinity for music since she was a child, beginning her career as a street performer. Her fourth studio album was a commercial triumph.

Her debut album “Loliwe,” released in 2011, became platinum in 13 days and double platinum in 17 days in South Africa, selling over 100,000 copies. It earned her eight awards at the South African Music Awards in April 2012, including “Album of the Year” and “Best Female Artist.”

Just How Serious Is Zahara’s Drinking Problem?

Its her birthday today and we travel with you down memory lane to take a look at some of her highlights from the past year.

Social media users have reacted negatively to a weird video of Zahara singing. This is because the Nyamezela singer appeared to be inebriated and tripping over her words.

Just How Serious Is Zahara’s Drinking Problem?

Zahara had struggled with alcoholism in the past and had made it a point to quit. The singer is received fire after a viral video showing her performing with a group of men, with her appearing to be the only one who was intoxicated.

Zahara was subjected to cruel and derogatory remarks, with some implying that she has an alcohol problem and required assistance. Maphorisa also tweeted that Zahara urgently needed help, but he did it out of worry, saying that people should not judge her because she is going through a lot.

He, like many others, believed the person who shared the video was evil and was attempting to undermine Zahara’s album release.

“Please don’t mess with Zahara; the individual who released the video is a jerk. She is going through a lot and requires assistance. South Africa might be ineffective at times ” he said.

On Mac G’s podcast and Chill series, Zahara finally addressed her claimed “alcoholism.” The singer, was hesitant to discuss the issue because she had been portrayed as an alcoholic for so long.

Mac G teased his on the show, which now airs every Wednesday on Channel O, and stated they have a lot in common, including a fondness for drinking. She admitted to Mac G that she just drank one bottle of wine and that it had knocked her out. She then realized she needed to quit drinking that night because she was extremely inebriated.

The talented vocalist admitted that she began consuming alcohol as a stress reliever, but she has no regrets about anything that has transpired in her life. “I don’t regret the kind of young woman I am now, regardless of who robbed me or how many mistakes I made. It has grown on me, and I now know which steps to take or not. It doesn’t mean I won’t have difficulties; I’m still going to have issues” she went on to say.

After being chastised for performing at an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) event, Zahara was furious. She had been the subject of negative press for some time, and her fans were livid. Zahara’s only “crime” was performing at a political gathering in order to make ends meet.

For the 2018 municipal elections, various political groups were rallying for votes and support. When Pearl Thusi acknowledged her error, saying she only wanted to put food on the table and had rent to pay when she rallied with the ANC and DA.

Zahara was merely performing at the EFF’s campaign last week, and her “supporters” were outraged, threatening to never support her music again. However, she made it clear that she never received any money from the pandemic relief fund set up to help artists who were suffering financially as a result of the epidemic.

Zahara went on social media to announce her new haircare line, Country Girl, and promised that more information about her new adventure would be forthcoming.

She told IOL that the haircare line is her first commercial venture, of which she owns half.

“They called me up on stage when I was performing and said they wanted to do business with me and create a haircare line since I had great hair.” That’s how the adventure began. “This is my first baby, and it is mine. I used natural components, and my products do not include any chemicals,” she told the outlet.

It wasn’t easy, but you have to wait for God’s timing,” she told the publication about launching this business. “I persisted, and now we’ve arrived. I now have 46 retailers interested in carrying the product. It pays to put in the effort… All I ask is that people test the products out. They’re going to work.”

Zahara also told the publication that she will be releasing more products in the future, including perfume and hand sanitizers.

Bonang Matheba announces date for her homecoming

Bonang Matheba‘s fans are pleading with the media personality for her return to SA, even if it’s just for a day and she’s revealed that she’ll be coming home this Christmas.

Since 2019 Bonang had been vocal about her plans to relocate abroad and she finally made the big move this year to New York, though she did not reveal her reason.

A local Twitter user took to her timeline asking her when she’ll be visiting the country again, to which she responded in a now-deleted post that she’ll be travelling back to SA for Christmas.

Bonang Matheba announces date for her homecoming

“I’ll come home for Christmas” she wrote.

The media personality is now facing a legal battle with her former agency and celebrity management group Celebrity Services Africa (CSA) and she admitted that she had learned from her debacle with the company.

In an exclusive interview, Bonang said people within the creative space could learn from her experience and shared some gems as well.

“Creatives and talent and business start-ups and young people entering entertainment, media and those entering business must acquire knowledge and have solid checks and balances when dealing with agencies that represent you and your brand.

“Get every proposal or agreement checked by lawyers. Hire your own independent lawyers and other experts — so that you do not get the agency to ‘help’ you with reviewing business proposals. This is critical. It was key for me to identify some issues,” she said.

SA Global hit back at Bonang’s accusations, dismissing her allegations as being without merit and accusing her or telling half-truths about the situation.

In a statement, CSA reiterated its earlier statement about the matter.

“Per our statement issued on Tuesday, Ms Matheba is in breach of multiple contracts with various clients as she has been absent to these brands and indeed her own for the past six months. The matter is with our legal team, who are awaiting a response to various letters sent to Ms Matheba’s lawyer.”

They added, “We are not in the business of destroying brands, but rather in the business of building them. However, we do believe in the merits of contracts and believe agreed-upon terms should be respected and honoured.

“We do hope an amicable solution can be found, where the value that has been created is not undermined or discredited. Nonetheless, we are sad that there has been a parting of ways. We look back with fond memories of the achievements we made together and wish Bonang every success.”

Social media is all twisted about who Thuli Phongolo is dating. I mean, we are a little confused too. Most recently, she has been linked to Mr JazziQ when pictures emerged of them looking cozy and very saucy with each other. The internet was immediately set ablaze with the photos as people were shocked at how fast she moves on.

Just two months ago, she was linked to DJ Maphorisa in similar dating rumours, and tweeps were even excitedly wishing them well. A video went viral of the two of them looking all loved up, and we were certain something was cooking in that kitchen.

Thuli Phongolo finally speaks out

She went online to refute the rumours strongly, and told fans that they need to stop with the rumours.

If you think that’s complicated, just wait. Shortly before that, she had once again been rumoured to be dating yet another ZAleb – singer Master KG. To this one, she reacted very strongly, with a comment that rubbed fans of the Jerusalema star the wrong way. Responding to these rumours, Thuli told fans “Please respect me”. Ouch! Doesn’t that feel like she thinks she is too good for Master KG?

Her history of being linked to celebrities could go on for hours, so we’ll summarise. Before the Master KG thing, she was linked to Duduzane Zuma, then there was Erica Macheru, and of course, her ex, DJ Zinhle’s bae Murdah Bongz.

New municipal political heads will not receive pay hikes

New municipal political heads will not receive pay hikes

Councillors have been waiting to hear whether they will receive pay hikes, following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on government finances. Earlier this year, President Cyril Ramaphosa declined to increase the salaries of public office bearers, Cabinet ministers and their deputies, premiers and MECs, judges, magistrates and traditional leaders – following the recommendations of the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office-Bearers, which is based in the Presidency.
South Africa’s almost 9 500 councillors earn nearly R7 billion of the more than R11.6bn spent on salaries, of about 20 600 public office-bearers every year.

Among the reasons cited by the commission, for recommending a 0% increase to Ramaphosa, was the country’s fiscal condition, the state’s wage bill and the impact on public office-bearers’ salaries, the increment on the fiscus and general economic outlook.

Dlamini Zuma indicated that she had consulted all MECs responsible in local government, in the nine provinces, before announcing her decision to determine a 0% cost of living adjustment for the upper limits of salaries, allowances and benefits of different members of municipal councils for the 2020/21 financial year.
The percentage has been rising quickly in recent years, putting more and more pressure on non-wage spending in the province. The provincial Treasury, through the Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC), is planning a workshop on the compensation of employees,” the department announced.

There are also plans to manage the compensation of employees’ budget, over the 2022 medium-term expenditure framework, to ensure that the province meets its set ceiling until the end of March 2025. Among the measures to be rolled out are headcount management, recruitment, and human resources development to operate within its limit.
