Former South African soccer player Teko Modise claims his ex-fiancée Lizelle Tabane falsely accused him of abuse, on an episode of Podcast And Chill on 9 December.

Teko Modise, who is affectionately known as “The General”, sat down with controversial podcast host MacG and Sol Phenduka on the latest episode of Podcast And Chill. In his interview, he opened up about his previous relationships.

Teko and his ex-fiancée Lizelle Tabane were in an on and off relationship since they first hooked up in 2013. The pair got engaged the same year but Teko reportedly demanded a refund on the lobola he paid for her. In 2015, Lizelle accused the former Mamelodi Sundowns player of abusing her.

However, Teko says that he was falsely accused of abusing the model. He claims that someone else abused her and she had those pictures on her phone when they began dating.

“I remember when we started dating there were pictures on her phone. I think somebody abused her or something like that. She had scars and all of that stuff, right. So when we broke up… she took the same pictures… the same pictures went to the media and said I was beating her up,” said Teko.

Teko also said that he considered the relationship to be toxic.

“It was scary because at the time I was still having endorsements. It was very toxic for me. She is a beautiful person, a beautiful woman,” he continued.

The retired midfielder also spoke about his first marriage to Felicia Modise, the pair tied the knot in 2010. He explained that he married her because she was pregnant and he wanted to take responsibility for the baby. The pair share a daughter together and got divorced in 2013.

“The first marriage… I wasn’t ready to be honest with you. When it happened, we were not dating. So I was scared to be what my father was to me. She was pregnant, so I decided to marry her because she was pregnant with my baby. I took responsibility,” said Teko.

Teko added that he was not in love with Felicia.

“The problem was that I learnt about the person in the marriage, I didn’t know who the person was and it was really difficult for me because I wasn’t in love with this person,” he continued.

The General also spoke about his current marriage with Koketso Chipane. The pair have been together since 2017 and tied the knot, in a traditional wedding earlier this year.

In October, Koketso announced that she is pregnant with a beautifully filmed video at the beach. The pair are expecting a baby boy. Teko revealed that he is much more involved this time around.

“What I liked about the pregnancy is that it was actually planned. I got to go to every scan. To me it felt like the first baby because all of the stuff that I never used to do. (It was) because I was still a footballer and training and all of that stuff,” said Teko.

“So to me it feels like the first baby that’s why I’m so excited about it,” he continued.

Media personality and soccer player Teko Modise recently spoke about the adversities he had to face before becoming a star player.

The now-turned analyst recently opened up about being homeless after he was kicked out at home by his father, who did not want him to play soccer.

“My dad never told me that he was a footballer. I was told by other people. He took me to my first game at FNB Stadium, but never wanted me to play the game,” he told controversial podcaster MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho.

“He was always pushing me to go to school. He did not like it whenever someone came to ask me to play for them. And when they leave, I would get a beating because he did not understand why I was still playing. But, I wanted to find out what it is about this game that he did not want me to play.”

Teko said after going against his father’s will, he kicked him out.

“I became a street kid for a few months, and the first time I ate Chicken Licken was from a dustbin,” he said.

Also known as The General, Teko said word went out that he was homeless, and eventually his mum came looking and found him.

He also spoke about his previous team Orlando Pirates “using muthi”, sharing that they would take a bath before a game to ensure a win.

“We would bathe the night before, then go back to our room to take a shower.

The following day, we would lose the game and they would say we were not bathing correctly. So on game day after a pre-meal as we are just about to board the bus, we would bathe and go to the stadium. Next thing, you’re in the pitch itching!” he said.

Teko added that those who were against using muthi never made it far in the team as they would either get benched or kicked out.

Koketso recently shared the news on her Instagram with a video of herself running on the beach showing off her cute baby bump.

Could this be the third time lucky in marriage for former Bafana Bafana midfield maestro Teko Modise?

He bade farewell to his bachelor days in style when he said “I do” to his long-term girlfriend Koketso Chipane, who is popularly known as KokieBerry on social media.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star got hitched in an intimate traditional wedding attended by fewer than 30 close friends and family members in Meadowlands, Soweto, two weeks ago.

According to sources, members of the community were not allowed to attend the occasion because of lockdown restrictions.

This is not the first time Modise has walked down the aisle. In 2010, he married Felicia Mokoena, but the couple divorced in 2013. He then paid lobola for model Lizelle Tabane, but the relationship did not last long, and they went their separate ways in 2014.

According to close friends, Modise and Chipane have been together since 2017. He paid lobola in 2018 and the couple had the first leg of their traditional wedding then.

“This was the second leg, where her family was officially handing the bride to the Modises,” said a source.

Since the couple started dating, Modise has not been shy to post her on social media.

In a post celebrating her birthday in August, Modise uploaded a picture of them together and captioned it: “I’m very thankful, incredibly grateful, unbelievably blessed to be in your presence every day.”

Chipane wrote on her Instagram page that the two had met online before meeting each other for a date. She said that, after a few months of dating, Modise disappeared and changed his number, which he later said was because he was falling in love with her and he got scared.

But Modise came round and scored a brace off the field.

Yesterday, a fortnight after their nuptials, the couple held Chipape’s baby shower at Tugela Club in Sandton.

A source alleged that the wedding ceremony was not smooth sailing, as Modise’s uncles refused to be part of the occasion.

“There were also issues of the venue as other family members were against him having the ceremony at the family house, arguing that he should have got a venue other than a family house,” said the source.

“He hired bouncers to ensure that protocol was observed. If you didn’t have [an invitation], you were not allowed in,” said the source, adding that the wedding went ahead despite family politics and without the uncles.

Modise could not be reached for comment, as his phone went straight to voicemail.
