Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial postponed

The trial of five men accused of the murder of former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has been postponed in the Pretoria High Court.

This follows a breakdown of the court’s recording equipment after the lunch break. Meyiwa was shot and killed during an alleged robbery in 2014 at the Vosloorus home of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s mother.

Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela has rolled over the matter to Wednesday. Because of the breakdown of the recording machine, we have no alternative but to roll over this matter so as to proceed to tomorrow. The matter is postponed with the accused in custody.

Earlier, legal representatives in the Meyiwa murder trial have raised concerns over the media’s coverage of the trial, especially the SABC. This is due to microphones remaining on during breaks and adjournments, picking up private conversations between legal teams and the accused.

The matter is being carried live on television and streamed on online platforms. Both the state and defence have asked the high court in Pretoria to address the issue, where five men are on trial for the premeditated murder of the goalie.

Counsel for accused number four, advocate Zandile Mshololo says a private conversation between her and the prosecutor was recorded during a tea break is compromising their work.

Zim’s Mellontik Orasi prophesied about recent revelations that Kelly Khumalo was responsible for her late boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa’s death two months ago, a Facebook post seen by the publication shows.

The self-proclaimed foreteller was responding to one of his fans’ comments on his Facebook page after getting quizzed on who killed Senzo Meyiwa. He did not mince his words in pointing out that Kelly Khumalo knew who killed the late footballer.

“Ask Kelly,” he said after one Asanda Nomeni asked him: “Who killed Senzo Meyiwa. “Asanda Nomeni I just gave you the answer,” the self-proclaimed ‘man of God’ also added insinuating that Kelly Khumalo killed Senzo Meyiwa.

It was not till Tuesday afternoon – some two months after the interesting conversation went down that Kelly was fingered as the main suspect in the death of her boyfriend in her house.

Advocate Teffo who is a defense lawyer representing the alleged suspects in Senzo Meyiwa’s trial at the Pretoria High Court, he would produce an eyewitness who will testify that Kelly Khumalo was the one who mistakenly shot dead Senzo Meyiwa in her house.

This is one of many other “correct” predictions the famed prophet has made in a space of a month this year. In a cryptic Facebook post on 20 May, just after 19:00, he predicted that a male celebrity would die. A few days later, popular actor Jamie Bartlett died after an instant cardiac arrest.

He recently revealed that Kelly Khumalo was also in danger and could die if she was not prayed for.

“Kelly Khumalo if you haven’t prayed before then start now. Dark clouds rising,” he said in a cryptic post on Wednesday.

Late soccer star, Senzo Meyiwa’s mother suffers another pain as she recently got robbed. Ntombifuthi Meyiwa, the mother of late soccer player Senzo, spoke on YouTube’s Phumlani Ndube show about how she had been a victim of scam artists.

She said an unknown woman started a conversation with her in a shopping mall last week, then a mysterious woman picked up a purse on the floor, which was in front of her trolley, on the floor in the supermarket. The two women were then approached by some men posing as police. The men searched the women’s belonging, including the gogos’ for allegedly stolen items.

The event played out wrong after the men never returned with her personal belongings, including her bank pin.

Court rules Netflix production company may continue filming Senzo Meyiwa trial

Streaming service Netflix has been given the green light to film the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
The High Court in Pretoria made the ruling on Monday following an application by the defence, objecting to the attendance of the streaming service’s production crew.

The defence cited the Netflix docuseries is exposing witnesses to harassment and intimidation.

The High Court says there’s not enough evidence to support this.

THE tombstone of former Bafana Bafana Captain Senzo Meyiwa will be renewed in three months’ time.

That’s according to South Africa Football Association (Safa) in KZN.

Senzo’s tombstone was vandalised and left into pieces in December 2020 at the Heroes Acre cemeteries in Durban.

Safa spokesman and co-ordinator of the Senzo tombstone project, Kwenza Ngwenya, said that after the tombstone was vandalised, they agreed to renew it, but the lockdown disturbed the plans.

He told a local publication that when the lockdown regulations were lifted, they resumed the project but the recent floods in KZN affected their plans.

“The tombstone company in Pietermaritzburg, KZN Midlands recently went to check the grave. But the floods happened,” said Ngwenya.

He said that they were busy planning the re-installation.

When he was asked about security, and how they will protect it from being vandalised again, Ngwenya said that they’ve discussed the issue.

“That’s a million dollar question. But we will try to fence it in a way that thugs won’t have access to it. It cost Safa R160 000 for the tombstone alone, excluding the cost of the unveiling. For it to be vandalised like that, days after the unveiling, was shocking. But this time we will try all the means to protect it,” said Ngwenya.

“You must remember that Safa is not obliged to install this tombstone. We are doing it because Senzo played for the national team. This is work from the goodness of Safa’s heart. And we want to show the nation that we care and we recognise what Senzo was doing for us. And we are also helping the Meyiwa family. As a co-ordinator, I will make sure that everything is ready in three months.”

He said Safa first proposed to make Senzo’s statue as an honour, but his father, Sam Meyiwa, when he was still alive, pleaded for the tombstone.

“That’s why we made sure that Senzo’s grave had a tombstone. And we did it before criminals vandalised it,” said Ngwenya.

Senzo’s brother Sifiso Meyiwa said that they will be happy when the tombstone is installed.

“ That will bring dignity to my brother. Let’s just pray that nothing disturb the project again,” said Sifiso.

Senzo was shot and killed in 2014, the matter that is still in court.

Update: Late witness in Senzo Meyiwa trial wasn’t key to NPA’s case

The death of one of the state witnesses meant to testify in the murder trial of soccer star, Senzo Meyiwa, has been confirmed.

The National Prosecuting Authority has confirmed that Brigadier Philani Ndlovu passed away, but said he was not regarded as a key witness.

“His role was limited to his presence at the place of the incident and the management of the crime scene. It should be noted that his statement had not been obtained by the investigators,” said the NPA in a statement.

“There are several other witnesses who will give relevant evidence on the merits of the case. The State is still confident that it has sufficient evidence to ensure a successful prosecution in this case,” it added.

This comes just weeks before the trial is expected to resume in the High Court in Pretoria.

Ndlovo was identified by a state witness as one of the first people to respond to the scene where Meyiwa was murdered and was expected to appear as the State’s witness.

The Meyiwa murder trial is expected to resume on 30 May, after the last session ended on a dramatic note with advocate Malesela Teffo, who is representing four of the suspects in the murder trial, getting arrested.

Teffo was arrested inside the high court last month and led away in handcuffs in front of television cameras, just after proceedings in the Meyiwa murder trial were postponed.

Although Teffo’s arrest was highly criticised, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said Teffo was previously arrested on charges of common assault and trespassing.

Teffo allegedly assaulted a female SAPS member and entered the SAPS Gauteng Provincial building, in contravention of a high court interdict prohibiting him from entering the said building.

After failing to appear before the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on several occasions, including on 27 January 2022, a warrant of arrest (J165) was issued and withheld, said the SAPS.

Teffo’s case was remanded to 10 February 2022. Advocate Teffo was again not in court, and bail was finally forfeited to the state.

An instruction was then issued by the court for the warrant of arrest to be executed. SAPS said Teffo was aware of the warrant of arrest.

He appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on 29 April 2022 where he was granted bail of R10,000. The case was postponed to 27 May 2022.

Sifisokuhle Ntuli, Muzikawukhulelwa Sthemba Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Ncube, and Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa – who are charged with murdering the Bafana Bafana captain in Vosloorus in 2014 – will remain behind bars until the next appearance.

The suspects are already serving various sentences for convictions in other unrelated cases.

When the court resumes on 30 May, the cross-examination will continue with advocate Zandile Mshololo, representing the fifth accused, Ntuli, taking the stand.

“The defence witnesses for four suspects in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case are receiving serious threats to their lives, from the police.”

This was according to Advocate Malesela Teffo, representing four of the five murder-accused in the trial.

Teffo said this in a letter to the North Gauteng High Court when requesting for the trial to resume sooner than scheduled.

He also mentioned that he had written to National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, asking him to intervene, but he never responded or acknowledged receipt.

“The date 30 May was not suggested by the defence of accused one to four. The current volatile situation against the defence was never foreseen. We value the safety and security of our witnesses the same was as the state is protecting theirs,” he stated.

He requested presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela to urgently move the trial forward. He said this would be in the best interest of justice, the accused and family of the deceased. He suggested 18 May, as agreed in court before his dramatic arrest on 28 April.

A meeting would be held on Tuesday, 17 May, between the defence, state prosecutor and judge, with the deputy judge president, following Teffo’s request.

Advocate Zandile Mshololo, representing the fifth accused, would not be present.

Meanwhile, the same court was expected to deliver a sentencing on the man convicted of murdering Matwetwe actor Sibusiso Khwinana.

Khwinana was stabbed to death in a robbery outside Sterland Mall in Arcadia, Tshwane, in 2019.

In February, the court found Julius Lucas guilty of the murder, as well as of robbery with aggravating circumstances and contravening the Immigration Act, after it was revealed that he was in the country unlawfully.

Inside Senzo Meyiwa’s cheating scandalsWhile many Twitter users are attempting to connect the dots of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa’s death, others have been feeling for his ex-wife Mandisa Mkhize, who he cheated on.

Netflix released a documentary titled Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star, which looks into the details and speculation surrounding the former Bafana Bafana captain’s death. Senzo was killed in an armed robbery that took place at his then-girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo’s home on 26 October 2014.

The five men accused of murdering him appeared in court on Tuesday 12 April but the case was postponed further until next week. The documentary, which was released on 7 April, set tongues wagging on Twitter. Many people are upset that Senzo’s killer had not been found but others took notice of the soccer star’s cheating scandals. The former Bafana Bafana captain allegedly cheated on his wife Mandisa quite a few times. Take a look…

So, Tweeps felt for the soccer star’s wife Mandisa Mkhize because he cheated on her several times. The soccer star began dating Kelly while he was married to Mandisa. Kelly said she only found out that Senzo was married when she was three months pregnant with their daughter Thingo – on an episode of her reality show Life With Kelly Khumalo. Take a look…

“I only found out that this man was married when I was three months into my pregnancy. So I have a fear of that,” she said.

Mandisa allegedly tried to push Kelly off the road and she jumped out the vehicle to confront her and that was when she found out Senzo was married. However, it turns out Senzo also allegedly had a third “baby mama.”

Minenhle Mathaba claimed to have been in a relationship with Senzo for three years before he died in 2014. She said that she knew Senzo was married and he was involved with Kelly but they also share a son together.

However, a local publication reported that Mathaba may be a fraud who targets grieving families. So, it is unclear whether Senzo really had a third “baby mama” or not.
