Atandwa Kani and Zola Hashatsi remember late Mncedisi Shabangu on his heavenly birthday

Atandwa Kani took to his social media to remember late Mncedisi Shabangu on his heavenly birthday.

The actor, playwright and theatre director died aged 53 on July 24 after complaining of chest pains.

Athandwa who considered the late star his big brother, friend, mentor, adviser and confidant took to his Instagram timeline on Thursday wishing Mncedisi, who would have been 54 on Friday, a heavenly birthday.

“Happy Heavenly Birthday TaMnce, ubhut’ Lekese, uMnce Mncwa! Gone, but never forgotten! I will always love you Sir Baldwin! #TheMaestro,” he wrote.

When sharing a tribute to Mncedisi in a previous post, Anadwa spoke of how his passing had torn him.

“I am so heartbroken. Rest in eternal peace. I will never forget you. See you on the other side my ‘maestro’.”

Zola Hashatsi also took to his timeline to share a heartfelt post to his former Market Theatre Laboratory physical theatre teacher.

“Happy Heavenly Birthday Uncle Ta, Mncedisi Shabangu, we continue to miss and love you. It’s really hard to learn to live without you but clearly this proves we are not in control. May you continue to rest in peace,” he wrote.

ATANDWA KANI BAGS NEW HOLLYWOOD ROLE

Naledi Award winning South African film and theatre actor Atandwa Kani has landed himself a role on an American web series called Chronicles of a BLEEP Year Old Woman

According to the show’s website, the series is “a comedic web series following the journey of a not-as-young-as-she-used-to-be woman pursuing BIG dreams in the Big Apple. Her delightfully delusional perspective challenges societal norms and worldview concepts regarding age and female identity”

The series is currently in post production and is expected to air very soon. It stars Tamra Paselk, who is also the creator of the show.

According to Phil, Atandwa plays the character of Mthokozisi and only appears in two episodes.

The series pilot has been selected for 17 film festivals including several Academy Award qualifying festivals, is highly awarded.

Atandwa has not said anything about the show and his role but social media is abuzz with congratulatory messages for John Kani’s son. We are equally as happy for him.

Recently Mzansi has been celebrating after claims that the Love By Chance lead actor has been cast to play the Black Panther. The Marvel Studios film is slated to return to the big screen for a sequel and with the unfortunate passing of the original Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, fans have been waiting with bated breath to find out who will be cast to take over this role.

Chadwick, who brought the fictitious character T’Challa to life from the famous movie Black Panther, succumbed to a 4-year battle with colon cancer in August last year. His social media account confirmed the news and had said the actor learned in 2016 that he had Stage 3 colon cancer, which had then progressed to Stage 4. His peaceful departure happened at the presence of his wife and family at his home.

With the shooting of the second installment of the movie currently underway, mzansi is convinced that Atandwa will be taking over the role of T’Challa from his previous role of the younger King T’Chaka, especially because many refer to him as Chadwick’s doppelganger.

However, the award-winning actor has debunked these claims. He took to his Twitter to explain that he had not been contacted by the executives of the film about such news.

But, as Black Twitter would have it, this fell on deaf ears – or should we say blind eyes? Tweeps were not interested in Atandwa’s revelation and outright told him that if they say he is the Black Panther, then he is exactly that. Tweeps were not about to be disappointed on a Monday morning. Nope! Not them.

While it isn’t clear who the source of the rumour is, a fan claimed that they aware informed by entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela. However, Phil moved swiftly to rubbish these claims. He made it clear that he does not report on news he cannot verify.

Atandwa Kani has found himself in the firing line after dissing the viral #JohnVuliGate girls and their overnight success. The actor who has had a very good acting career for over a decade, felt like their over night success was not deserved at all.

In a now-deleted tweet, the Black Panther actor came for influencers and the girls as he believes their success was caused by a** shaking. As a famous actor who has the international recognition, he claims to have spent his entire life making mistakes and taking risks. So for him, the way in which people nowadays get instant fame is mind-boggling.

“I wish I had known, before studying for so long, working for 16 years & making life altering career choices, that all I needed to do is shake my a** to be an influencer, celebrity & a household name. F**k it, it’s your life though,” he said in the now deleted tweet.

As much as many people agree with him, seeing the hate the girls, who refer themselves as ‘Stockos’ are receiving now from people, some told him to get with the times. The impact that social media has, has been proven countless times before and the #JohnVuliGate girls are the latest to make it big with the help of a viral post.

Kani is in disbelief at how a social media post and taking part in viral challenges can open countless opportunities for people. He wishes that was the case 16 years ago, therefore he wouldn’t have broken his back acquiring all this fame and wealth he has now. “But that wasn’t the norm 16 years ago,” he responded to a follower.

He then issued out an apology after the backlash he received and said it was intended to be a joke. “Okay Okay Okay… I apologize for my last tweet about “A** shaking”, it was in bad taste, originally INTENDED to be a joke…but I see how insensitive it is. To each their own, in life & career choices. I am truly sorry.. it shall be deleted.. I’m sorry to everyone I offended.”
