Mzansi actress Zandile Msutwana is counting her blessings as she has landed a new role after Mzansi Magic’s The Queen was canned.

The actress will be appearing in Gqeberha: The Empire, which is replacing The Queen.

The last episode of The Queen airs on Friday, and Gqeberha: The Empire will premiere on Monday, 16 January at 9pm.

Speaking to Daily Sun, the 43-year-old actress said: “I am lucky and blessed, but I worked hard for it. I’m looking forward to more, but I understand opportunities like these don’t come easy to South African actors and actresses.

“As much as it looks like I jumped from one show to the next, it didn’t happen like that. I stopped The Queen in March and we started filming the new show in November.

“I had a number of months where I wasn’t working, and that’s the norm in the industry.”

Zandile, who played the role of Vuyiswa on The Queen, said she hoped viewers would not compare her old character to her new one, a cop called Zimkhitha.

“I hope people will embrace the change.”

When asked about her new character, Zandile said she didn’t want to share much because she wanted people to see for themselves.

“Zimkhitha is the second wife of Luzuko Mxenge, played by Mbulelo Grootboom, and she is deceitful and two-faced,” she said.

After nearly three months off Mzansi Magic’s The Queen, actress Zandile Msutwana is set to make a return to the show in August, when season 6 of the show will begin to air.

Msutwana said that she has recovered well and had been back on set for a week.

“It has only been a week since my return and I am still taking it all in. What I am absolutely sure about is that ndonwabile (I’m happy),” she said.

“I generally missed being on set doing what I love and the challenges the writers throw at Vuyiswa,” she added..

The actress, who had been receiving well wishes for her recovery on social media, says that she is humbled by the love her fans have shown her during her absence.

I would like to thank them for all the support they have shown me. I am humbled, Ndiyabulela kakhulu (thank you very much),” she said.

Msutwana also promised that fans would get to see more of her this time around.

“Right now I am focusing my attention on shooting The Queen and embracing being back to doing what I love. The fans will get to see more of me,” she concluded.

The Queen actress Zandile Msutwana, who plays Vuyiswa is back on set.

She has been on leave since March after she sustained an injury while on set and was booked off to recover at home.

Shortly after the injury, she was temporarily replaced by media personality Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo, who has been playing the role since April.

“We have no doubt that with Thembisa’s immense talent and skills, along with the support and guidance she has received from Msutwana, the character of Vuyiswa Maake will continue to steal the hearts of the viewers.

“We are very excited for Mdoda-Nxumalo and thankful to her for taking this gigantic challenge with so much grace. We wish Msutwana a speedy recovery and look forward to her return soonest,” Mzansi Magic said.

Speaking on her return Zandile said she is excited to be back on set.

“It has only been a few days since I returned on set and I am still taking it one step at a time, but what I am sure of is that I am happy to be back doing what I love,” she said.

“I don’t know where to begin. I missed everything about that show. I missed being around the whole team, creating magic together with the cast and crew, and the conversations that we have while chilling together.”

Zandile also thanked everyone that has been supportive towards her during her recovery.

“Thank you doesn’t begin to express my appreciation for all of you, I appreciate every call, text, DM, mention, prayer, love and well wishes that were directed to me,” she said.

Zandile shared that she will be back on screen later this year in August when the show premieres for season six.
