Millicent Makhado opens up about her abusive marriage

Besides entertainment, celebrities also serve to inspire and actress Millicent Makhado is staying true to that by opening up about her own experiences with abusive relationships, as GBV has been declared as a crisis in our society.

Taking to Instagram, Makhado shared a snippet of a video that can be found on YouTube about how she managed to escape an abusive marriage. The video also serves to give women the courage to also leave abusive and toxic relationships.

Making reference to her own marriage, Makhado shared the difficulty of leaving a situation that you have been taught to pray and fast over, but knowing when to leave is very important.

“This is a very difficult topic as a young woman who was in an abusive relationship. I realised that it is not easy to leave an abusive relationship. As much as I was told how stupid I was, that I was a fool and that I was useless, I still didn’t leave the relationship”Makhado said

I know this is a sensitive issue. It’s something that I didn’t want to talk about, but I know it will teach someone something. I know that it is hard being a woman in South Africa. We don’t know what to do. “Men, please forgive us. I don’t know why we deserve to be abused. I don’t know why you don’t just love us” Makhado said.

Former Muvhango actress Millicent Makhado breathing fire after thugs broke in her car

The former Scandal and Muvhango actress Millicent Makhado told said thugs stole her ID, driver’s licence, laptop and even her daughter’s backpack from her car parked at her mum’s house in Atteridgeville, Tshwane.

The actress is still hurting after her car was broken into last month. She said she had visited her mum, who wasn’t well.

“I had to take my child to school in Joburg the next morning and we were supposed to leave at 5.30 am,” she told Daily Sun.

“I woke up, had a bath and put my belongings in the car before going back inside to prepare my child for the day.” Millicent said 15 minutes later, she came back to find her car had been broken into.
“I wasn’t in the house for a long time. It happened so quickly. I’m disappointed,” she said.

Millicent said she lost some work that was stored on her hard drive.

“I’m an artist and writer, and I do a lot of work on the side.

“My work was on the hard drive and am scared some of it won’t be recovered,” she said.

“I have to now run around offices applying for my lost documents. It’s a lot of work, considering we’re still under lockdown.”

Millicent said she wanted all her belongings back.

“Those thugs should bring my things back. I’ll take action to make sure I get what’s mine.

“I worked hard for those things and someone took them in less than an hour,” she said.

Gauteng police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele confirmed that a case was opened.

“It’s under investigation but no one has been arrested yet,” he said.
