Actress Khabonina Qubeka returns to Generations: The Legacy

AFTER months of not appearing on screen, actress Khabonina Qubeka is returning to Generations: The Legacy for her role as Oby.

Speaking to a local publication, she said she was excited when she got the call that she is needed back on the show.

“I never thought I would come back this soon looking at the way Oby exited the show. I’m glad I am back,” she said.

Speaking about what people can expect when she makes a comeback, the 41-year-old said this time around her storyline is filled with a lot of twists and turns.

“People should expect the unexpected, unlike the last time when things were straightforward.

“She is going to be playing a lot of mind games that are going to leave a lot of people even more frustrated and angry, but at the same time enjoy it because she is going to keep people on the edge of their seats,” she said.

The seasoned actress plays a wicked witch that people have come to love. She said unlike other actors, whenever she is in public, she doesn’t get slapped or sworn at. because of her role.

“As much as my character brings out a lot of anger and hatred towards her, I am glad I have never been in a situation where a fan comes after me and tries to attack me,” she said.

“Instead it is all fun and jokes and at times they are very inquisitive and want to know what goes on in Oby’s mind, which leaves me happy because I know I have done my job well,” she said.

Asked if she debriefs after scenes so that the things she acts out don’t affect her psychologically, Khabonina said as an actress, she has learnt not to take her work home. “Immediately after they say cut,and I leave the studios, I leave the character at the door. This creates a balance in my life,” she said.

The fitness bunny also shared that this year is with the People’s Paper that she has a lot of upcoming projects on her plate and the yearexciting for her.

“I have four big projects that are coming, but I cannot speak about them at the moment as it would land me in trouble, but it includes an event which I will be sharing shortly on social media,” she said.

Besides Khabonina making a comeback, the popular show is also Generations: The Legacy is also introducing a brand-new character Philani, played by Herald Khumalo.

Speaking on Khumalo’s casting as Philani, Generations: The Legacy’sCasting director, Russel Savadier, said: “We needed someone who’d be able to combine the dark and dangerous with being comfortable and confident in a boardroom. Herald ticked those boxes perfectly.”

To say Khabonina has been working hard would be a major understatement, Khabonina rose to superstardom with the role of Doobsie on Muvhango in 2006, and she never looked back.

According to Daily Sun, the actress has bagged a new role and she is the newest addition on Generation The Legacy. Khabonina who has appeared on several shows including Uzalo and Isidingo told the publication that this is a huge milestone as she has always wanted to be part of the award-winning primetime soapie.

I’ve always wanted to be part of the show, but the opportunity never presented itself. “I told myself that one day, eventually when I join it I want to be power; and impactful because I love and respect the show, It is one of the shows that groomed us and inspired us to be who we are today,” she said.

Khabonina will portray the character of Oby who is a diplomat and it seems viewers will be left mesmerized by her acting skills. She said she has been gearing up for this role for a very long time now.

“I’ve been preparing for this role for a very long time. She has a certain power, which makes her exciting to play.” The actress said she has shifted away from the industry norm of actors mimicking a character’s accent that is from outside of South Africa.

“I did a lot of research and finding ways to make her relatable. The moment some actors hear that a character is from outside of South Africa, they tend to mimic the accent. I decided to shy away from that because it can land one in a lot of trouble, so I kept her simple yet respectful and powerful because she is well respected where she comes from.”
