Media personality Motlatsi Mafatshe is excited as he has a lot in the pipeline to showcase this year and wants to venture into untapped territory.

While the actor has had a great 2021 being on various TV shows like House of Zwide, BET’s Black Tax, Netflix’s film How to Ruin Christmas and many more, among the many goals he hopes to achieve in this new year, he told a local publication that he wishes to do a stand-up show for the first time.

“I have a humorous bone and the characters I play all the time have that level of humour, but I’d like to do stand-up comedy. I just don’t have the balls.”

“I hide behind the characters I play so I don’t have the pressure. On TV, I can be as funny as I want because it’s not me. I’ve always wanted to do it … and I think I’ll do it this year,” he said.

Speaking of his album set to be released later this year, Motlatsi said he was more intentional with the music he was putting out now.Motlatsi Mafatshe1

“Now you get to understand Motlatsi. There’s so much good music there, there are conceptual sounds.”

The actor also plans on releasing a music video for his single Monate Fela.

“I’m quite a musician, an old-school artist. I’m into funk, pop, rhythmic blues, and all. I’m not into amapiano because I think it comes and it goes. It’s nice though. The music I make lasts forever. I think kwaito is such a classic genre, it will never end.”

Since his high school days, Motlatsi has loved directing. He directed church or school plays with the hope that he would one day direct and he believes that people that aspire to walk the same path should be inspired by his story, along with other artists who have defied the odds like Black Brain founder Mandla N.

“I’m living the dream … It’s important for every artist to be a producer first before an artist because then you create your own work. You then don’t have to look at the industry as someone who wants to be in the entrainment industry but rather someone who’ll be known as a pioneer and you’re in control of your life.

“I work every day. Last year was a bit hectic but you have to do it, particularly during these Covid-19 times … there’s so much I want to do,” he said.

Motlatsi said he felt passionate about people expanding their careers beyond the limelight and studied the industry before getting into it.

“People don’t want to be educated, they just want to be famous. When you go to school you can learn the different disciplines and learn the business. That’s when you’ll be able to sustain yourself.”

Former Isidingo actor Motlatsi Mafatshe is shaking things up on the new Mzansi Magic show that is set to help people level up in life.

Motlatsi hosts ‘Unefa’, is Mzansi Magic’s new docu-reality series that follows the lives of South Africans who are surprised by the fact that they have an unclaimed inheritance.

Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net Nomsa Philiso said, ‘Unefa’ will take viewers on an emotional, entertaining, hopeful, reflective and heart-warming journey where unsuspecting beneficiaries are surprised with an unclaimed inheritance from their deceased loved ones”.

“The show’s premise is created on the fact that every year many South Africans pass on, leaving their loved ones with the gift of an inheritance, but every year many South Africans miss their blessings and never receive that money.

‘This may be due to incorrect personal details (where their information was either wrongly logged or not updated) or the beneficiary is a minor at the time of death, resulting in payment where the money is held by the Guardian’s Fund. Others don’t receive their funds for sneakier reasons such as lack of transparency between family members.

Unefa will trace the relationship between the family and the deceased while sharing the beneficiary’s healing process. Mzansi Magic said each episode culminates with their reaction during the moment of truth when the big surprise is revealed: that they will be receiving an inheritance!

The show follows other Mzansi Magic successful docu-reality series such as ‘I Blew It’ viewers were let into the lives of those who once had millions but blew them within years or even months of having the millions. They did not get financial advice and because of that bad financial decisions were made.

Viewers saw people like Tso Vilakazi, the former Orlando Pirates mid-fielder narrate how he lost his millions when his life was marred with a number of different girls and expensive cars that he has lost because one cannot be a soccer player forever.

It is going to be refreshing to see the other side, we hope these families will use their money wise and well and unlike those on I Blew It will get the financial literacy they need to sustain themselves and future generations.

Motlatsi is also part of the Judging panellists on a Mzansi Magic show that premiered last night Madiba Do Up. The show is in honour of Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday. The show will see schools compete for a renovation that will see their school provide all the necessities that the kids need.

Young kids between the ages of 7-10 will bring out their skills and talents and get together a show-stopping performance against the other schools. Each group of kids has a maximum of 15 kids and should the number specified, that will be an automatic disqualification. We cannot wait to see the kids belt it out for their respective schools over the coming weeks.
