Actress and model Mimi Nobuhle Mahlasela is embracing her new journey as a body-positive activist. Popularly known for her character as Aggie on SABC soapie “7de Laan”, Mahlasela is celebrating her body while also encouraging others to become more confident in their own skin.
Her aim is to use social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to shine the spotlight on issues of mental health by promoting body positivity.

During a recent interview with the “Expresso” show on S3, the Joburg born star said she feared cyberbullying when she first joined the video-sharing social network.

“I must say, at first, I was very hesitant to join TikTok, cause I thought this platform is not for me, I’m just going to be bullied. I’m not going to cope, “ said the star.
But when she started sharing her videos, she received an outpouring of support for her body-positive movement.
I received so much love and such an incredible growing interest.

“I realised as well that I could use this platform to start a dialogue about mental health issues, which is something that I struggle with, and I know a lot of people also struggle with.
Mahlasela told IOL that she hopes her activism will help start a “dialogue about self-love and encourage others to invest in protecting their peace and surround themselves doing things that make them happy.”

“Hurt people, hurt people. We can educate people who find pleasure in mocking others.

“We can talk until we are blue in the face and try to tell people to stop with negative comments, but the change begins with oneself to just be kind and spread love,” said Mahlasela, referring to the latest trend of body shamers, the most common form of cyberbullying.
On how she deals with trolls, Mahlasela said: “Some days, I honestly do put people in their place if they are being rude and disrespectful because we are human and people need to stop bashing ‘public figures’ because we are told to not respond – if you’re personally attacking me, I will call you to order. We need to all respect each other on these social media platforms. It’s simple. I just block and move on!”

Local singer Makhadzi was recently humiliated by trolls after a photograph of her performing on stage showing off the dark skin on her inner thighs went viral.

Taking to social media, Makhadzi pleaded with her social media users to stop “editing and sharing” the image and also urged fans to stop humiliating her. Hitting back at trolls, Makhadzi said: “Unfortunately, I cannot change my inner part … I’m like this and I’m proud

During an Instagram Q&A, the You’re The One hitmaker shared her experience of adjusting to staying in a different country far from home.

“It’s definitely been a huge learning curve. I’m learning a lot about myself which I’m grateful for. I miss my family and friends so much but I’m having a great ass time,” she wrote.

Elaine has been on a mission to get her music recognised on a global scale, and her big move to the US has got her closer to achieving that dream.

The 22-year-old singer who graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand earlier this year went on to shed light on how she managed to juggle her academics with her budding career.

“Time management, discipline and a really solid support structure helped me through my studies. My main priority was making sure I was always up to date because there’s nothing worse than catching up. There were also times I couldn’t make it to campus or lectures but I had a really solid study group and they were riding for me hard as ever during that time.” she said.

“Practising is currently the furthest thing on my mind. I did apply and get accepted to do my LLB this year but I decided to put that on hold because I’m not in a place where I can commit to that right now. I also didn’t enjoy the university experience. I’ll revisit it in the future but for now, strictly album mode.”

Why these Actors were fired from The Queen.

Mzansi Magic’s hit telenovela The Queen has experienced its fair share of actors leaving the show. Shona and Connie Ferguson, who produced the show, explained the high turnover saying that it is the nature of the industry. Characters come and go as telenovelas continuously reinvent the storyline.

However, sometimes the actors do not leave the show of their own accord. Below are some of the actors who were fired from The Queen.

Dineo Langa

Why these Actors were fired from The Queen

Actress and television presenter Dineo Langa who had been with the show since its first episode in 2016 was fired from The Queen after she allegedly asked for some time off to shoot another movie. Instead, she received a stern email from the producers telling her to not return to work after the lockdown.

Dineo who used to play the role of Kea Khoza later confirmed that she was fired from the telenovela. She revealed this in an Instagram post after a fan asked her about leaving The Queen. In the post, Dineo said,

“Ang’buyi mina ngaxoshwa (I am not coming back, I was fired)”.

Replying to another user she said: “My character was removed from the show. The character will be dying soon soon.”

Rami Chuene

Veteran actress Rami Chuene was also killed off from the hit television show after her relationship with the Fergusons deteriorated when she allegedly sided with fellow actress Vatiswa Ndaba. This is after the seasoned actress, wrote an open letter to sports, arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa, last year, highlighting her experiences working for the Fergusons. The letter was highly critical of the Fergusons.

Why these Actors were fired from The Queen

Chuene played the role of Gracious “T-Gom” Mabuza, a fiery, religious and gun-toting woman, who was wildly popular with the fans.

Confirming her exit from the show, Rami Chuene wrote,

“Yes, TGOM’s stint on #TheQueenMzansi has come to an end. Unfortunately, I won’t be getting into details as advised by my legal team. I still have to finish shooting and I’m hoping to execute as excellently, exceptionally and professionally as I always have. #TGOMNATION forever”.

Mlamli Mangcala

Actor Mlamli Mangcala who played the role of Captain Sthembiso Radebe on The Queen also left the show after making allegations of lies and deception. Mangcala claimed that he was being exploited by the Fergusons whom he alleged basically made him pay for him to appear on television.

Why these Actors were fired from The Queen

According to Mangcala, he had to cover his own travel and accommodation costs when travelling from Cape Town to Johannesburg to shoot. He also said that he never got the salary that he was promised as he would only get an increment of R100 when he negotiated his contract.

Sello Maake ka Ncube

Veteran actor Sello Maake ka Ncube who used to play the role of Kgosi also left The Queen under a cloud. However, ka Ncube did not give any details as to what had transpired to make him leave the show and instead said that the Fergusons were the only ones who could reveal the fuzzy details behind his exit from the show.

Why these Actors were fired from The Queen

Sello Maake Ka Ncube stated the following:

“The Fergusons can only be the one’s who will reveal the sketchy details surrounding my exit on the show. However, I can confirm that, there was something that went wrong between us but they are best suited in letting the public know of what the reasons were.”

The actor, however, expressed his support for Rami Chuene when she was fired from The Queen

Marah Louw

Seasoned television actress Marah Louw who played the role of Sis Boi on the Mzansi Magic show was also fired by the Fergusons after she apparently refused to shoot a scene which was too traumatic for her. Said Marah

“I refused because the storyline resembled an incident that is in my book. I told them that I was not going to re-enact my life in a soapie. I refused because it is the kind of incident that I would not want to go through again, let alone talking about it. I told them that they got the story from my book and there is a copyright issue involved. They asked another actress to act in the episode, which still hurt me.”

Louw also revealed that she was offered a per-call contract on the popular soapie which she found “insulting and disrespectful” considering her decades of experience in the industry.

Shona Ferguson later claimed that Marah was not fired from the show but was in and out of contract. A furious Marah punched back and shared a letter which proved that she had been fired by Ferguson Films.

So there you have it, five actors fired from The Queen and the reasons why.

Soon she will meet the sister whom she’s been kissing, hugging & dancing on…Happy 3rd Birthday,” she wrote.

Sibongile Mani maintains her innocence; says she is not guilty of theft

The Walter Sisulu University (WSU) student accused of stealing R14 million of NSFAS money maintained her innocence, despite admitting to the court that she blew R820 000 at 48 merchants in 73 days, after having picked up the error.

Sibongile Mani stands accused of theft for spending a portion of the millions credited into her student account on 1 June 2017.

The then accounting student was due to receive her monthly R1 400 food allowance, but because of what was described in court as a “ridiculous and absurd technical glitch”, R14 million was credited to her account.

The State charges that Mani failed to report the error and embarked on a spending spree.

According to the State, between 1 June, when the money landed in her account, until 13 August, when NSFAS uncovered the error, she had spent an average of R11 000 per day.

The money was transferred by Cape Town-based company Intellimali, which was contracted by WSU to disburse funds to its students.

On Tuesday, the State prosecutor in the four-year trial, advocate Luthando Makoyi, said Mani had admitted to many aspects of the indictment.

During closing arguments, Makoyi told the magistrate, Twanet Olivier, that Mani admitted she spent the money at 48 merchants in the Eastern Cape, Johannesburg, and Pretoria.

Makoyi added that Mani should be convicted of theft, saying she knew the money was not hers, but spent it.

He told Olivier that Mani admitted her student card was eventually blocked when the error was noticed.

Answering questions outside court, Mani told journalists:
The case is not about how the credit was spent. It’s about theft, and we are arguing against [the] theft charge. I am not guilty of theft.

Mani’s lawyer, Asanda Pakade, argued in court that there was no intention on his client’s part to acquire R14 million, nor to permanently deprive NSFAS of its property intentionally. Therefore, there was no theft.

Pakade submitted an application for Mani to be discharged at the conclusion of the State’s case, saying it had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that she stole the cash.

Olivier dismissed Pakade’s application.

Pakade said Mani signed a loan agreement with NSFAS to receive a monthly allowance of R1 400 and had no expectation of R14 million.

He said:
There was a mutual agreement between Mani and NSFAS. She never breached systems or made misrepresentation. The R14 million transfer was an error on the side of NSFAS.

Pakade said that, when she noticed the erroneous transfer, Mani reported the incident to NSFAS and Walter Sisulu University.

Pakade said this behaviour was not consistent with theft and, therefore, Mani could not be convicted.

But Makoyi argued:
If you receive money, you are not entitled to spend it, knowing that you’re not meant to receive it, you are guilty of theft.

Makoyi said the fact that Mani admitted she reported the erroneous transfer was an admission that she knew she was not entitled to the money she spent.

Pakade responded that there was a pre-existing agreement between Mani and NSFAS – and that the entity expected her to repay whatever amount she used upon finishing her studies and securing employment.

He added that Mani’s case had unique features, which set it apart from other theft cases.

Pakade told Olivier:
The entire evidence that was placed before you [by the State] is nothing short of evidence that seeks to invoke the feelings of the court by telling you how the money was spent – which is not the issue. The issue is whether the accused committed theft, intentionally stole from NSFAS.

Responding to the dismissed application outside the court, Pakade said: “It’s just a temporary inconvenience. We are still very much optimistic about our case, very much confident. When we return, we know that we will put this matter to bed.

“We still believe the State doesn’t have any case against our client. When we come back, rest assured that we will get an acquittal.”

Intellimali director Roy Jackson had testified in court that the erroneous transfer was believed to have been caused by a technical glitch.

This is why Minnie Dlamini wants a Baby Girl so badly

Minnie Dlamini is a proud mother to baby Makhosini Netha Jones who is a boy but she has hinted that a baby girl would be another great gift. Whilst doing her ambassadorial work for Ipanema South Africa, Minnie got to spend some time with cute baby girls, which gave her the idea that a baby girl wouldn’t be a bad idea.

“Ok but a baby girl would be epic!!!!! Just saying lol,” said Minnie who added that her shoes are perfect for mommy and daughter in the summer season.
When announcing that Mrs. Jones has joined their stable, Ipanema said their vegan sandals, adapt to just any environment. Minnie gave the company a thumbs up for their comfortable shoes.

This is why Minnie Dlamini wants a Baby Girl so badly

“A brand that encompasses the summer beach girl that I am truly feels like home. Sustainability and social responsibility has always been very important to me. Working with a brand that is a 100% recyclable Vegan, committed to preserving the beauty of this planet and keeping every woman looking fashionable with technology that gives us lasting comfort. What more can one ask for?
Minnie is currently in Durban, because which other city is best to enjoy summer in? “I’ve been living in Durban for almost a month now working looooong hours and to say I’m exhausted would be an understatement. However this is the longest period I’ve stayed in my home province since I left when I was 18 and I feel like my spirit is realigned. There’s something about this place that makes me a better human. This place is love,” she gushed.

Minnie caught some smoke on social media when she advertised for another skin care product when she has her very own, MD Skin. She said she had been using the product ever since she got pregnant which left fans very confused because why would she not use her own brand.

This is why Minnie Dlamini wants a Baby Girl so badly

Minnie recently promoted the Dermal Health skin products and said, “I’ve been working really long hours shooting and my skin usually takes a knock especially wearing make up everyday. I’ve been using @dermal_health since I was pregnant and I haven’t looked back since. My skin has never looked better,” she said.

“I’m OBSESSED!!! Not a single blemish or breakout and my skin is super sensitive. Here’s to keeping my money maker looking young and fresh.”

Users were not impressed:

@vuyelwa1212 said, “You now use that? Whilst we have MD skin fully stocked?” Other followers agree, with @asathipeter saying, “a true explanation that what she says about her own product is not true, as a result she is using something else.”

@thabang4real says they are being scammed. @dlaminiprincess.z asked her if she does not have her own skin care brand and why is she promoting others. Trying to make sense of this all was thenjiwv who said the product is in competition with other products so using Minnie would possibly win other people over.

“This product is competing with other like products. Minenhle’s line is not in the league of those products, getting to the league takes time, dermatological research etc. Even Unilever opted to buy Dermalogica than start their own product from scratch.
