Covid-19 hits gospel fraternity as Joyous Celebration and Spirit of Praise cancel concerts

Two of Mzansi’s biggest gospel shows, Joyous Celebration’s annual concert and Benjamin Dube’s Spirit of Praise, join the long list of big events that have been postponed. This after President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a state of disaster in SA on Sunday amid coronavirus.

With the Easter weekend weeks away, religious leaders and gospel artists stand to lose out on the usual large group fellowship- and the commercial value attached to it.

MTN Joyous Celebration announced that its national tour, which was scheduled for Carnival City in Brakpan over the Easter weekend, had been cancelled until further notice.

Covid-19 hits gospel fraternity as Joyous Celebration and Spirit of Praise cancel concerts

“Whist it is disappointing for us to cancel the shows at such short notice, as responsible citizens who are committed to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our cast, crew, supporters and stakeholders, we know it is our responsibility and in our best interest to do so”, said co-founder Lindelani Mkhize.

They had not decided or finalised when the concert would take place, he said, urging fans to stay calm and take care of themselves.

“We urge our broader Joyous family, as we all soldier on, to take care of your personal hygiene and do your bit to contain the spread of the outbreak and limit exposure so that we can have this virus arrested sooner rather than later, with no or minimal fatalities.”

Another big religious celebration that South Africans are concerned about is the annual Zion Christian Church’s (ZCC) pilgrimage to Moria, near Polokwane.

According to Jacaranda FM, the spokesperson for the office of Limpopo premier Kenni Mathiva said there would be two meetings in the next 24 hours to discuss the matter.

ZCC, one of the largest churches in the country and Africa, gathers all its members at church headquarters in Moria annually over the Easter weekend.

Meanwhile, Spirit of Praise said on social media that its event had been postponed until September.

Actress Nomzamo Mbatha breathes fire – Threatens to expose ex-boyfriend Maps Maponyane

Many speculated that he cheated on the actress and she was tired of keeping quiet about what went down between them.

A seemingly innocent picture between Maps Maponyane and a fan has irked his ex-girlfriend Nomzamo Mbatha.

The drama started when Maps shared several pictures from a recent event he attended. One of the images showed him hugging a woman whose face could not be seen.

Some of Maps’ Instagram followers thought the woman looked like Nomzamo.

“Oh my God I was praying for you and Nomzamo to get back together. My prayer has been answered my favourite couple,” one fan commented.

But the Buns Out founder was quick to set the record straight. “Nah that’s just @leddi_g,” he replied.

The handle he provided was for an influencer named Naledi Radebe, who looks nothing like Nomzamo. She was also tagged in the picture.

With that settled, everyone moved on with their lives until Nomzamo spotted a story about the incident on her Twitter timeline. The post read: “Maps and Nomzamo not back together, confirmed after fan jumps the gun.”

The actress retweeted the post with a shocking warning aimed at Masego, aka Maps.

“Not now. Not ever. Masego, stop taking advantage of my silence and choice to be graceful through it all. Shake this can one more time and I’ll open it. @MapsMaponyane you made your bed. Lie in it,” she wrote.

Some Twitter users were more interested in what Nomzamo had on Maps. Many speculated that he cheated on the actress and she was tired of keeping quiet about what went down between them.

Nomzamo has since deleted the tweeted but her fans think she had every right to put Maps on blast.

Will we ever know what really happened between Maps and Nomzamo? Twitter users are hoping he does something to annoy Nomzamo one more so she can open the can of worms!

Nomzamo and Maps both started trending on Twitter with many tweeps weighing in on the drama.

GOOD NEWS: Domestic workers can now claim for injuries sustained at work

GOOD NEWS: Domestic workers can now claim for injuries sustained at work

Federation wants it tabled in parliament within 30 days, citing delay since 2018.

Cabinet’s approval of the Compensation of Injury on Duty Amendment Bill will benefit about 800 000 domestic workers in South Africa who will be able to claim for injuries sustained on duty.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Domestic Services and Allied Workers Union welcomed Cabinet’s approval of the Bill last Thursday and insisted it should be tabled in parliament within 30 days.

“There are about 800 000 domestic workers in South Africa. They are among the most exploited and abused workers. To date, they have not been allowed to claim for injuries on duty,” said Matthew Parks, Cosatu’s parliamentary coordinator.

He said the Bill was critical to ensure domestic workers were able to claim for injuries on duty from the Compensation Fund and that employers would be held liable for any negligence.

Parks said Cosatu condemned the slow pace at which the government and parliament had moved to approve the Bill, which had resulted in a number of domestic workers not being able to claim for injuries suffered while on duty.

“Nedlac [National Economic Development and Labour Council] processed the Bill in June 2018. Almost two years later, despite repeated commitments to do so, government has still not tabled it in parliament.

“This has resulted in thousands of injured domestic workers being left unprotected and uninsured,” he pointed out.

Parks said that matter was won at the Supreme Court last year and was now before the Constitutional Court. “Cosatu is confident the Constitutional Court will find in favour of domestic workers.”

According to the domestic services union Western Cape organiser Gloria Kente, the approval of the Bill was a major breakthrough for domestic workers, as they had been advocating for the passing of the Bill since 1993.

Kente, a former victim of abuse who was spat on and called the k-word by her former employer’s boyfriend, said many domestic workers had been abused by employers.

Cape Town traffic officer shot dead after arresting a taxi driver, murderer flees after incident

Cape Town traffic officer shot dead after arresting a taxi driver, murderer flees after incident

A traffic officer has been shot and killed after he allegedly arrested a taxi driver in Kensington, Cape Town, on Tuesday morning.

According to statement by Western Cape police, the 49-year-old officer was killed in Acre Road in Kensington by a suspect who he had arrested for disobeying the rules of the road. The officer had been on his way to the Maitland police station with the suspect when he was allegedly attacked and shot dead with his service pistol in Acre Way.

The Western Cape police has launched a manhunt for the man who fled after allegedly killing the 49-year-old traffic officer. The cMayor Dan Plato has authorised a R50 000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer. The City of Cape Town said it is “shocked, saddened and angered by the senseless murder” of the traffic officer.

“On behalf of the City, I want to convey my deepest condolences to the family of the officer. We will assist them in any way possible through this very difficult time,” said mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith.

“Our officers are there to serve and protect, but there is a troubling attitude of carelessness and disrespect towards them, disparaging the vital work they do. They put their lives on the line daily and what should have been a routine stop has turned into a tragedy. I have asked the Safety and Security Investigations Unit to assist the South African Police Service where possible to ensure that we find the killer. In addition, all our enforcement agencies – Traffic Service, Law Enforcement, Metro Police and specialised units – are working on an operation to clamp down on taxis to ensure the perpetrator is brought to book. This will be rolled out city-wide.

“Taxi enforcement takes place around the clock and we will intensify these operations. Law enforcement on all levels is a tough and dangerous job, but we must do all we can to dissuade attacks. It can’t just be that our officers are murdered and it’s business as usual. We call on members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in bringing the person responsible for this heinous act to book.

“The executive mayor has authorised a R50 000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer. In addition, R5 000 is offered by the Safety and Security Directorate for information that will lead to his arrest. There are men and women of character willing to serve selflessly so we can live and go about our daily business securely. We owe them the support and services they need to do their jobs safely.”

ircumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, Traut said.

Tweeps reacted to the post, many were pointing at a Zulu man and that is Lunga Shabalala.

When a woman says this and doesn’t really say what this so called good man has done, there’s more chances it is just trash! Wishing women to get a good man is good though. Not so many good men today.

Thando recently said, she can’t wait to be a mom, clearly now she can because there is someone who has the key to her heart.

Sbwl that guy also, because clearly he is doing the most kwa love.

6 things that might surprise you about star Makhadzi Muimbi

6 things that might surprise you about star Makhadzi Muimbi

Cape Town – Say her name in Venda, Limpopo, and fans start singing her praises.

She’s been compared to late stars Lebo Mathosa and Brenda Fassie. And she tested her diva-like tendencies by showing up at this year’s Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival in a royal chair carried by security guards.

Makhadzi Muimbi (23) believes entertainment is a calling. We catch up with the young singer.

  1. SHE’S DATING MASTER KG

While rumours have been flying around for months that musician Makhadzi and Master KG are dating, the lass has laid the dating gossip to rest.

She let the cat out of the bag in a birthday post in late January dedicated to her beau, Master KG. The hopeless romantic gushed about her man.

“When you are lucky to have the best man in the world whom you love and who loves you in return, it becomes a sin to ask more from God. Happy birthday, my love @masterkgsa.”

  1. PEOPLE YOU’D LOVE TO COLLABORATE WITH?

DJ Tira is my role model. He’s hard-working and is good at spotting talent. DJ Maphorisa – he’s versatile and can make any sound work. Prince Kaybee’s story inspires me. He started out in a competition and he made the most of it – look at him now.

DJ Ganyani because he’s also from Limpopo and always represents home well. I’d also say Sho Madjozi but that dream has already come true! I have one song with her, Ro Rali, and will be releasing another one titled Limpopo Champions League in November.

  1. THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY?

Music is my life and it always changes my mood. Dancing – I started out as a dancer at the age of 12. I’d run away from home and dance at the mall for money. I love drama, which is what I’m currently studying at The State Theatre in Pretoria. And, lastly, being around positive people.

  1. WISE RULES YOU LIVE BY?

Always remain humble. Remember where you come from. Always stay true to yourself.

  1. OF THE BEST PLACES YOU’VE PERFORMED AT?

I performed in France last year and got in an airplane for the first time in my life. I sang in Tshivenda. I thought they wouldn’t love my music as they don’t understand the language but the crowd went insane. I also loved performing at the Royal Heritage Festival – I killed it.

  1. THING YOU DO EVERY DAY?

I gym every day, even weekends, in the morning and the evening. I have a personal trainer and he makes sure I don’t gain weight.
