6 things that might surprise you about star Makhadzi Muimbi

Cape Town – Say her name in Venda, Limpopo, and fans start singing her praises.

She’s been compared to late stars Lebo Mathosa and Brenda Fassie. And she tested her diva-like tendencies by showing up at this year’s Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival in a royal chair carried by security guards.

Makhadzi Muimbi (23) believes entertainment is a calling. We catch up with the young singer.

  1. SHE’S DATING MASTER KG

While rumours have been flying around for months that musician Makhadzi and Master KG are dating, the lass has laid the dating gossip to rest.

She let the cat out of the bag in a birthday post in late January dedicated to her beau, Master KG. The hopeless romantic gushed about her man.

“When you are lucky to have the best man in the world whom you love and who loves you in return, it becomes a sin to ask more from God. Happy birthday, my love @masterkgsa.”

  1. PEOPLE YOU’D LOVE TO COLLABORATE WITH?

DJ Tira is my role model. He’s hard-working and is good at spotting talent. DJ Maphorisa – he’s versatile and can make any sound work. Prince Kaybee’s story inspires me. He started out in a competition and he made the most of it – look at him now.

DJ Ganyani because he’s also from Limpopo and always represents home well. I’d also say Sho Madjozi but that dream has already come true! I have one song with her, Ro Rali, and will be releasing another one titled Limpopo Champions League in November.

  1. THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY?

Music is my life and it always changes my mood. Dancing – I started out as a dancer at the age of 12. I’d run away from home and dance at the mall for money. I love drama, which is what I’m currently studying at The State Theatre in Pretoria. And, lastly, being around positive people.

  1. WISE RULES YOU LIVE BY?

Always remain humble. Remember where you come from. Always stay true to yourself.

  1. OF THE BEST PLACES YOU’VE PERFORMED AT?

I performed in France last year and got in an airplane for the first time in my life. I sang in Tshivenda. I thought they wouldn’t love my music as they don’t understand the language but the crowd went insane. I also loved performing at the Royal Heritage Festival – I killed it.

  1. THING YOU DO EVERY DAY?

I gym every day, even weekends, in the morning and the evening. I have a personal trainer and he makes sure I don’t gain weight.
