Simphiwe Ngema shares tips to Grow a successful Business

Whilst COVID-19 has changed the way business is being done, many entrepreneurs and business owners are turning to technology for new opportunities.

Simphiwe Ngema shares tips to Grow a successful Business

Actress Simphiwe Ngema says that one of the great things about technology is that it has made it possible for entrepreneurs to access information, customers, and potential investors without needing to leave their homes.

The founder of EternalCrush and a Gold Series Perfumes Brand Ambassador, has shared her tips on how during these unsettling times, she has continued to grow her business.

‘It’s my experience that a quality product or service paired with a healthy dose of determination can go a long way to ensuring business success. The lockdown does not have to mean the end of a dream, ambition or business idea, in fact, it could lead to many opportunities.” says Simz.

Here are Simz tips for growing a business from home:

Simphiwe Ngema shares tips to Grow a successful Business

  1. Increase your online presence

It is important to make it easy for your customers to reach you, whether it’s on social media or via your website.

Increasing your online presence creates new opportunities for your business and will help you leverage more exposure on social media. As an entrepreneur, your customers are your main source of income, consciously engaging and communicating with them consistently will help drive sales and traffic to your website.

  1. Be part of an ecosystem

It is often said that it takes an ecosystem to create a successful start-up. As an entrepreneur, it is important to recognise the need to connect, collaborate and exchange ideas with other like-minded individuals and entrepreneurs.

Ecosystems are not just communities in which to network, but also to learn from the mistakes of others, gain great referrals, as well as you, gain a support system that can help you pick yourself up on the hard days. Look out for relevant groups on Facebook, or join a local co-working space to spend time in once it’s safe (for the moment, you might benefit from a virtual membership).

“I also ensure that I show up and take part in industry events to help grow my business and other businesses that I support like Gold Series”.

  1. Time management

Time management is important! No one is productive 24/7. Set aside time to work on your personal development and learning opportunities, and time to work on your business.

As an entrepreneur, you need to find a routine or time management software that will help you increase your productivity and track and measure your efforts and activities. It’s also important to set boundaries so that your work starts and ends at certain times, leaving weekends and evenings free to spend with family and friends.

Rasta’s Painting of Bob Mabena Leaves twitter Confused

Mzansi has unfortunately lost another one of its treasures, Bob Mabena and artist Rasta has not failed to deliver on one of his famous portraits.

Rasta has created quite the reputation for himself when it comes portraits of Mzansi famous faces who have passed on. The artist usually unveils the pieces on the day of the funerals and of course leaves everyone scratching their heads with his interpretations.

On Saturday, the popular artist paid his respects to the radio broadcaster with his portrait, which he created outside Bob’s home.

Rasta’s portrait has sparked quite the debate on Twitter with some saying the artist needs to be stopped after yet another botched portrait. His portrait of Bob looks more like actor Menzi Ngubane instead of the late Power FM radio host.

Some tweeps are even beginning to suspect that Rasta might have had some assistance with his portrait of late Apartheid struggle stalwart, Tata Andrew Mlangeni because he has now returned to his old ways.

Generations: The Legacy actress Zoe Mthiyane (Zitha) in court

Generations: The Legacy actress Zoe Mthiyane’s off the screen acts nearly landed her deeper in trouble with the law.

Zitha, as she is affectionately known in the popular SABC telenovela, appeared at the Randburg Magistrates Court this week on charges of reckless and negligent driving.

Since her arrest in December last year, Mthiyane tried to write her own script, which include skipping her bail conditions of appearing in court till the case is finalised.

Her actions of failing to appear in court saw the court issuing a warrant of her arrest on three different occasions. The SunTeam can reveal the first warrant of her arrest was issued in December, shortly after she was arrested for reckless and negligent driving.

The warrant was then withheld for her next court appearance in January where she produced evidence that her failure to pitch in court was compelling.

But in April, she was back at it again and failed to appear in court and the court issued another warrant of arrest. The court also cancelled her R1 500 bail in the process.

On her next court appearance, she told the court that she was on self-isolation because of Covid-19. The court accepted her reasons and cancelled the warrant and also reinstated her bail conditions. In June, the court issued another warrant of her arrest but again withheld it because the court was on lockdown after some court officials had tested positive for coronavirus.

Daily Sun reported last year that Mthiyane was arrested in Fourways for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The People’s Paper can also reveal that since her arrest, Mthiyane has been trying to evade prosecution by making representations to the Director of Public Prosecution at the Randburg Magistrates Court.

But all her representations failed to convince the DPP. Her case was postponed to next month for mediation.

300,000 people arrested for breaking lockdown rules – Police Minister Bheki Cele speaks out

Police arrested and charged nearly 300,000 people for contravening lockdown laws, police minister Bheki Cele said on Friday.

He was speaking at the release of the crime statistics for the first quarter of the 2020/2021 financial year in Pretoria.

He said that of the 298,252 people arrested and charged, 181,579 were released on warning to appear before a court.

“28,337 of those arrested were found guilty of violations ranging from liquor, gathering, transport, business and cross-border related offences. Unfortunately, most of the people arrested will come out with criminal records and it is not our aim to criminalise South Africans. This is why the minister of justice and correctional services is looking at this issue,” Cele said.

Cele said that the figures for the lockdown period “show a reduction in crimes committed against women and children”.

“However, the low numbers of domestic abuse and sexual offences reported cases could have been due to some women not being able to escape their abusers and could not report crimes committed against them,” he said.

The ban on alcohol also made a difference, he said.

“It is equally important to acknowledge that the unavailability of alcohol also had a role to play. This is evident in the decreased numbers of cases of contact crimes which plummeted by 37.4%.

“This means there were 53,891 fewer cases of murder, attempted murder, assault GBH, common robbery and common assault reported compared to the same reporting period.

“There has also been a big drop in the number of sexual offences … [there was] a 39.7% drop in crimes such as rape and sexual assault. A 40.4% decrease in the number of rape cases were reported during the three months,” he said.

However, with schools largely closed and alcohol banned, Cele said that criminals targeted these facilities and businesses.

“Worryingly, there has been an increased number of attacks on schools and liquor outlets during this time. 2,692 burglaries were reported at educational premises and 1,246 liquor outlets were targeted,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cele admitted that many criminal cops operated within the force.

“While we have a police service that strives for blue excellence, some within our ranks still choose to operate in darkness and in criminality. 163 officers were arrested from the start of lockdown from violating the very same lockdown regulations they were meant to enforce.

“We are also hopeful that the Police Independent Investigative Directorate will bring finality, in its investigations into allegations of police brutality, including allegations of death at the hands of SAPS and armed forces,” he said.

AKA calls for alcohol ban to be lifted as he hits hard times

AKA has again spoken out on the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, explaining that he has a team who rely on him for financial support.

The star recently joined the #SaveMyLivelihood trend on Twitter, which details many South Africans’ struggles in the midst of the pandemic and nationwide lockdown.

In his post AKA said that he had a team working for him and any lost gigs affected not only him, but the entire team.

“I have a team of people who rely on me. I can’t perform, I can’t sell my product and I can’t tour.”

He acknowledged that he is “privileged”, despite his struggles.

“While I might be privileged, the same cannot be said for so many artists and start-ups in this country who have gone for 5 months without income,” he added.

AKA’s comments come as he continues to call for an end to the ban on alcohol sales, and advocates for the reopening of the economy.

“Alcohol is simply the scapegoat here for bad planning in terms of infrastructure to handle the pandemic.

“No doubt lives are important. What about livelihoods? The alcohol industry employs so many people and is so large that it makes up 4.4% of the GDP (look it up, it’s a FACT). You cannot simply switch that off without a plan and without warning,” he told fans last month.

He also warned that “jobs are going to be lost on a massive scale”.

“There is definitely a harmful side to alcohol abuse, no question about that. My question to you is what are the effects of losing close to a million jobs?”

Weighing in on possible relief for creatives through the department of sports, arts and culture, AKA suggested the amount he would potentially get in relief was not enough.

“I am not retrenched and I am not unemployed. I am trying to not retrench people and I am self-employed. You guys are not going to force me to be grateful for R2k from the government. It does not mean s**t to me,” he said.
