Mzansi mourns Gospel singer Kenny Makweng
Gospel singer Kenny Makweng, hailing from Dennilton in Limpopo, has sadly passed away at the age of 54, two weeks after being hospitalized. Makweng, known for his contributions to gospel music as a member of the group The Rock, suffered a stroke due to brain complications on January 4th.
The news of Makweng’s passing was confirmed by his management company, KennyMak Productions, in a statement released this morning. The statement expressed deep sadness and informed the public of the gospel icon’s untimely demise after a brief illness. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time and has asked for prayers for Makweng’s family, associates, and friends. Kenny Makweng gained prominence as a ZCC gospel star, known for his soul-stirring songs such as “Lengeloi Laka,” “Ingwe ya mabalabala,” and “Ke Mosione.” He embarked on his music career in the 1990s and was a member of the acclaimed group The Rock, which released over 10 albums. Unfortunately, Makweng is not the only member of the group to have passed away, as Mojeremane, Oleseng, and Nkosana have also left this world.
