Polygamist Musa Mseleku speaks on being the most hated man in South Africa

Polygamist Musa Mseleku speaks on being the most hated man in South Africa

Musa Mseleku is the viewers’ worst enemy on Mnakwethu, which has come under a lot of criticism from those who watch it.

In the show, Mseleku (45) helps hapless men who are interested in isithembu, or polygamy. This has led many to question the integrity of the show. But despite the backlash, he said he would do it again if given another chance.

Mseleku became known when he first introduced viewers to his four wives in the show, Uthando Nesthembu. The popular reality show also featured polygamy. He told City Press he enjoyed Mnakwethu and he felt it was an extension of his life.

“It has been good to listen to the number of reasons people would love to lead a polygamous lifestyle and the challenges they cited. Most men had a great fear of losing their wives and there’s a stigma that even though some people have no money they still have the courage to want to marry more than one woman. It’s not all about money,” Mseleku said, describing the show as revolutionary.

“When our people were displaced, they were not only physically affected; they were also emotionally and spiritually displaced because their cultural beliefs were taken away from them.”

The father of 10 said that isithembu had been a good traditional institution of marriage that had prevented a number of social ills, “therefore we need to correct this through these platforms”.

“I must say I would be more comfortable helping men who have already discussed taking a second wife with their wives. To me, those are real men who have shown courage.”

He emphasized that permission from the first wife was critical.

He said he went on the show knowing the risks involved and expected the backlash.

“I am dealing with 300 years of oppression during which our culture has been belittled and misinterpreted as inhuman and given all sorts of names.

“So I went in expecting people to have different and strong views on the matter,” Mseleku said.

But he said he would miss the show.

“I will miss the ordinary men who had an ambition to have isithembu. I will also miss listening to the reasons they wanted to lead this lifestyle and the faces of the wives when they saw me coming because they knew it could mean only one thing – that their husbands wanted to take a second wife.”

He said his highlights included “seeing the side chicks”, who wanted to enter into polygamy without clearly understanding what they were getting themselves into – thinking they were better than the first wives.

“My lows included witnessing the level of disrespect shown by the side chicks to the wives,” said Mseleku. It is unclear whether there will be a second season. Mseleku said that, whether there was criticism or not, he would definitely come back to host another season.

The show’s producer, Nthabi Thomas, said polygamy had always been practised and the only thing they did differently as producers was to take the cameras, tell a story and provide a platform on screen.

“The show just highlights what is already happening out there. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so we can’t really dictate how they should respond to the show. We knew it would ruffle a few feathers,” she said, adding that many men were already cheating or wanted polygamous relationships but were too scared to do anything about it. “This show was established to help them to get the permission they want,” she said.

The channel denied staging episodes and paying contestants.

Twitter shocked with a different side of Zahara

Social media could not get enough of Zahara as the star went on Instagram live and showed off her goofy side. The musician had a fun session with her fans when they suggested songs she should sing. She then attempted to sing the national anthem and it did not go as expected. Her botched attempt to sing the Afrikaans part of the anthem is what amused fans even more.

During the live session, Zahara seems jovial as she goofed up most of the songs her fans requested her to sing. She can be seen holding her forehead many times, leaving many people to assume that she was intoxicated.

When the trolls came for the Loliwe hitmaker, fans quickly came to her defense, warning people to stop assuming that she was drunk when it was just innocent fun.

It is often said, “A family that prays together, stays together. Ayanda and Joseph are a true testament of this. The couple met during the Passover Conference at their church was back in 2012. He was the MC and his presence on stage was felt by Ayanda. Funny enough, he had also spotted her in the crowd. After the service, he walked up to her and introduced himself and contact numbers were exchanged. This was the start of something beautiful. Several Sundays after, he told her he’d like them to be friends forever, but she didn’t say much at that point. She needed to be sure about his intentions.

They both knew they wanted to do things the right way, so she suggested he talks to her parents. At first, her mom was a little sceptical but they eventually came around after a while. Lobola was paid and the couple moved in together. After a year, they had a son and a baby girl a few years later.

His permit application took longer than he had anticipated and this came as a challenge because he was not able to return to South Africa after a visit home in 2015. Ayanda and the children had to return home, alone. His application was denied twice and when he was able to return to South Africa, he had a hard time tracking his family at first. Luckily, Joseph was able to track his family and after a while, they were able to start a business together, which they manage together.

A few people tend to forget that Dineo Langa (née Moeketsi) has quite the vocal pipes as she has been slaying the acting game more than dropping music.

The star, however, has reminded her fans and followers of her other talent. In a recent video, Dineo gave them a glimpse of her other talent.

Dineo joined her husband musician Solo in a freestyle session, this week and showed off her amazing vocal pipes.

The couple did the freestyle over Pretty Little Liars by 6lack.

“The lockdown gave my person the perfect excuse to challenge me to dust off those vocals yesterday,” shared Dineo on Instagram.

A few years ago, Dineo actually featured on Solo’s track The Frolic with Kabomo but it has been a while since the actress actually released any music.

Dineo may not always be in front of the mic but she has been super supportive of her man’s career and at Solo’s show, The Dreamer’s ABCs, at the Joburg Theatre late last year, Mrs Langa sang alongside Solo.

Feeling anxious during lockdown? Makgotso M has some advice for you

Feeling anxious during lockdown? Makgotso M has some advice for you

Actress Makgotso M, like many of us, has had a bit of a downer since the start of the 21-day lockdown to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The star took to Instagram recently to share with her followers that they are not the only ones who are going through the most during this trying time.

“For the past two weeks I have been feeling very down, I have not been motivated to do anything, especially after my trip. I had to force myself to do some things and I felt very lazy,” she admitted.

She shared her coping mechanism and told her fans that since they have plenty of time on their hands, they need to carefully guard their thoughts.

“During the lockdown, you have a lot of time to be with your thoughts, and that can be a very dark place.”

Makgotso said people need to renew their minds by checking what they are thinking about.

“Watch and listen to things that will uplift and encourage you and things that will get you to the right frame of mind. Once the mind is defeated, you are defeated, because if you lose your mind what do you have? I want to encourage everyone to look after their minds and that’s very important.”

Makgotso shared that what keeps her going during the lockdown is spending time with the word of God and constant prayer.

“My mind is full of the content that I’m constantly looking at all the time, especially during this difficult time. We have goals and things that we want to achieve physically, emotionally and spiritually, so let’s use this time to do that.”

The actress encouraged her fans to make friends on the internet and pleaded with them not to isolate themselves mentally.

“Let’s use this time to be comfortable with people, talk with people and stay connected at all times. I would like to send a shout-out to the doctors, nurses, soldiers and people who are working at supermarkets, and every person who is still out there serving the public. I pray for God’s protection upon your lives.”

Beer loving Pabi Moloi suspended from Power FM

Beer loving Pabi Moloi suspended from Power FM

Popular radio host suspended after being rude to caller

The customer is always right and is said to be king too, no one can go against a king and get away with it. A prominent radio host learnt this lesson the hard way after she was suspended for being rude to a caller.

Power FM presenter Pabi Moloi’s alleged bad behaviour saw a number of listeners baying for her blood, they want the station to penalise her for harming the radio’s reputation, bringing its name into disrepute.

She allegedly sounded a bit rude and treated a caller in an improper way during her show. The ‘customer being the king’ prevailed and the popular radio and TV personality Pabi has since been suspended from her Power FM job.

While on suspension, the station is taking the time to look into the matter, some believe the host who is not new to crossing boundaries, could have been under the influence of some sort of drugs or alcohol. She was at one time arrested for drinking and driving at the beginning of this year.

Power FM MD Leslie Ntloko confirmed that Moloi was serving a suspension from the station pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We can confirm that we have placed her on suspension pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Unfortunately we can’t comment further as this is an internal matter,” he said.

According to some of her workmates, she indeed acted in a manner which would bring the name of the station into disrepute. They say she humiliated a caller live on air when she told the caller to observe punctuations, full stops and commas, when talking.

“That was so embarrassing and humiliating. From there the station manager Leslie Ntloko was inundated with phone calls from the listeners asking if Pabi was drunk or [if] she was sick. Some demanded that she be fired from her job for bringing the station into disrepute,” said the station employee.

However, it is alleged there seems to be some beefiness between her and other senior employees at the station. According to another worker who declined to be named, some were calling stiffer punishment against her, but that was not to be, as it was yet to be established if she was indeed under the influence of drugs or not.

“But they can charge her with bringing the station into disrepute by humiliating the listener,” said the employee. Efforts by the local publication to get a comment from Moloi were fruitless.
