Sour Grapes: Skeem Saam Producers Do The Unthinkable After Rachel Kunutu Quits

When Lesego Marakalla, announced that she was leaving Skeem Saam after nearly a decade of playing Rachel Kunutu, the popular SABC 1 soapie’s producers and creator were apparently devastated and didn’t take the news well.

According to sources they felt like it was a big stab in the back as they had given the young actress a chance and made her a household name. South Africans loved the rebellious character and could relate with her. The soapie released a statement saying

“Lesego is leaving, so she can go back to school full time and that, she isn’t sure if she will ever return to acting”.

Lesego expressed her sadness at leaving the soapie, her gratitude for all the friendships and memories made.

“I will miss my Skeem Saam family dearly. I have been with the show for 8 years and I have created some good friendships and memories!” Lesego expressed.

There are also three actresses that haven’t been in the soapie for a while; Candice (played by Liza van Deventer), Eunice (played by Oratile Maitisa) and 81year old Koko Mantsha (played by Lydia Mokgokoloshi) who sources say, has gone into retirement.

So what makes Lesego’s character different from others?

The writers had huge plans for Rachel Kunutu, a lot of characters’ storylines revolved around her character; Marothi Maphuthuma (her on-screen husband), her on-screen mother; Celia Kunutu and her uncle; Charles Kunutu.

They had made her a permanent character, unlike many actresses who were written out or left and were on-call actors.

Apparently there were many secret meetings with the actress to try to convince her to stay, with sources stating that they even offered her a salary hike but the actress was adamant and had had enough of the industry.

I mean, who studies full-time these days when there are so many distance learning institutions available? Lesego is an award-winning, talented actress who, like Motshidi Motshegwa cannot handle the limelight; she loves the craft but hates what comes with it.

On the latest cover of the soapie’s woman’s month cover on social media, the soapie included all the actresses, including actresses that we haven’t seen in a long time like; Eunice (Oratile Maitisa) and Candice (Liza van Deventer), but excluded Lesego.

Kwaito star Mshoza goes for divorce from hubby, found herself a new man

It’s quite hard to keep up with musician Mshoza‘s love life, she may try to keep it under wraps but it somehow manages to make headlines.

The star has split from hubby Prince Dlamini just five months after tying the knot at Home Affairs in February.

“All I can confirm is that I’m not in a relationship now, what does that mean? Yes, I can confirm that I’m not in a relationship,” Mshoza confirmed to Sunday World.

The Kwaito singer has now been linked to Nigerian producer and singer Oluwa Kuwait who currently lives in Cape Town. The romance was first reported on by Daily Sun in early July with the star confirming that she is “in love”.

Oluwa and Mshoza are said to have met at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town before the lockdown and was meant to be a brief stay in the Mother City for Mshoza turned into a four-day stay.

Mshoza’s mother in law Dudu Nkosi, however, seems to be in the dark about her son’s split from Mshoza and was shocked when contacted by Sunday World.

“I speak to her every day and no one told me anything. I wouldn’t know because I don’t live with them, even my son has not told me anything about that. I’m shocked.” she said.

Prince Kaybee Pressured To Give Up His SAMAs Award – He Has Pledged It To Master KG

In a surprising twist of events, Gugulethu hitmaker Prince Kaybee has pledged one of his awards to the ‘more deserving, rightful owner’, Master KG and Nomcebo for their global hit song Jerusalema.

This after the SAMAs snubbed the duo on their 2020 awards where Prince Kaybee is nominated 9 times.

Master KG is currently sitting at number 44 as the only South African artist on the Global Artist Rankings.

His hit song Jerusalema with 50 million views on YouTube has been so viral and influential across the globe that there has been recordings and cover versions of the song in Spanish and French.

But the SAMAs organizers deliberately snubbed him on their upcoming awards ceremony. In fact, all Limpopo artists – the likes of Majozi who made headlines with her hit song John Cena and Makhadzi of the Amatorokisi fame – were all sidelined.

After so much public backlash Prince Kaybee had this to say on Twitter; ” If I win Song Of The Year this year at the SAMAS I am gonna go get that award edited to “Master KG Ft Nomcebo – Jerusalem.” That’s just my contribution to what they have achieved this year.”

He has pledged his award because he believes they deserved it and as support for the duo on their global fame.

The Real Reason Shona Ferguson Fired Himself From The Queen

The Real Reason Shona Ferguson Fired Himself From The Queen

When veteran actress, Mara Louw was on SABC 2’s soapie; Muvhango in 2003, she was earning R65 000 for her role. When she was ridiculed for demanding a “higher fee” on The Queen, Louw left the show, which apparently led to her being blacklisted and uncompensated by Ferguson’s Films.

When Vatiswa Ndara refused to return to Igazi because Ferguson Film’s offered her a “lower fee” of R120 000 the company ‘postponed’ shooting of Igazi. Although Sello Maake ka Ncube has not revealed the reasons for his departure from The Queen, one can only guess that it has everything to do with being burnt out and being undervalued as well.

So, over the years we’ve concluded that Ferguson Films can’t really afford the premium, veteran actors, yet they recently just bagged four A-list actors for their season five of The Queen. Hmmm…

How can they afford Rapulana Seiphemo, Menzi Ngubane, Jessica Nkosi, Brenda Ngxoli and Kenneth Nkosi at the same time? I won’t begin to mention Duma Ntando because she’s not in the same league or tax bracket as the above mentioned.

Before I discuss my theory, I did mention in my previous article that I truly believe that Shona Ferguson’s leaving of the show is purely a PR stunt. He had to end his role, so they can remain with a leg to stand on.

First of all Rapulana Seiphemo wouldn’t leave ‘Generations The Legacy’ for a lower salary scale of R70k to R120k. Menzi Ngubane’s earned around R50k to R100k on Isibaya, while Jessica Nkosi, Kenneth Nkosi and Brenda’s salary scale is around R30k to R70k. Despite the three actor’s salary scale being approximately on the same level, Brenda and Kenneth’s might be slightly lower than Jessica’s because they’ve been out of the game for a while. Brenda’s role on The River doesn’t count because she was a supporting actress and Duma Ntando is coming in cheaper because she doesn’t have as much experience as everyone else (mentioned).

So all these big names and where is the steep pocket coming from to pay them, the answer: Shona’s salary. He put himself on the chopping block, it’s like the game of Survivor; outwit, outplay and outlast. I don’t see any of these actors lasting that long on because let’s face it, besides their tainted image, the show has bigger fish to fry. The scriptwriters appear to have hit a writer’s block, since season two.

So, when Louw, Ndara and Maake wanted a raise, they apparently told them “we can’t increase your salary because we don’t have the funds or they’re too out of our budget” chances are, they probably just spurned them because no production company is doing that well during a pandemic.

Latest on High school dropout & fake Doctor, Nokwanda Ndlovu: She is suspected of mental health problem

A 23-year-old KwaZulu-Natal woman, Nokwanda Ndlovu, will soon exchange her civilian clothes for a hospital gown.

This after Nkandla regional magistrate Morne Swanepoel on Monday ruled that the woman be sent to Fort Napier hospital for mental evaluation.

Ndlovu, who was represented by a legal aid lawyer, made a short appearance in the Nkandla regional court on a fraud charge for allegedly posing as a medical intern at a hospital in Nkandla.

The court heard from a report compiled by a psychiatric specialist that Ndlovu had no signs of psychosis, however, the psychiatrist could not make a conclusive determination on her mental state as she failed to appear for a second session.

“Based on my initial assessment there were no obvious signs of psychosis. I was not able to carry out the second examination since the accused did not arrive for the second appointment.

Man who ghosted actress Candice Modiselle 5 years ago back again

Candice Modiselle has opened up on Twitter about interacting with a man who ghosted her roughly five years ago.

The presenter says the encounter happened on an Instagram live stream, with the man showering the comment sections with heart emojis.

The former Yo.TV presenter went on to comment about the “audacity” of the man.

“A man that ghosted me five years ago reappeared in the comments section of my IG Live today, heart emojis and all. A man may have nothing but audacity – they don’t lack the liver,” said Candice.

Many replied with their own stories of being ghosted. Twitter user Nomathuba Nkehli shared her experience about how she went from being ghosted to being in control.

The former Generations: The Legacy actress has been vocal about sexism and gender-based violence, and as far back as 2017 called out men who need to do better.

“We always hear of women sharing notes on how to not become the next victim. Where are the men holding seminars for men on being better men?” asked the star.

Mzansi ‘Uncancels’ The Fergusons

Mzansi ‘Uncancels’ The Fergusons

Mzansi 'Uncancels' The Fergusons

The Fergusons seem to be in Mzansi’s good books. Viewers cannot seem to stop singing the production couple’s praises and it is all thanks to their hit telenovela, The Queen.

A handful of their former employees have raised multiple complaints about the couple and their company, mostly for unfair treatment and dismissal.

Dineo Langa, Mlamli Mangcala, Rami Chuene and Vatiswa ndara are some of the victims who claim to have been treated unfairly by the production house.

This led to Mzansi, even The Queen’s avid viewers, to cancelling the couple. However after Friday’s explosive season 4 finale, Mzansi has ‘uncancelled’ The Fergusons.

It was an explosive 1-hour episode and viewers cannot stop commending the show and they cannot wait for season 5 to commence on July 27.

It was an action packed special episode that saw guns blazing. Here are some of the episodes.

Season five of The Queen promises to raise the bar with the introduction of some seriously big names such as Rapulana Seiphemo, Jessica Nkosi, Kenneth Nkosi and Menzi Ngubane.
