Mzansi media personality, Ayanda Thabethe has had one hell of a week. From initially trending over her luxurious trip and the luxury cars she got to sit in. It all turned into a Twitter frenzy when it was first revealed who her mysterious baby daddy is. But it all turned sour as allegations that the former Top Billing personality was dating alleged married man Peter Matsimbe, who she initially revealed as her brother, then friend.

But now it is official, Peter Matsimbe or “PM” as per the official statement has revealed that he is her partner, and that he is not married. This is despite the fact that he has an unanswered ring that he is always wearing.

A look back on how we got here

In January 2022, Ayanda Thabethe owned the Twitter trends when she shared her pregnancy reveal video. Little did we know that she would be opening floodgates of pregnancy reveals. Her video captured the attention of social media users as she did not reveal the identity of her baby daddy, although he featured in the video.

So would be the trend in this sense, as Ayanda would celebrate her gender reveal party in the same manner. In all the videos shared, we were aware that the then mysterious baby daddy was present. But as to the matter of his identity, we knew nothing. But in light of her last famous relationship with Andile Ncube and that she has been a media darling since she was part of Top Billing and the Face of Ponds once upon a time, the public respected her privacy. But that all changed recently.

The rise of the influencer/ slay queen

In May 2022, South Africa’s celebrity culture was rocked when Musa Khawula began to reveal how our faves were actually making “real money.” While gigs and brands bring in revenue, we have since learnt that the wealth is actually from the partners that most influencers date. Partners who more often than not are usually in entanglements, whether it is another girlfriend or most cases “an estranged wife” somewhere waiting for their husband to come back home.

It was during that time the identity of Ayanda Thabethe’s baby daddy was revealed as Peter Matsimbe. While not much was known about him at the time, that would soon change when it was alleged that he was married. A matter which Thabethe countered with a tweet initially. Until recently.

Ayanda Thabethe releases another statement

When Thabethe took to Instagram to share how she was celebrating her “brother” Peter Matsimbe’s birthday, a peek at her phone’s screensaver finally confirmed his identity. It was then a matter of time that Thabethe faced the wrath of tweeps as she was labelled a homewrecker for allegedly dating a married man. But Thabethe was adamant that she was not dating a married man and that she was out with the “boys.”

But in her latest statement where Peter Matsimbe, who is referred to as PM, is confirmed as her partner and not brother anymore. But a fact that they continue to deny is the fact that PM is married or involved with anyone else but his partner, or is it sister? A matter the statement did not address though is why does PM have an affinity of wearing rings only on his wedding finger…
