The memorial and funeral details to bid farewell to Zoleka Mandela, the late granddaughter of Nelson and Winnie Mandela were announced on social media on Wednesday, 27 September.

ZOLEKA MANDELA’S MEMORIAL AND FUNERAL DETAILS UPDATED
43-year-old author, activist, and mother of six, Zoleka Mandela died on Monday morning, 25 September, a statement released by the family spokesperson announced on Tuesday, 26 September. It was said that she had been admitted to the hospital on 18 September to treat her metastatic cancer to the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain, and spinal cord. However, after going for scans, doctors discovered a “significant disease progression” in her lungs and emboli. She passed away on Tuesday surrounded by her family.

Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, 28 September at the Mandela family home and will begin at 15:00. It will also be livestreamed and the link will be made available at a later stage. Her funeral will be held at 09:00 on Friday, 29 September at the Bryanston Methodist Church in Johannesburg. She will have a private burial at an unmentioned location.

Zoleka Mandela suffered a long battle with cancer. She has shared her fight with cancer on social media with her fans and social media followers. In her last Instagram post, she revealed that she had been having chest pains, and after having a CT Scan, blood clots and Fibrosis were discovered in her lungs.

“17.09.2023 – I had a CT Scan administered a few weeks back, which has shown that I have blood clots as well as Fibrosis in my lung. This explains the chest pains I had been feeling. My Medical Oncologist has recommended blood thinners and Oral Chemo. On the upside, I’m incredibly grateful that I am still treatable,” she wrote.
