Zodwa Wabantu’s ex-boyfriend, Vusi Ngubane, and his fiancée Thenjiwe Mpanza opened up about their relationship.

The couple met in Durban in May and Vusi had just broken up with Zodwa.

But he insisted he was not on the rebound and felt genuine love for Thenjiwe, a lawyer.

He told Daily Sun: “I’d already broken up with Zodwa and don’t think I wasted her time in anyway. I regret nothing, in fact we should both be grateful it didn’t last. What is more important is that we both found true love in our current partners.”

Vusi said he was not looking for a relationship when he met Thenjiwe.

“I met her at Spar in Florida Road, Durban. I offered to load her groceries into her car. She wasn’t keen, but I insisted and she agreed.

“I asked for her phone number as she was about to leave and we have been inseparable since. What attracted me to her was her beauty,” said Vusi.

He said he and Thenjiwe have been through hell.

“We had to fight a lot of negativity. I’ had recently dumped Zodwa and there was a lot happening in my life. But my fiancée stood by me and I decided I wanted to marry her,” said Vusi.

The couple had dated for four months when Vusi popped the question.

“When you see a good woman you cannot let her go. Thenjiwe compliments me in every way, she is what I need,” said Vusi.

He paid lobola last month.

“I paid over R80 000 for lobola and I am not complaining. We are planning to do umembeso in March followed by a traditional wedding in June and a white wedding in December,” he said.

Thenjiwe said Vusi had just come out of a messy relationship when they met.

“He was in the process of finding himself. But I’m glad all that baggage is behind us. I was not dating anyone when we met.

“I believe our relationship was written in the stars. He came at the right time as I was concentrating on growing my law firm. The proposal came much quicker, but I’d already made up my mind that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him,” said Thenjiwe.
