Zakes Bantwini honours his late mother, Lala Ngoxolo Ziko who died in 2007 with his Grammy award. The musician has expressed gratitude and honor to different important personalities since he got the award. Taking to Instagram, he shared a photo of himself snapping with his late mom’s tombstone; he placed the award on the stone.

“I did it, Mom,” he captioned the post. The photo got his followers emotional.

“Nothing like a mother’s legacy and manifestation,” his wife, Nandi Madida wrote.

Early this year, Zakes, Wouter Kellerman, and Nomcebo won Best Global Music Performance at the 65th Grammy Award.
