South African singer Lira has chosen to enjoy life despite slow speech recovery after she suffered a stroke.

The singer, whose real name is Lerato Moipone Molapo, suffered a stroke while away for a performance in Germany in April.

Lira recently took to her Instagram page to give her followers an update on her recovery.

“Speech recovery is slow, yet I’m making huge progress. Life carries on, and I’m going to just enjoy my life. All I need is to be patient with the process and I’m going do so living my best life,” she wrote.

Although the stroke affected her speech, the singer said she was still able to sing, sharing a video of herself during rehearsal with the Mzansi Youth Choir in an Instagram post.

“During rehearsal of Return to Me, featuring Mzansi Youth Choir. Speech challenging but I can still sing,” she captioned the video.

The award-winning singer says her healing journey has taught her to “slow down, smell the roses and savour each moment”.

“Five months and still alive and kicking. I’m grateful for the gift of life. I’m making incredible progress and enjoying the much-needed break. One lesson I’ve learnt is to slow down, smell the roses and savour each moment,” she wrote on her Instagram timeline.

She also opened up about a condition call aphasia sharing screen shot with details of the condition she was suffering from six month after the stroke.

“Can you believe it’s been six months. How time flies. The second and third frame is where I used to be at. I am feeling like myself yet I’m still on my recovery journey. It’s going to take some time, but it’s reversible.”
