Seasoned Kenyan journalist , Victoria Rubadiri has reason to smile and celebrate after being awarded the prestigious Komla Dumor Award.
The journalist who has always kept a low profile both in her private and public life did not see this coming as the competition for the award is generally always high each year. Victoria has however always stuck to being professional and passionate about her craft, working hard and tirelessly behind the scenes which has finally paid off.
With her deep investigative style of faces in the political and current affairs spheres ,she was able to stand out, get seen and noticed . She has now become the 6th winner of the highly coveted BBC World News Komla Dumor Award, soon after her colleague Waihiga Mwaura scooped hers in 2018.

She now gets a 3-month placement at the BBC where she will attend a training course with the BBC Academy before becoming part of the BBC News teams. Speaking on the same, a humbled Vicky shared;

”KOMLA WAS A WELL-ROUNDED JOURNALIST WHOSE ABILITY TO GIVE THE FACTS COMPREHENSIVELY, AND YET STILL BE ATTUNED TO HIS AUDIENCE, WAS SOMETHING I ADMIRED AND A SKILL I SEEK TO EMULATE.”

The TV sensation’s eloquence and passion in telling African stories across all media platforms is what made her stand out according to the judges.
