Uzalo actor Masoja Msiza now a singer – Inspires Mzansi men with new song
After taking a bold stand against gender based violence (GBV) through the Uzalo TV commercial, actor Masoja Msiza has composed a song that tackles the issue.
Titled I am a Father, the song, which also features actor and former Uzalo star Xolani Ncobeni, was released yesterday on all digital platforms. The song is a fusion of poetry and a soft Afro-pop sound. The catchy song speaks about the important role that fathers should play.
Msiza, a seasoned poet, explained that the song was inspired by the GBV cases that were being reported daily. In the song he appeals to men to play their role in the society of being protectors and providers. He further outlines responsibilities of a good father, calling on leaders to promote the value of a family to men.
Msiza said he could not wait for the song to hit the digital streets.
“When the idea of the song started I knew that poetry alone will not work on this song. I brought in Xolani to add voice so that the song is catchy. I have realised that fathers are absent in terms of actions in their sons ’ lives. ”
He added: “You see, when women have problems it is easy [for them] to share their pain with others and be comforted. But with men they bottle a lot of pain and frustrations because there are no platforms where they can speak about their pain. We live in modern days where there is lack of family structures which could assist in such situations.”
Ncobeni said: “The song encourages all men to sit down and come up with a way forward on how to stop this [scourge]. We come to this world through women but it is the same men who kill them…”
Msiza, who portrays the role of Nkunzebovu Mhlongo in Uzalo, said the song was a build-up to his Men to Men Conference he is planning for next year.
The conference will feature councillors, spiritual and traditional leaders.
