Ukhozi FM presenter quits show mid air
MILLIONS of Ukhozi FM listeners were left disappointed on Thursday, 10 March.
This after Siyabonga Mhlongo left in the middle of his show without saying goodbye and his colleague, Lee Hlophe, had to stand in for him.
On Friday, 11 March, Siya was not on air and listeners concluded that he got the chop and this was his way of protesting the new changes.
Listeners took to social media to share their thoughts.
Jabulani Mjey wrote: “Ukhozi FM management is repeating the same mistake.
“Why did they move him from that gospel show in the first place?”
“Njabulo Mazibuko wrote: “Did Siya Mhlongo quit because of the coming changes from 1 April? Not so long ago it was Umzokoloko. I see now they don’t even wait for these changes to come to effect.”
But Siya, who hosts the afternoon drive show, 3 2 6, dismissed the speculations.
“I am asthmatic and was feeling sick on Thursday. I had to leave work urgently so I could attend to my health. My absence had nothing to do with the upcoming changes. Listeners will understand we have no say in terms of programming, but the SABC management decides the programmes for us. Therefore all work related queries should be directed to the SABC.”
SABC spokeswoman Gugu Ntuli said: “Ukhozi FM management can confirm that Siyabonga Mhlongo was not well, hence he could not finish his programme. Management can also confirm that Mr’n. Mhlongo remains one of the station’s key team members to deliver on its public service mandate. In terms of new line up for the station, management will communicate accordingly in due course.”
