Thandiswa Mazwai is the eldest of the illustrious Mazwai sisters. Each one of them have made strides in taking up space In the entertainment industry. Singer, Thandiswa Mazwai has won several awards, Ntsiki Mazwai is a vociferous poet while Nomsa Mazwai is a social entrepreneur. Thandiswa recently shared a throwback image of her and her siblings as children and opened up about their challenging childhood.

In the image, she shared how she had the big responsibility of helping raise her younger siblings. “The picture of me and my siblings. This picture always makes me sad because I know what happened to these kids,” she said. “It was my brother’s first birthday and the first anniversary of our mother’s” death. These kids faced such hardship. These kids live with many scars and are still fighting,” she added.

The multi-award-winning singer referred to as King Tha has in the past recalled the day her mother, Belede Mazwai, died at 33 in 1992 died when she was only 16 years old. “I was never the same, but I am thankful for the lessons and the very visceral feeling that God and my ancestors are with me,” she shared. In 2016, Thandiswa dedicated her album titled, Belede, to her mom. In promoting the project, she described her mother as, “A rebel to the core,” she said. “She was super stylish and super smart! Like hella smart! You would never find my mother without a book, pen and paper! Never.
