Tamaryn Green has taken her time to give a breakdown of all the marriage ceremonies they had.
The star tied the knot with her husband, Ze Nxumalo early this year and the two have been enjoying their moments together.
However, the couple has been celebrating one event or the other ever since their proposal.
From engagements, to traditional weddings, to Umabo ceremonies, to the white wedding, and so on.
This has left many confused and now, Tamaryn has taken to her social media to explain what the celebrations were all about.
Tamaryn said she and her husband came from different cultures and they needed to embrace all traditions and rituals.
“As Ze & I come from different cultures, we decided to embrace all traditions and rituals required by both cultures to be married. In western society there is traditionally an engagement, followed by a kitchen tea/bachelorette or bachelors, then finally the white wedding.”
“A traditional Zulu wedding is quite different, but also has distinctive stages. First a proposal happens and once the girl says yes to the guy’s proposal, Lobola negotiations take place. (Slide2&3)
“Once lobola has been paid we celebrate Umembeso (slide 4&5), where the groom’s representatives come in numbers and gifts are given to the bride’s family & the bride herself. The groom’s family is welcomed to the bride’s home. In this case Paarl. This event announces publicly that the groom & the bride are no longer on the market for anyone. ? The wedding date is then set.
“These days both the white & traditional wedding take place over one weekend. The white wedding took place in April when Ze & I were officially married in Stellenbosch (slide 6&7) but the traditional wedding still had to take place and was set for October in Durban, midlands.”
