Police Arrest Five In Connection With Senzo Meyiwa’s Murder

Today marks six years since the brutal murder of Senzo Meyiwa and more details have emerged with regards to the murder of the slain former Orlando Pirates goalie. This follows after police minister Bheki Cele made an announcement today that five suspects have been arrested in connection with his murder.

Police Arrest Five In Connection With Senzo Meyiwa’s Murder

In a press briefing, Cele confirmed that the arrests took place today between 8 am and 10 am, both in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

“I am happy to announce that there has been a breakthrough in the Senzo Meyiwa case,” he said.

“The first five suspects have been arrested between 8 am until 10 am this morning in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal. These arrests are as a result of much disciplinary intervention approach to these investigations which is working closely with the director of public prosecutions.”

Cele said more arrests can still happen. He said the reason why there has been a delay in the arrest of the perpetrators involved in this case is that there were too many leaks to the media.

“The family has been updated all other times but not this time, expect that the Minister will be speaking to the family at around 18:00 tonight. The problem this time has been too many leaks, so we didn’t want to put further confusion to the family as if we are briefing them on leaks, as if we are part of the leaks as the police,” he said.

The arrests come after News24, recently reported that police have made a major breakthrough in the unresolved murder case of the footie. The publication reported that police uncovered a weapon that was used to kill Senzo and the murderer is known.

It further reported that the weapon was found in a safe at the Cleveland Police Station, and the man who pulled the trigger is currently incarcerated as he is allegedly serving a 30-year sentence in the Johannesburg Prison for the murder of taxi boss Reggie Mohlala who was killed with the same gun.

Senzo was murdered in 2014 by intruders who allegedly broke into the home of his then girlfriend songstress Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, apparently with the intention of walking away with the resident’s valuables. It was widely reported that the criminals were attempting to shoot Kelly before Senzo took a fatal bullet for his lover.

The murder of the footballer has been causing pain to his family especially his late father Sam Meyiwa who recently passed on without getting justice for his son.

For six years they’ve been waiting for justice.

It has been six years since Pirates goal keeper Senzo Meyiwa was killed and the family hasn’t been able to get closure.

But finally it seemed there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

News broke that the murder weapon used in the crime was allegedly found and the person linked to the firearm was already in jail, serving a prison term for a different matter.

Would they finally get the closure they’ve been waiting for, the family wondered?

But it seems not. They don’t believe a word of it all.

“It is all lies,” the Meyiwa family says. “They think we are fools, like we can’t think for ourselves. They think because they have money, they can do whatever they please in this world,” Sfiso Meyiwa says.

“What is unsettling is that what is being said is not the truth.”

October is a sensitive time for the Meyiwas because it is the month he was murdered in Vosloorus, where he and then girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo gathered with friends at her mother’s house.

Just two weeks ago, the family had something to smile about when, after six years, Senzo’s tombstone was erected and handed over to the family by the South African Football Association (SAFA).Senzo’s older brother Sfiso says the family have suffered one blow after another. All they want is peace from knowing the person responsible for the murder is rotting in jail.

According to him, it is not the first time that investigators have linked someone who is already in jail to the case.

“It happened earlier in the year too. There is a lot of misleading going on here. “Kanti how many people killed Senzo?” Sfiso asks.

The Meyiwa family believe someone rich and powerful is hiding and protecting the killer. “Senzo was not killed by people who were not in the house, robbers as they say. He was shot by a person who was in the house after an argument started, we all know that. That has always been the truth we know. The money will not get them very far,”he adds.

An emotional Sfiso admits things are hard, especially for elders in the family like his mother. It doesn’t help seeing Senzo’s name drenched up every time there’s a new lead, only for it to fizzle.

“I am a strong believer. I know that God is in control of everything. We know there are investigators on this case who are not shaken and are standing firm on the truth. They have tried to distract them but have failed. In the name of Jesus, those who are trying to hide the truth will not succeed,” Sfiso says.

It’s been six years and two police ministers have made promises to the family that have yet to materialise, they say. Then minister Fikile Mbalula promised the killers would be found.

The current police minister, Bheki Cele, has also promised the family a few times that they are intensifying efforts to close the case.

One day they hope to know the whole truth with the help of the ministry and Afriforum, Sfiso says. Afriforum has been following up on the case.

In the meantime, all they can hope for is peace.

SIX years after former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead at the house of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Ekurhuleni, police have made a breakthrough and arrested five men believed to have been the hitmen.

celedgossip.co.za has learnt that the arrest warrants of the five alleged hitmen, were obtained on Wednesday.

They were signed by advocate Sibongile Mzinyathi, the director of public prosecutions in the Gauteng division of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

“A succinct summary of the facts and reasons for this decision are set out in the attached memorandum by the team that was assigned the matter. The investigating officer will be collecting the docket from this office for purposes of finalising the outstanding investigations, and also facilitating the first appearance of the suspects in court,” read Mzinyathi’s letter, dated October 21, 2020.

The suspects, who are said to be in jail for other crimes already, are expected to appear in court this week on charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and the contravention of firearm laws.

National police spokesperson, Brigadier Vish Naidoo, yesterday said he could not comment. “A lot of damage has been done on this case and, therefore, I can’t make any comment about it,” Naidoo said.

However, Sunday Independent sources said the main suspect who pulled the trigger that ended Meyiwa’s life, was arrested on June 16 this year in Rustenburg, North West. He was a mine worker in Carletonville on the Gauteng West Rand.

The man is said to have admitted to killing Meyiwa to an independent police officer, after his arrest.

The man is said to have confessed that he and his friends were hired to kill Meyiwa on October 18, 2014.

The man told the investigators that they were promised R250000 for the hit, even though they had initially demanded R400000, due to Meyiwa’s high profile status, the sources said.

In his confession, the man is also said to have claimed that he had shot Meyiwa when the soccer star tried to hit him with a chair.

The second suspect was arrested on June 22 at a hotel in Ekurhuleni, East of Johannesburg, after police followed him from Nongoma, KwaZuluNatal. He was allegedly found with an unlicensed firearm. The third suspect, who is also a mine worker, was nabbed last December also in Carletonville.

At the time of the incident, it was claimed that unknown people had entered the (Khumalo) house intending to rob the occupants and made off with cellphones.

The apparent confession of the triggerman has blown the lid on the intricate plot and the identity of the person who commissioned the “hit”.

At the centre of the plot is believed to be money that Meyiwa had allegedly promised someone but never fulfilled. The individual is known to the publication but can’t be named yet as police are continuing with the investigations.

A report seen by the publication further revealed that police also found the gun that was allegedly used to kill Meyiwa in a safe at Cleveland Police Station, in Johannesburg, in July this year – after following a lead.

Sunday Independent understands that police are still investigating whether any of the people who were in the house when Meyiwa was shot, can be charged or linked to his murder.

NPA spokesperson Sipho Ngwema, yesterday couldn’t confirm nor deny that Meyiwa’s alleged killers would appear in court before the end of the week.

He added that the NPA did not issue or execute warrants of arrests.

“The NPA neither issues nor executes warrants. Further, we can only arrange for the appearance of accused persons once there are suspects that have been arrested, charged and need to appear before court,” Ngwema said.

Crucial evidence related to the murder case of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was overlooked, including a tip-off by his father that his son was the victim of a hit.

In 2015, the soccer star’s father, Sam Meyiwa, gave police information about well-known assassins he believed were involved in the murder of his son. The alleged hitmen were from KwaNongoma in KwaZulu-Natal.

City Press can reveal that Meyiwa’s father identified some of the five hitmen who were arrested by police in 2015. Meyiwa was gunned down on October 26 2014 at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s mother’s house in Vosloorus on the East Rand.

Two men allegedly stormed into the house and demanded cellphones and money, while others waited outside.

One of the alleged hitmen, whose name is known to the police, then fatally shot Meyiwa before fleeing the scene.

Insiders with knowledge of the matter believe that the case, which has dragged on for more than six years, would have been solved if the “police had connected the dots”.

This comes after investigations revealed that two of the suspects identified in the Meyiwa murder case were mentioned by his father to police back in 2015.

The two suspects are in prison after being convicted for other murders. Three others are awaiting trial. Another one was gunned down in KwaNongoma in 2016.

Investigations have also revealed that the murder of Meyiwa was a hit, not a botched robbery as was initially believed.

“The information that was given by Senzo’s father to the police was accurate. I know a suspect who is in prison was interviewed in 2015. I don’t know why there were no follow-ups. Justice has been delayed for this family. They need closure,” said a police insider this week.

In August, we revealed that the police had made a breakthrough in the case after they found the weapon that was allegedly used to kill the footballer.

In 2014, police said no cartridges were found at the crime scene because Meyiwa was shot with a revolver. Investigators also revealed that Meyiwa was shot with a 9mm pistol, not a .38 revolver. The ballistic test results confirmed it was the murder weapon. They also identified five men who were allegedly involved in the murder of the soccer star. They all signed warning statements, but were not formally charged.

A docket was submitted to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in August for a decision.

NPA spokesperson Sipho Ngwema said the decision would be made public soon and the details would be included in the announcement.

This week, insiders also said that the NPA would make an announcement soon.

Two of the five men made confessions to a magistrate, claiming the murder of Meyiwa was a hit. The assassins claimed they demanded R400 000 for the hit.

AUDIO RECORDING

In an audio recording that City Press listened to this week, one of the witnesses told the police during an interview that the preparations for the hit were finalised at the Basuthwini Hostel in Vosloorus.

The witness, who cannot be named, recounted how three hitmen locked themselves in a room and had a meeting. He alleged that the trio then left together shortly after the meeting, in a hired car. He said they returned to the hotel 50 minutes later. The witness alleged that the trio returned with two well known contract killers.

“They entered the room and told us they had just murdered Senzo Meyiwa. Everybody in the house was dumbfounded,” the man says in the recording.

He said that was when it occurred to him that, when the trio had locked themselves in a room earlier, they had been discussing a strategy for Meyiwa’s murder. He said the hitmen, who were still armed, joined them for drinks.

“It was clear that they had a lot of money. They bought most of the booze we had that night,” he says in the recording.

The witness said that, a few days later, he asked one of the gunmen where they had got so much money. “He told me that they were paid after they murdered Senzo Meyiwa.”

Regarding another man who was part of the group, the witness said: “I asked him why he was hiding from me where they got the money. He told me that he wanted to keep this a secret because he was scared that I would spill the beans if the police arrested me.”

The man also confirmed to the witness that they were indeed paid to kill Meyiwa.

The witness claimed that one of the hitmen, who was working at a mine, left his job shortly after the murder.

“He had a lot of money,” the witness said.

He told police that he was not sure how much they were paid. “They did not tell us how much they were paid for the hit. They told us some of the group members had short-changed them because one of them bought himself a van.”

The witness also told the police about a dramatic incident a few months after Meyiwa was murdered – he said one of the gunmen shot his girlfriend when she threatened to go to a police station and report him.

The witness said the hitman had confided in her that he was involved in the hit. He said after the shooting the hitman’s family panicked and convened a meeting.

At the meeting, it was decided that they should pay the woman to stop her from reporting the matter to the police. The family members contributed R100 each. They collected R4 500 and handed it to her family.

In another incident, the hitman had an altercation with friends at the Basuthwini Hostel. He angrily fired a shot into the air and told everyone in the room that he murdered Meyiwa.

Again, the family of the hitman contributed money. They paid the people who witnessed the incident R3 000 so that they would not report the matter to the police.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo this week said: “The investigation you are raising questions about is at a very sensitive stage. Any confirmation or denial of your questions could hamper the progress of the investigation.”

The Meyiwa’s family has sensationally claimed there were no robbers involved in the shooting of former Orlando Pirates captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

Senzo Meyiwa’s killer revealed

The former Bafana Bafana captain’s cousin Siyabonga Miya made the claim as he was speaking to Newzroom on Tuesday following reports that the weapon used in the 26 October 2014 murder was found.

There hasn’t been any prosecution since the murder and the police admitted in the past the case is complex to solve.

In a new twist, News24 reported that the man who admitted to having fatally shoot Senzo is serving a 30-year jail term in a Johannesburg prison.
The man is currently incarcerated for killing an Alexandra taxi boss.

The National Police spokesperson Vish Naidoo denied the report saying they do not know anything about the weapon.

“If there is anything on the Meyiwa matter, everyone will be informed, it won’t be anyone’s scoop. The national police are the only ones speaking on the matter,” said Naidoo.

Another report published by the City Press implicated Senzo’s then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo for masterminding the murder. Khumalo denied the allegations and was not arrested in connection to that report.

The current police information indicates that Senzo was at Khumalo’s Vosloorus home with Zandi, their mother Ntombi Khumalo, Twala, Meyiwa’s friends Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala, and Kelly’s then 4-year-old son, Christian, and Thingo, Kelly’s daughter with Senzo when gunmen stormed the house and fatally shot Senzo. Senzo’s family said they only learnt about the discovery of the weapon used in the murder in the media, they haven’t been briefed by the police.

Siya claimed the National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sitole assembled his own investigating team and knew his cousin was shot by one of the occupants of the house but there were no robbers involved.

“The police right now are supposed to be arresting Longwe Twala for killing Senzo. Senzo was shot by Longwe Twala, there was no one who entered the house,” Miya claimed.

He also called for the arrest of Twala and the police bosses for defeating the ends of justice.

Miya also claimed Senzo’s childhood friend Tumelo, who visited Meyiwa on a fateful day made a call saying, “Zandi’s boyfriend has shot Senzo,” as he did not know his name when he notified the Meyiwa family about the death of their son.

Siya also claimed Kelly was heard in the background screaming, ‘kodwa ngizothini ku maka Senzo (what will I say to Senzo’s mom)’.

Senzo Meyiwa‘s family has erected a tombstone on his grave 6 years after his death.

October is normally a painful month for the Meyiwa family
They lost their son in October 14 when he was shot dead at Kelly Khumalo’s house who was his girlfriend at the time.

This year they finally have something to smile about. Today a tombstone was erected for the former Orlando Pirates player.

His brother Sifiso Meyiwa revealed The South African Football Association kept their word and handed the tombstone over to the family in an intimate ceremony on Monday 12 October.
“What will give s peace as a family is seeing his killers go to jail and monies for his children finally sorted out.”

Senzo died in`2014 when he was shot and killed during an alleged robbery.

The footballers father Sam died after years of waiting for justice.
Recently one of the gunman confessed, but the police denied that they made any arrests. Police Minister Bheki Cele however promised there would soon be a positive outcome to the case.

Six years after the death of goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, his family says they are still looking for answers. This is despite widespread reports that a hitman has claimed that Kelly Khumalo was the mastermind behind an alleged murder plot…
Speaking to All4Women, Sifiso Meyiwa, Senzo’s older brother said: “We only became aware of the reports when we saw the papers. No one told us anything.”

He went on to say: “There is nothing much we can say at this time. We’ll be convinced when the matter is in court.”

Senzo Meyiwa was gunned down at the home of his then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in October 2014.
Over the years, authorities have made several assurances that there is progress in the case. Last year, Minister Bheki Cele hoped that the case would be solved by Christmas Day, but it was not to be.

Recent media reports allege that a hitman was nabbed in connection with the goalkeeper’s death. The hitman allegedly claimed that he had been paid by Khumalo to commit the murder. Khumalo would not be drawn to comment on those claims.

A disheartened Sifiso Meyiwa says: “There have always been reports about progress, but nothing ever happens.”

The family is disappointed that after all these years, no one has been officially charged and put on trial.
“Actually, we don’t even like talking about this thing because it brings so much pain,” concluded Meyiwa.

In the meantime, Kelly Khumalo remains at the centre of cyberbullying by some who believe she is not being entirely forthcoming with the truth about the events of the night that Senzo Meyiwa was killed.

Speaking to All4Women last month, Khumalo said that she is able to overcome the blows because her strength comes from her relationship with God.

As for cyberbullies, she said: “Heal. Seriously, heal. Don’t use me as a template of what is not right in your personal life.”

Senzo Meyiwa was gunned down at the home of his then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in October 2014.

It has been 6 years since the death of goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, and his family says they are still looking for answers.

Recently we published a story that a hitmen has claimed that Kelly Khumalo was the mastermind behind an alleged murder plot…

According to the hitmen the plot was hatched at a mall in Johannesburg, and a dispute arose overpayment and that their families in KwaZulu Natal had to call an urgent meeting to decide that the matter be kept a secret.

Khumalo allegedly told the alleged killers that Meyiwa had promised to give her money but defaulted on the promise. he had also agreed to marry her, but was no longer interested in doing so and had not told Khumalo that he had a wife. In the confession, the alleged hitmen claim that they demanded R400 000 for the job due to Meyiwa’s status.

They further claimed that Khumalo negotiated for the price to come down and said she only had R250 000 upfront and the balance to be paid within two months of the job being completed. After the meeting, the hitmen visited a well-known sangoma whom they asked to perform a ritual so that the hit would be successful. The healer confirmed these claims and also mentioned how the hitmen asked him for muthi that would give them the courage when they faced Meyiwa.

Speaking to All4Women, Sifiso Meyiwa, Senzo’s older brother said: “We only became aware of the reports when we saw the papers. No one told us anything.”

He went on to say: “There is nothing much we can say at this time. We’ll be convinced when the matter is in court.”

A crack team of investigators appointed by Police Minister Bheki Cele took eight months to wrap up investigations that had been stalled for years.

“We have a watertight case. We’ve managed to track down a firearm that was used to kill Senzo. The ballistic test results have positively linked the suspects to the murder, which we’ve established was premeditated,” said an insider.

Kelly Khumalo however denied these claims.

Senzo Meyiwa’s family speaks out after hitman confession, reveals all the truth

Speaking on behalf of his family in a recent exclusive interview with All4Women, Sifiso Meyiwa, older brother to the late Senzo Meyiwa has revealed that the family found out about the shocking claims made by the hitman allegedly hired to kill Senzo like everyone else – by reading about it in the paper.

This comes after an explosive City Press report published at the weekend in which a hitman claimed that Kelly Khumalo was the mastermind behind an alleged murder plot to snuff out Senzo.

“We only became aware of the reports when we saw the papers. No one told us anything,” Sifiso told All4Women before adding: “There is nothing much we can say at this time. We’ll be convinced when the matter is in court.”

He further expressed his family’s disappointment a the lack of progress in his brother’s case in the six years since it happened. This despite some very clear and public promises from the police, including Police Minister Bheki Cele who gave a Christmas Day 2019 deadline for the case to be solved.

“Actually, we don’t even like talking about this thing because it brings so much pain,” said Sifiso.

Apart from her original response to City Press when initially contacted for comment, Khumalo has yet to publicly respond to the allegations levelled against her despite attempts to reach her for comment.

“Thank you for informing me. All the best with your story,” said Khumalo.

Life on her social media channels has continued uninterrupted as she only engages and reposts messages about her music and her reality show, Life With Kelly Khumalo, which has become a smash hit among fans for its honest and refreshing look into her life.

On the show, she even reflects on her therapy sessions relating to Senzo’s 2014 murder and how she had dealt with being vilified for the murder over the years.

The full season of Life With Kelly Khumalo is currently available on ShowMax.

All4Women requested comment from the SAPS regarding the hitman claims as well as to get an update on the status of the investigation. A4W has not received a response and the article will be updated accordingly as soon as they have comment from police.

BREAKING! Senzo Meyiwa killers confess to murder – We were hired by Kelly Khumalo to kill him

A man who allegedly took part in the slaying of former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa has implicated his baby mama singer Kelly Khumalo in the murder.

In a confession made before a magistrate in June, six years after Senzo Meyiwa’s death, one of the alleged gunmen claimed the plot was hatched at a mall in Johannesburg, that a dispute arose overpayment and that their families in KwaZulu Nata had to call an urgent meeting to decide that the matter be kept a secret.

Sources close to the investigations say there is now overwhelming evidence that will finally close the case.

According to City Press, investigators have submitted the docket to prosecutors to obtain warrants of arrests for all implicated in the murder.

News also emerged how the police received two confessions from two men who said they were part of the plot to kill Meyiwa.

However, no arrest has been made yet. The five alleged hitmen are currently serving time or awaiting trial for unrelated crimes. The NPA has yet to make a final decision One of the alleged gunmen has told a magistrate in Boksburg that Kelly Khumalo, who was Senzo Meyiwa’s girlfriend at the time, allegedly hired them to kill Meyiwa. Something which Khumalo has always denied.

According to a confession and a detailed report dated 30 June 2020, Khumalo allegedly told the alleged killers that Meyiwa had promised to give her money but defaulted on the promise. he had also agreed to marry her, but was no longer interested in doing so and had not Khumalo that he had a wife. celebgossip.co.za has learnt that soon after the hitmen managed to kill Senzo Meyiwa, Kelly Khumalo is alleged to have changed her tune, saying that she could not afford to pay R250 000 as was initially agreed

When contacted for comment, Kelly Khumalo said: “Thank you for informing me. All the best with your story”
