Fans on social media were recently shocked to learn that Lady Zamar is actually Malawian. Yamikani Janet Banda, known professionally as Lady Zamar is a South African singer and songwriter born in 1987 to a Malawian father and a South African mother and was raised in Mamelodi.

Lady Zamar has won the hearts of many South African and international fans with her certifiably platinum songs such as Charlotte and has walked away with SAMA Awards and DSTV Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards.

Like many South African women, Zamar was distraught after learning that her case won’t be going to trial. The musician accused her ex-boyfriend; Sjava of raping her while they were doing a show in Thohoyandou; Limpopo three years ago.

The Sjava and Lady Zamar’s rape case was thrown out two weeks ago as the court ruled that there was no evidence to pin the award-winning musician to rape. Limpopo police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that the case against Sjava was declined for prosecution two weeks ago.

The case is officially dismissed and Lady Zamar has been trending on social media since the news broke yesterday. Fans of Sjava are requesting that Lady Zamar be sued for defamation of character and damages to his career. Because of the pending rape case; Sjava lost out on two nominations, his shows got cancelled and he lost TV acting gigs because of the rape charges.

While this outcome is great news for Sjava and his fans, it’s also a step back for rape victims and #GBV victims in South Africa. Women who are raped will need to have concrete evidence before accusing anyone or speaking out about their ordeal.

Fans of Sjava also want to know if Zamar will be jailed for “falsely accusing” the musician as it’s a case of ‘he said’ and ‘she said’ for now.

Thabang Litsaone is desperately trying to get in touch with Lady Zamar after she allegedly failed to pay him. He has accused the singer of ghosting him after she failed to pay him R52 542 as per a court judgment.

Thabang from Olievenhoutbosch, Tshwane, said he was Lady Zamar’s driver from November 2018 to April last year.

He said things were fine until the singer, whose real name is Yamikani Banda, was supposed to pay him.

“Trouble started when she asked to use my car together with her manager.

She told me they’d pay me for renting it. When they brought it back, the windscreen had cracks and the back seat was damaged,” he said.

Thabang said a white VW Transporter T6.1 2017 was also damaged.

But he continued driving her around because he thought she’d pay him for the damages.

“When I called her to ask for my money, she told me she needed to pay other people and would pay me once she was done,” he said.

“This went on for months until my wife decided to contact her, but Lady Zamar ended up blocking her and said she won’t pay me.”

Thabang said he approached the sheriff of the court and Lady Zamar was ordered to pay him R31 400 with 10% interest.

“She has moved house and no longer takes my calls. I want my money. I need to pay people who helped me fix my car.”

Lady Zamar’s manager, Micheal Lebuse, said they’d not comment on the matter because it was still in court.

As a person struggling with acne, Lady Zamar has also been subjected to body shaming from trolls, specifically Babes Wodumo. The musician has also committed to losing weight as she has shared her progress on social media and in no time she will have achieved her ideal weight. However, she has taken some time to call out body-shaming saying people are just battling their own insecurities.

Body shaming has become a sensitive issue and has been addressed by our stars frequently. The Collide hitmaker has called out body shamers on Twitter saying they do not love themselves, hence they project their insecurities on other people.

Lady Zamar – Body shamers have issues they have not dealt with themselves

Body shamers usually have body issues they haven’t dealt with themselves. I always feel sorry for people who bully others.. it’s sad seeing how many people lack self love,” she tweeted.

Lady Zamar then preached for more love and people to accept each other more, “Pray for anyone who hurts you or says terrible things to you, they’re just projecting they’re own weaknesses onto you.”

“Change your perspective…defensive responses are in themselves reflectors of your insecurities. You learn to feel empathy and sympathy for anyone with darkness in them. Pray for love, peace and understanding.”

Zamar has been bullied countless times on social media however, the moment which raised eyebrows for everybody was the name calling from Babes Wodumo. A viral video circulated in 2019, where Babes can be heard mocking the Collide hitmaker of having acne and further calls her “Sfe” which is Zulu for “bch”.

Like she always does, Zamar maintained a dignified silence throughout the whole saga until she spoke to Drum magazine about her pain, embarrassment and even anger over the drama that has played out in the media.
I didn’t even know the meaning of the names she called me, but I eventually learned that one of them is a b***h who goes around sleeping with different men to the point where her vagina is worn out! And I was horrified, how could she be so cruel, to invest so much time and effort just to be just a mean person? I couldn’t believe it.”

Lady Zamar claims she was hurt by Babes’s denial which saw her claiming she was hacked and going as far as to completely deny any involvement in the video!

“She not only disrespected me, but fans as well, and you just don’t do that – you’re undermining so many people, that’s just wrong. When you’re sure about what you want and who you are, there will be a lot of hatred.. Mostly born of jealousy/envy and some just pure evil. But keep on being you, keep being unique and absolutely beautiful,” she concluded.

Lady Zamar previously revealed her first acne breakout was at the age 9 – claims her skin issues have affected relationships, friendships, and even her engagement on social media. In a statement from over a year ago, the songbird stated, “The first thing that goes is your self-esteem. People expect me to be perfect, but the fact is I’m not.

I’m going through the roughest period of my life with this acne,” she said. She had also claimed to have sought treatment from professionals and shared a message of hope with her fans. She defiantly added; “I’m never going to hide who I am; no matter what people say. It’s not the end of the world for me.”

The singer has been taunted on social media for her skin and in 2019, Lady Zamar hit back at fellow singer Babes Wodumo who shamed the Idols SA guest judge for having acne. The viral video caused outrage in Mzansi and led to calls to boycott Babes.

Although Lady Zamar revealed she was deeply hurt by the clip, she claimed she did not need an apology from the gqom singer. She told Drum magazine; “What she said might’ve hurt me, but it doesn’t define me, we get up and do better things, choose to be better people. “If more people cared about being good people, the world would be such a better place.”

Has she moved on? Lady Zamar: "Love Is Beautiful "

It is no secret that Sjava and Lady Zamar abuse saga, has become a hot topic lately and it has left many divided.

In March Sunday World published an article that Lady Zamar had opened a case of rape against Sjava for allegedly raping her in 2017. The incident allegedly in a hotel in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, after a show.

The rape allegations left their fans divided with some slamming Lady Zamar by saying she wants to ruin Sjava’s reputation. The musician was recently announced as the newest addition on Uzalo but due to his rape allegations, the show was forced to let him go.

The allegations has since a number of gigs removing him from their lineup. In a video he posted recently Sjava refuted the allegations “The reason for doing this video is because I want to clear the air on the ongoing rumours and speculations with everything going on in my life. The reason I have been silent was because we are not allowed to speak about it as it is an ongoing case.”

Sjava also denied claims that he has a child and that Lady Zamar did not knew that he had someone in his life.

“When we started dating in 2017 I told her I have a girlfriend and she understood that so we continued our relationship. However as time went on she changed and gave me an ultimatum to chose between her and my girlfriend. In our relationship a lot happened that left her unhappy as I was well invested in my music and neglecting her in the process,” he opened up.

Weighing in on his video Zamar still maintained that Sjava raped her. The songtress detailed how the incident transpired in a live video on Instagram, which also left many divided .

Lady Zamar responds after worst comments she received while explaining how Sjava raped her

Lady Zamar might have started off being business-as-usual when she returned to social media, but the musician quickly found her clap backs following continued backlash from tweeps.

The “Monarch” creator went on Twitter on Saturday, 29 August 2020, and wasted no time going to the usual subs directed at trolls. Why you may ask? Here is a quick rundown at what went down in the never-ending saga between “exes,” depending on who you ask, Sjava and Lady Zamar.

Sjava releases a statement finally sharing his side of the story of the problematic and tumultuous relationship between him and Lady Zamar on Wednesday, 26 August 2020. The move might have been to seek the endorsement of the public as he was scheduled to release his first project under his newly created record and management company, 1020 Cartel. Or it could have been to finally set him free by bearing it all. Who knows?

But Lady Zamar then followed his viral confessional video, with her own surprise confessional on Thursday, 27 August 2020. Her video might have been to make sure that whatever sympathy he ended with his video was derailed by her surprise and since deleted Instagram live video. Or, the star could have just wanted to set the record straight. Again, who knows?

The one certainty about her alleged video that many did agree on is that the video did provide room for more questions than resolutions. So it is no surprise that when she did come back to Twitter tweeps were ready to troll with hashtags like, I Stand With Sjava, and “Asika Khlowa,” loosely translated meaning that “we have not forgotten” about her alleged s.e.xual assault, rape, and emotional abuse allegations.

So after maintaining a professional stance which focused on endorsing positive posts about her, it seems that Lady Zamar finally snapped as he went back to her old Twitter ways. Sis’ started throwing subs which were directed at trolls calling her a liar. While she did not name names, or explicitly go into what tweets like “Answer to only what builds you,” could be referring too. Many tweeps understood the shade gave it back with just as much shade it was directed them with.

Lady Zamar has since tried to get back to spreading love and positivity with her tweets from Sunday, 30 August 2020. But trolls have managed to continue dragging her and making sure she does not forget her situation-ship with Sjava.

This was in response to a video posted by her ex-boyfriend and fellow musician Sjava (Jabulani Hadebe) in which he denied the rape allegations previously levelled against him by Lady Zamar.

A day later, Lady Zamar took to Twitter to announce that she was “tired of all the lies” and added that she would be going live to address the matter.

However, people have since been left horrified by the verbal abuse she was subjected to in the form of vile comments posted on the live stream, mostly by women.

Some of the worst responses were even screenshotted and shared on Twitter

In November 2019, Lady Zamar laid a case of rape against Sjava, a fact which was only made public in March this year.

She alleged she was raped by the accused after the two performed at the Royal Heritage Festival in Limpopo in 2017.

Sjava first responded by sending her a letter of demand in November after she repeated the accusation after one of his shows on October 27, 2019. He then laid a defamation charge in response to her opening a rape case.

After the world was introduced to his “wife” during one of his shows, Zamar took to Twitter and said: “Your precious Zulu man is a liar and a cheater. Cheers to every person that didn’t believe me when I told them that that nigga’s married.”

In his 12-minute video statement, Sjava also denied the allegation that he is married. You can hear him speak on this as the 2:48 mark.

Watch: How Sjava raped me – Heartbroken Lady Zamar reveals all

Lady Zamar just went live on her Instagram account to speak about her alleged rape ordeal by her then boyfriend and fellow artist Sjava.

Sjava had earlier today released a video claiming his innocence and that he was being punished and pronounced guilty without trial resulting in loss of income and gigs.

In her live feed this evening, Lady Zamar said before the alleged rape, there was no romantic relationship between them. She claims they were simply getting to know each other and there was not even a whisper of sex.

She said she had a breast reduction done in July 2017 and was told by her doctor that she wasn’t allowed to have intimate relations for at least six weeks.

Sjava, claimed in the video today, that he had embarrassed Zamar at an event at the Sun Arena, in August that year, by announcing he was in another relationship, and was sorry for that.

But Lady Zamar said at the event, she was medicated with pain killers and still bandaged when the musician invited her to his room.

“The relationship was a getting to know you type of situation. I don’t know what he told his friends and family. There were no sexual conversations. He had never seen me naked before. We were chilling at the event. Fast forward to around morning, that morning we were making out. Just kissing. We had never been alone together to that extent. I went to his hotel room because it was day time. He starts taking off my clothes. And he raped me. I couldn’t fight, I was in stitches. I was bleeding. I hated him. At that moment I was afraid of him. The thought of him terrifies me. That day he got me to go back to his place. We ended up breaking up….Most confusing thing. Am I with this person or not? I had never been violated before. I didn’t know how to feel about this thing,” she said.

She said she was exhausted from having to defend herself.

“He said I came up with the rape claims. I didn’t come up with it because I have more to lose as a black woman. I got text messages from him. I blocked out the incident. No woman on the planet knows how to contextualise rape,” she said.

She said she had stopped eating and developed acne but told her friends that she thought the op had messed up her hormones – she has still not registered that the incident had taken a psychological toll on her.

“I got text messages from him. I blocked out the incident. No woman on the planet knows how to contextualise rape. I didn’t accept it myself. We hardly had a real relationship. I believed him when he says he treats me badly and he is sorry. He would say to people, men don’t date women who are abused.

“I said to him ‘you abuse me’. He said to me I was lucky cos I don’t know what abuse is,” she said.

She said that in July 2018 she told him that she couldn’t live in fear and be treated like rubbish.

“There was a recording released….that went around. That recording was taken in 2018 August. We were not together at the time – he was using my vocals on his tracks and I told him not to, I sent him a letter. There were pics of us wearing white, I had a Christmas party in January 2019. He was accusing me of having a relationship with a musician signed to Universal, I found out later it was his friend. He said – ‘if you’re not with me it means you are sleeping with that guy.’ He asked the photographer to take the pics of us but we were not together. I still had not come to terms with the fact that he raped me,” she aaid.

Lady Zamar said he called her to explain pictures of him with someone else at the Durban July.

“He said he wants to talk. I thought he wants to talk and apologise. He took me to some producer’s house. He said to me verbatim he doesn’t care what I have to say…He literally said to me when he was dropping me back home. I realised that day he had malicious intent. He said to me I was lucky that he isn’t one of those men who would beat up a woman and leave her on the street. I couldn’t believe it.”

She went on to say that he resorted to stalking measures and knew when she didn’t attend planned gigs and even when she was at the mall.

“The case is pending, the justice system may not be perfect but I have faith. More often than not you are hurt by people you know. My body is mine. My boyfriend at the time, said to me If I don’t get this out I will never heal. I am healed. I am living my life. I am not trying to intentionally ruin his life. The truth will never stop being the truth. What I do know is that Jabulani raped me. I couldn’t fight him, he is huge. I said no . I was bandaged and stuffed with pain killers. I won’t have somebody lie about me. He lied about me for years and I kept quiet. …I am at a place where I am able to speak about it. Strength to every woman fighting this battle. Rape is not an easy thing to bear on your soul, but it doesn’t define me.
