Her father Freddy Mokoena found her deceased in her daughter’s room. Apparently, when the police officer arrived, he found Busi’s body bruised on her legs and her mouth was slightly open with blood coming out.

The source said this to the publication: “If she died of natural causes, then why did she have bruises on her legs and why was blood coming out of her mouth when her father found her lying down in her bedroom? Something is amiss here. We can’t wait to see what the autopsy report says.

The source also told the paper that Busi did not have any enemies and hope the police would do a thorough job in finding what exactly caused her death.

“She did not have enemies; she was always a jolly person who was loved by the entire universe. If someone harmed her, that will be so shocking because she would never provoke or hurt anyone. The police should do a thorough job here, we need answers. They know what we are talking about.

The funeral service for celebrated actress Busisiwe Lurayi was held today at the Redemption Church in Greenstone, Johannesburg. Family, friends industry mates all gathered to give the actress a proper sendoff.

Busi Lurayi, known for her amazing acting skills on Ses’Top la and How To Ruin Christmas, was laid to rest at the Mooifontein Cemetery in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

Speaking at the funeral service, her father Freddie Mokoena gave a lengthy eulogy which he said was addressed to his daughter, Busi.

“I’m actually not going to be speaking to you. But I’ll be speaking to uBusisiwe. I’m sure a number of you will know that if you talk to Busi, you’ve got to make time. We’ve got time, Busi, later on, me and you. I will talk and I know you will be listening. You’ll give me the strength… I’m weak but I’m not going to fall. I’ll stand for you,” said the heartbroken father.

“I would like to thank uGogo Lurayi, who gave me the opportunity to take uBusi from them, to spend some time and begin to read the play or what you guys would call a book that she started writing when she was young,” he said, referencing her fruitful life. “I’m not talking about the book that one can read, put on a shelf and read sometime later. But I’m talking about the life that she so openly led,” he explained.

Mokoena spoke about the sadness of burying your child instead of it being the other way round.

“I’ve had people say, ‘I want my child to bury me’, and I never understood it, until today… but God has decided on his plan. We plan things, God plans the other way. I’m telling you life sucks. But unfortunately, it’s got its match, Busi is not going to take it lying down. The fact that they have taken her away from me, she will come back.”

He then spoke about the time he found her laying down and how she used to sing a song, ‘It’s Crying Time Again.’

“I’m sure a number of you would remember, she used to sing, ‘It’s Crying Time Again’. I don’t know why she sang that song. On that day when I saw her lying down, I then realized, it was the time that she used to talk about, ‘It’s crying time again’. And I hate that I had to see my daughter lying down and I couldn’t do anything,” he added.

Mokoena comforted her grandmother saying she is at peace, “I know, she’s at peace. She’s at peace with whatever happened that day, we will soon find out. The diva is not gone. The diva is with us. The diva will forever be my heart. The diva will forever be with Ayana. Gogo Lurayi, Gogo Mokoena, she is not gone. She is with us. She will remain with us,” he closed off.

Late Mzansi actress and comedienne Busisiwe Lurayi whose sudden passing shocked many last Sunday is set to join etv’s biggest soapie Scandal. In spite of the actress’s death earlier this week, she’ll make an appearance on Scandal next week. After a brief illness that prevented her from attending to her work commitments last week, Busisiwe was found dead in her daughter’s bedroom by her father.

Trusted local entertainment commentator Phil Mphela broke this casting news last night on Twitter following the actress’s passing. “Busi Lurayi joined Scandal. The late actress was cast and had shot scenes for the etv soapie before her untimely demise,” read Mphela’s announcement. It continued to read, “[There’s] No word yet from production and channel on how they will move forward with the role.” Phil also promised online users for more updates as he receives them.

Apparently, this was one of two of Busi’s latest roles and television gigs according to her close friend and manager Brian Makau. According to Makau, who is also the president of Eye Media Artists agency, he and Busi recently celebrated two roles that she had landed, but he had no idea that would be their last conversation.

“She was like a sister. We bought flowers for each other all the time. There were moments I was upset with her, and moments where I was over the moon with her, and Thursday was one of those days, but she said she wasn’t feeling well,” Brian told Tshisa Live.

She sang her praises for being an amazing mother to her daughter Ayana. “As a mother, she was a mama bear. She installed so much etiquette into Ayana. She brought her to my place many times and she was like a little mini Busi. She was so hands-on with her.”

“Busi told me she gave the industry everything she could. When she would go for a casting she would always get the role. She wouldn’t go to a casting she didn’t believe in. Every nomination she got in the SAFTAs she won. She was very sentimental about the projects she got involved in. She would say no to a lot of things. She knew what she was capable of. She presented an incredible performance all the time. She knew what challenged her and she went for those roles. Her performances were electrifying. She always performed as if it was her last,”

Many industry colleagues continue to flood social media timelines with condolence messages for Lurayi, these include actor and television producer Mandla N, radio broadcaster and actress Thando Thabethe, fashion designer Thula Sindi, and Thembisa Mdoda to mention a few.

The family of the SAFTA Award-winning actress is yet to announce the dates of the memorial service and funeral for Busi, for now, the family has requested that fans grant them privacy during their time of grieving. “We humbly request that you allow us as family to come to terms with this tragic news. We thank you for your support that has been given so far and will provide further information as soon as it has been made available.”

Mzansi top actress and singer Busi Lurayi has passed away. The SAFTA-winning actress was known for her role as Phumzile on the popular SABC sitcom ‘City Ses’la and later on ‘Ses’Top La’. She was recently on the cast of the Netflix original ‘How to Ruin Christmas’.

Her family confirmed the news in a media statement, stating that the actress passed away on Sunday the 10th of July 2022 at her home.

The statement further states that “The reason for her death is still unknown as we await the results of the autopsy report”

The family stated that they will be providing further information as soon as it has been made available.
Last year, she told the publication that she was over the moon when it got the green light for a second season of How to Ruin Christmas, just weeks after its premiere.

“It was an affirmation that we did it.

She further said: “We came in, we were authentic and true to ourselves and if they want a second season, it was purely because we have done well. But above all, I was excited to find out what is the continuation and what story are we going to tell further,” she said.

The actress said people are going to love her character Tumi in this new season, and she’s going to reflect who they are.

“Her character is beautifully written. She’s authentic and very relatable, hence I am saying a lot of people are going to see themselves in her, one way or another. She will also make people realise the idea of a black sheep of the family is not a real thing, it is there because we fail to dig deep to understand people,” she said during a previous interview.

Busi, who plays the lead character of the series produced by Burnt Onion Productions, said her favourite moments on set are when she has to let go of the script and be on the floor and bring her character to life.

Although her career in the acting industry spans decades and she’s been part of shows such as Generations, Busi said she believes she’s still on a journey to the top.

“I wouldn’t say I have found my success, but I attribute what I have achieved so far to myself to putting an extra effort in my work.

“What people don’t understand about this industry is it is possibly one of the hardest and I always equate it to a surgeon, you always have to work,” said the actress.
