Generations: The Legacy actress Letoya Makhene is officially a married woman.

The actress sealed her union with her partner Lebohang Keswa at her home in Tladi, Soweto, on Tuesday.

The couple wasted no time, as they decided to seal their union officially within 10 months of meeting each other.

The wedding festivities started with a traditional dancing ceremony, led by popular traditional healer Alfie ‘Majabula’ Mahlangabeza of Umndeni fame, to introduce the couple to each other’s ancestors and unite them.

Makhene and her blushing bride Keswa danced for guests after the traditional ceremony. Makhene blessed her in-laws with gifts she had picked out herself, and Keswa also gave her new in-laws gifts.

Keswa wore a traditional white two-piece, accessorised with a Basotho blanket over her shoulder, while Makhene sported blue shweshwe traditional attire with a long cape.

Two weeks ago Letoya and her businesswoman partner Keswa had sent out private invitations to their guests for the one-day wedding celebration.

Letoya Makhene reveals she was hospitalised. Although she did not give a clear reason why she was hospitalised, she made it known that she did not listen to her body and it got to a point her body couldn’t carry her anymore.

The Generations star posts a string of pictures of her family with her in hospital and writes a caption. “Our bodies talk to us. We either choose to listen or not. I pushed myself to the max until my body couldn’t carry me anymore. I’m alive. I’m well and out of the hospital,” she posts.

With the wedding around the corner, Letoya has a lot on her plate. Her acting career is already demanding and she is personally hand-picking wedding gifts for her in-laws. In a bid to meet their expectations, the actress intends to buy each one of them double-ply mink blankets.

Tshidi from Generations says yes to her wife to be Lebo Keswa on the 17th of November this year in style. Subsequent to a romantic hot air balloon ride, a big banner written, “Will you marry me,” sends Letoya into ecstasy to which she immediately says yes.

In a video by Daily Sun at the couple’s engagement, Letoya has this to say. “We have our ups and ups and downs because that’s what every relationship has. What I like is that our love conquers all.” The duo is finally tying the knot and defying societal norms. While most cringe at the thought of homosexuality, the Generations star is not one to shy away from the camera when it comes to her love life.

She also mentioned she is out of the hospital as she shared snaps of herself and her family while she was still hospitalised.

The celebrity couple confirmed to Sunday World that Keswa and her family representatives visited Makhene’s household in Tladi, Soweto, to pay the bridal price yesterday. The two had an engagement ceremony on October 17.

Keswa said that she was ecstatic to finally pay off lobola for the Ithonga Lami hitmaker and learn the sangomas’ tradition in running the lobola negotiations.

In an exclusive joint statement that Sunday World has seen, the lovebirds said they were overwhelmed with joy to finally have their families and spirits joined as one.

“When you lobola a woman you’re paying respect to her parents and family and thanking them for your future wife. Ukulobola idlozi is paying respect to the ancestors for the gift of the person that is in your life.

“In ancient times, sangomas lived and died without a partner in their lives. Over time, they evolved and fell in love, and this process helps smooth out what could be a very complicated relationship.

“It allows your ancestors to understand and give space to the person that is in your life and it allows a sangoma to have a healthy and peaceful relationship,” said the couple.

Makhene said she was grateful to be a resident in a country that allows same-sex marriages because many people of the pride community never had a chance to enjoy their union.

“We’ve come very far and I am grateful that I live in a time where I can celebrate my love for my partner in this way. As I settle down with my lifetime partner, I will always remember those who fought so hard for me to be able to be where I am today.

“People will always have something to talk about, whether you do good or bad. The important thing about life is to live it for you. We only have one life and what you do with it and how you choose to live it is up to you.
