Veteran Skeem Saam actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, who plays the character of Koko Mantsha showed off her dancing skills at Morgan Mohlala’s birthday party in 2023.

A video of the 83-year-old actress, who is popularly known for her role as Koko Mantsha was shared by her Skeem Saam co-star Molobane Maja, who portrays the role of Ivy Kgomo in the SABC1 soapie.

Maja shared the video on her TikTok when the duo attended Limpopo businessman Morgan Mohlala’s 50th birthday party in 2023.

In the video which has been viewed over 5 million times, Mokgokoloshi and Maja are seen dancing to wedding singer, Pleasure’s song Ke Lorile alongside musician and reality TV star Papa Penny.

Viewers of the educational soapie were thrilled to see the legendary actress, who hasn’t appeared in the SABC1 soapie since 2020, where she plays the role of Katlego Peterson’s grandmother.

Sowetan reported in July 2020 that the legendary actress has taken a break from acting after playing Koko Mantsha since the soapie’s inception in 2011.

The educational soapie revealed to the publication that Mokgokoloshi is still part of the show on a recurring basis, although viewers will see less of her on screen.

Skeem Saam has disputed claims that its actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, who plays the character of Koko Mantsha is dead.

This comes after a publication @SSiTVSA reported on Friday, 9 June that the award-winning actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, who plays the character of Koko Mantsha in Skeem Saam passed away,

@SSiTVSA shared an article on Twitter and reported: “R.I.P Veteran actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi is best known for her roles in Sepedi drama Bophelo ke Semphekgo and SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam as Koko.”

@SkeemSaam3 replied: “Hi. Please remove this. This is NOT true.”

The actress took a break from the soapie in 2020, where she plays the role of Katlego Peterson’s grandmother Koko Mantsha.

Sowetan reported in July 2020 that the legendary actress has taken a break from acting after playing Koko Mantsha since the soapie’s inception in 2011.

The educational soapie revealed to the publication that Mokgokoloshi is still part of the show on a recurring basis, although viewers will see less of her on screen.

The soapie’s spokesperson Sumanya Mogola said: “She will still be in and out of the story. She just won’t be shooting as much as she used to. Our shooting schedule gets really hectic at times and we don’t want to wear her out. She is at a very sensitive age so she needs as much rest, care, and comfort as possible.”

This is the second time the Skeem Saam actress Lydia Mokgokolosi falls victim to a death hoax. as a fake and unverified SABC 1 Facebook page also wished her dead in 2021.

The fake news spread like wildfire on Twitter as well, with fans sending condolences and heartfelt messages thinking that Mantsha is dead.

The soapie also rubbished the death hioax reports in 2021 on their Twitter account and said: “Beware of fake news. Granny is alive and well.”

Actress Makgofe Moagi, who plays her daughter Charity Ramabu on the show also stated on Twitter in July 2021: “She’s very much alive! Please stop spreading rumours.. don’t write about unverified passing of people just for clout! I spoke to her 20 mins ago and the first thing she asks me is “o kwele?”

Fans of the actress were let out a breath of relief when the soapie confirmed she is still alive after she fell victim to death hoax in July 2021.

A Facebook post claiming that legendary actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi popularly known as Koko Mantsha on Skeem Saam has died is FALSE. The post has caused a lot of unnecessary panic on social media.

Entertainment Commentator Phil Mphela has rubbished the reports. He confirmed that the Skeem Saam actress is alive.

He tweeted: “Tweets and reports that Mme Lydia Mokgokoloshi has passed are FALSE. Nkoko Mantsha, as she is affectionately known to Skeem Saam fans, is alive. The FB page reporting this is NOT an SABC creates page.”

Responding to Phil’s tweet, Tebogo made people aware that spreading such malicious lies can land them in jail.

“People are spreading fake news, and spreading fake news is a criminal offense that can land you in jail. The SABC hasn’t announced anything yet about her passing.”

Another celebrity who recently became a victim of a death hoax is actress Masasa Mbangeni. The former Scandal star took to Twitter to rubbish the reports after a Facebook post claimed that she died from COVID.

She said the false news about her passing scared her mother.

“Got a frantic call from my mother who said she was woken up from sleep from a call from a colleague saying that in Facebook they say I’m dead from Covid because of this tweet. People don’t read for comprehension neh, now my mother must get a fright because of stupidity ugh,” she tweeted.

The actress had tested positive for COVID-19. She said it took a while for her to recover but now she is okay.

“I pray God keeps me till I get my vaccine. I’m so scared of this thing. I really got it quite bad when I had it, thank goodness I recovered at home but it took a while yhuuu,” she wrote.
Masasa recently lost a loved one due to COVID-19, taking to Twitter to open up about the sad news of her cousin’s passing, she said: “A cousin lost his battle with Covid this morning. Hayi guys andazi mna anymore”
